Baltimore Orioles news, rumors and injuries

Fantasy Tip: Hardy ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) is close to returning to the Orioles, but keep an eye on how he does back in the big leagues before you put him into your daily league.
Sun, 03 May 2015 14:46:15 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Pearce ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) may need a day or two to get over this bug, so you may want to sit Pearce while he struggles with the side effects.
Sun, 03 May 2015 08:49:34 -0700
Fantasy Tip: It will be Pearce's ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) third straight start at second base. Pearce has been struggling recently with only six hits in his last 11 games. Pearce may not be the best option for owners on FantasyScore to consider.

Fantasy Tip: Since the All-Star break last year, Gonzalez ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) has a 2.13 ERA in 16 games, and he has a 2.59 ERA this year. He makes a great value pick at FantasyScore right now.

Fantasy Tip: Snider ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) will face right-hander Chris Archer of Tampa Bay, but he has dramatic reverse splits to open the season. Snider is hitting .500 of lefties and just .220 off right-handers to open the 2015 season. Snider will have the potential to drive in some runs, with Chris Davis and Steve Pearce batting immediately ahead of him. Snider and his moderate price make for a decent FantasyScore option, but it's not the typical righty vs. lefty scenario it seems like at first glance.

Fantasy Tip: Lough ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is a career .274-hitter in 510 plate appearances against right-handers. Lough doesn't have much to offer for power or speed, but he will have the opportunity to get on base just before the dangerous top of the order comes up for the Orioles. At the minimum price on FantasyScore, Lough will make for a low-risk, high-upside option.
Sat, 02 May 2015 13:22:57 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Machado ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) struggled to open the season but he has at least one hit in all but one of his past eight games played. Strikeouts remain an issue for Machado, but three of his four home runs for the season have come during this recent stretch. Chris Archer will start for the Rays and he's a difficult adversary, but Machado has been hitting .293 in 67 plate appearances against righties so far this season.

Baltimore Orioles OF Jimmy Paredes is batting second in the order Saturday, May 2, against the Tampa Bay Rays. The switch-hitting Paredes will serve as the Orioles' designated hitter against Rays SP Chris Archer.
Fantasy Tip: Paredes ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) is a career .275-hitter against righties, with seven home runs in 391 plate appearances. For as long as Paredes continues to benefit from a BABIP above .400 he'll be an excellent FantasyScore option, especially when batting between Many Machado and Adam Jones.

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (shoulder) worked out and took batting practice Friday, May 1. Manager Buck Showalter is optimistic Hardy could begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Bowie Monday, May 4.
Fantasy Tip: Continue to monitor Hardy's ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) progress. He'll return to everyday-shortstop duty once he rejoins the O's, however, his best days are likely behind him. He has proven to have nice pop for a middle infielder in the past, but Hardy fell to just nine home runs last season after topping 20 in each of the previous three years. Keep your expectations in check for the 32-year-old, and he may have a slow start upon his return, too.

Fantasy Tip: This will be Pearce's ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) first start since Tuesday, April 26, and he is really struggling at the dish this season with a .196/.288/.314 slash line. While the potential of adding second base eligibility is a plus for his fantasy stock, if he isn't hitting it doesn't matter. Avoiding him in the majority of fantasy formats until he shows signs of life at the dish is advised, especially in FantasyScore contests.

Fantasy Tip: Caleb Joseph ($2,900, 5.8% of your cap) has filled in nicely, but he'll lose a lot of playing time once Wieters is back in the fold. Joseph is a low-end catcher to use in ripe matchups on FantasyScore.

Baltimore Orioles SP Ubaldo Jimenez continued his strong start to the year by giving up just two runs (one earned) on three hits and six strikeouts to beat the Chicago White Sox Wednesday, April 29. Jimenez walked just one in the outing in seven innings of work. He is now sporting a 1.59 ERA on the season.
Fantasy Tip: Jimenez's ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) strong start to the season has got to turn some heads in the fantasy world, especially while shutting down the likes of strong offensive teams such as the White Sox, Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox. Expect some regression to the mean eventually, though, as he's currently sporting a .147 BABIP and ridiculous 90.2% strand rate. Jimenez can surely be useful at FantasyScore in the right matchups, but don't completely buy in just yet.

Baltimore Orioles OF Adam Jones extended his home hitting streak to 10 games Wednesday, April 29. He has a slash line of .459/.488/.892 after going 17-for-37 with two doubles, a triple, four home runs, 12 RBI and 12 runs scored in that span.
Fantasy Tip: That's a pretty absurd streak for a player that should constantly be considered for FantasyScore lineups on a daily basis. Jones ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) is hitting .403 on the year with 29 hits in 72 at-bats, and he has five home runs and 18 RBI. He was much better at home in 2014, too, hitting .294 (91-for-310) with 14 home runs.

Baltimore Orioles OF Delmon Young is back in the third spot in the batting order and is starting in right field against Chicago White Sox SP Jeff Samardzija Wednesday, April 29. OF Travis Snider is on the bench yet again.
Fantasy Tip: Travis Snider continues to lose playing time to Young ($2,600, 5.2% of cap), who is hitting .391 (9-for-23) with five RBI since April 19. Young may not be worth the cheap price at FantasyScore today, though, while facing Samardzija. Snider, after a hot start, has just five hits and three RBI since April 19. With inconsistent playing time, he's not worth a roster spot in shallow mixed leagues.
Wed, 29 Apr 2015 10:36:55 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Schoop is expected to miss six to eight months, so he won't be of any use at FantasyScore for a while. Continue to stash him in deep mixed and AL-only leagues, though. Everth Cabrera ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) is a low-priced flyer in daily games for his speed, mainly.
