Fantasy Tip: Tillman ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) has been a little bit better at home (3.72 ERA) in his career than on the road (4.28 ERA). In 14 career starts against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Orioles' opening day foe, Tillman has a 4.08 ERA and 4-6 record. Consider him a midrange option for FantasyScore lineups on April 6.

Fantasy Tip: With Hardy on the shelf, and likely to start the season on the 15-day disabled list, it is Everth Cabrera ($3,000; 6.0% of cap) who is likely to see a majority of the starts in the early going of the regular season.

Baltimore Orioles SS Everth Cabrera and 2B Ryan Flaherty are options to play the 6 with SS J.J. Hardy (shoulder) expected to start the season on the disabled list. Hardy was diagnosed with a subscapularis strain, a muscle under the shoulder blade, and he won't do any baseball activities for 10 days. Hardy would be eligible to play April 11, but he won't be ready on that date.
Fantasy Tip: Hardy ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) should be ignored for much of the first month of the season at FantasyScore. Cabrera ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is an intriguing stolen base asset for a cheap cost in daily games to open 2015. He should be owned in AL-only leagues if he's not already, and he could be worth a stab as a late-round flier in deep mixed leagues for some stolen bases out of the gates.

Fantasy Tip: Hardy ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) should be avoided in FantasyScore contests early in the season, and Everth Cabrera ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) stands to see the majority of starts in Hardy's absence. When in the starting lineup, Cabrera is a nice low-priced flier at a weak position for FantasyScore players. Hardy should be avoided until he returns and proves his health.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce doesn't have a regular job nailed down but he could see plenty of at-bats to spell people who need days off. Pearce is worth a pickup in the later rounds of AL leagues, especially if he sees anywhere above 300 at-bats this season.

Fantasy Tip: This sounds like it is nothing to worry about, so Hardy should be drsfted around the middle of most AL and mixed leagues.

Updating a previous report, Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (shoulder) will undergo an MRA exam on his left shoulder Monday, March 30. The procedure will involve injecting dye into the shoulder to determine if he has sustained a new injury. In a best-case scenario, Hardy would not be able to resume playing before Tuesday, March 31.
Fantasy Tip: This injury could put Hardy's ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) availability for Opening Day in jeopardy. If he is sidelined for an extended period of time, SS Everth Cabrera could see playing time at the position, according to manager Buck Showalter.

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (shoulder) said his shoulder is sore after colliding with 2B Jonathan Schoop during a spring training game Friday, March 27. He said he is not sure if he will need more tests on his shoulder or if he will play in one of the split-squad games Sunday, March 29.
Fantasy Tip: Hardy's ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) status for opening day could be in question if the soreness lingers for a few more days. Owners on FantasyScore may want to avoid using him until he receives a clean bill of health.

Fantasy Tip: Tillman ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) has a career ERA over 4.00 on the road, and he'll face the Tampa Bay Rays in Tampa on opening day. He also has an ERA over 4.00 in his career against the Rays. It all adds up to Tillman being a pretty mediocre option at FantasyScore in opening day contests.

Fantasy Tip: Wieters ($4,500, 9.0% of your cap) will be a midrange catcher option on FantasyScore upon his return.
Tue, 24 Mar 2015 13:00:58 -0700
Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (elbow) is simply focusing on health and not on Opening Day. "It's more when it's ready," Wieters said. "I think that's the thing that's probably a little bit easier for me than trying to say 'OK, we have to be ready by here or we have to be ready by here.'"
Fantasy Tip: Wieters is still worth drafting in most every fantasy league, so long as you know he won't be available for a stretch following the season opener. Wieters is doing rehab on his terms and not rushing it, so he should be healthy upon return.

Fantasy Tip: Daily leagues are the ones where Joseph owners could see the most benefit, as Joseph will see time behind the plate for at least a few weeks. As for other leagues, Joseph carries lesser fantasy value because Wieters will eventually return to active duty.

Fantasy Tip: This is good news for Chen, who looks like a solid selection in the middle to late rounds of most fantasy drafts. Chen will pitch in at least the third spot, meaning the likelihood of his turn getting skipped with days off is minimal.

The Baltimore Orioles and representatives for SP Chris Tillman are reportedly working on a contract extension that would keep him with the team beyond the 2017 season, although negotiations are not likely to continue once the regular season begins.
Fantasy Tip: Despite pitching in one of baseball's most hitter-friendly divisions, Tillman has gone 38-16 with a 3.42 ERA since joining Baltimore's starting rotation on a full-time basis in July 2012. He's likely to be available in the later rounds of universal fantasy drafts, due in part to his low K/9 rate last season (6.5).

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (elbow) is "unlikely" to begin the season with the team, manager Buck Showalter said Saturday, March 21. Showalter noted Wieters' recovery is going well and this should not be considered a setback, but Wieters would begin the season on the disabled list if he is unable to catch.
Fantasy Tip: Remember Wieters is recovering from Tommy John surgery, and to this point, it hasn't been an issue with his hitting. Defense is the concern for Showalter and the organization. For fantasy purposes, expect Wieters' stock to continue to fall a little, which should make him a great value on draft day. Even with missed time, Wieters has the upside to return near-elite numbers among his backstop peers.
