Red Sox | Koji Uehara blows it in 10th

Sun, 26 Apr 2015 05:19:27 -0700

Boston Red Sox RP Koji Uehara blew a 10th-inning save opportunity Saturday, April 25, in a loss to the Baltimore Orioles. Uehara inherited a one-run lead, but took the loss after allowing a triple to OF Adam Jones, a sacrifice fly to 1B Chris Davis and a home run to OF David Lough.

Fantasy Tip: Uehara has three saves in five appearances so far this season. With this outing leading to his first blown save of the season, Uehara remains safe for now in the closer role. Uehara's 12.46 K/9 would have him tied for 18th amongst relievers if he had enough innings to qualify. Owners need to remain patient, although injuries are the bigger concern for the 40-year-old.

Red Sox | Pablo Sandoval baffled by lefties

Sat, 25 Apr 2015 19:34:29 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval went 0-for-4 against the Baltimore Orioles Saturday, April 25, and he is 0-for-16 against left-handed pitching this season.

Fantasy Tip: On the plus side, Sandoval ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) is hitting .362 against right-handed pitching, but he needs to be avoided at FantasyScore against southpaws for the time being.

Red Sox | Shane Victorino to DL

Sat, 25 Apr 2015 14:20:29 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino (hamstring) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday, April 25.

Fantasy Tip: Daniel Nava ($1,800, 3.6% of your cap) and Allen Craig ($2,100, 4.2%) will likely split time in Victorino's absence. Nava is hitting just .194, and Craig is hitting .136. Both are talented players, but they can't be used on FantasyScore until their bats awaken.

Red Sox | Rick Porcello made adjustment

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 16:40:08 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello focused on improving his sinker after allowing eight runs and 12 hits in five innings against the Baltimore Orioles Sunday, April 19. Porcello fixed his arm slot to make sure he stayed on line and had the right "whip" action with his arm.

Fantasy Tip: Porcello ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) wasn't an attractive FantasyScore option Friday night while facing the Orioles yet again.

Red Sox | Rusney Castillo timetable for at-bats

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 14:24:15 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Rusney Castillo (shoulder) could be the designated hitter for Triple-A Pawtucket Wednesday, April 29. He is currently on the minor league disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Shane Victorino's hamstring injury and Castillo's hefty contract could land Castillo in Boston sooner than later, and Castillo should be stashed in the majority of formats. Continue to check for updates on Castillo's recovery and for news of a recall. He has the upside to tip the scales in all fantasy categories.

Red Sox | Brock Holt starting vs. Baltimore

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 12:34:38 -0700

Boston Red Sox 2B/OF Brock Holt is starting at shortstop and batting eighth against the Baltimore Orioles Friday, April 24.

Fantasy Tip: Holt ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is worth considering for daily contests Friday, and in the majority of his starts. He is off to an excellent start this season and sports a .414 batting average. While the sample size is small, Holt's positional versatility is a plus in the virtual game, and if he can continue to find nearly everyday at-bats, he has mixed league value in deep formats.

Red Sox | Xander Bogaerts sitting vs. O's

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 12:23:56 -0700

Boston Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts is not in the starting lineup against the Baltimore Orioles Friday, April 24. 2B/OF Brock Holt is starting at shortstop and batting eighth Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to remove Bogaerts ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) from your daily lineups Friday, and at this point it appears it is a routine day off. Holt ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has gone 12-for-29 to start the season, and could be earning more playing time due to his hot start. He is a viable FantasyScore option for the majority of his starts, including Friday. And he is beginning to tip the scales in deep mixed leagues, especially if he continues to find close to everyday at-bats.

Red Sox | Daniel Nava starting in right field

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 12:21:32 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Daniel Nava is starting in right field and batting seventh against the Baltimore Orioles Friday, April 24.

Fantasy Tip: Nava ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is an excellent low-priced play for FantasyScore owners Friday. His spot in the order should yield a few RBI opportunities, and he has a career .291 batting average against right-handed pitchers.

Red Sox | Shane Victorino still out

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 12:15:17 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup against the Baltimore Orioles Friday, April 24. OF Daniel Nava is batting seventh and playing right field Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to remove Victorino ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) from your fantasy lineups Friday, and this will be the second consecutive game he has missed with the injury. Nava ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is a career .291 hitter against right-handed pitching and should see a few RBI opportunities batting behind the big bats in the Boston lineup. Nava is worth considering in FantasyScore contests, especially at his cap hit.

Red Sox | Clay Buchholz likes Tampa Bay

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 21:26:56 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz allowed one earned run on two hits and struck out 10 in a road start against the Tampa Bay Rays Thursday, April 23, and he has allowed just one run in his last 27 2/3 innings in Tampa Bay.

Fantasy Tip: Aside from a disastrous outing against the Yankees, Buchholz ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has been solid this season. He has allowed two earned runs or less and struck out at least seven in his other three starts, and he makes a nice value play at the pitcher spot at FantasyScore right now.

Red Sox | Shane Victorino could sit Friday

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 21:16:51 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino (hamstring) could sit out against the Baltimore Orioles Friday, April 24.

Fantasy Tip: Daniel Nava ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) drew the start in Victorino's absence Thursday and drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. If Nava earns another start, he is worth considering at FantasyScore if you are trying to free up a lot of cap space.

Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez resting

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 12:50:17 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Hanley Ramirez is not in the starting lineup Thursday, April 23. OF Allen Craig is starting in left field and hitting seventh in the batting order against Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi.

Fantasy Tip: Craig ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is hitting just .118 (2-for-17) to start the season. In what was a rough 2014 season for him, he batted only .208 (71-for-341) with five of his eight home runs against right-handers. Consider Craig a low-end outfield option at FantasyScore today.

Red Sox | Shane Victorino held out Thursday

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 12:41:17 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup Thursday, April 23. OF Daniel Nava is starting in right field and hitting sixth in the batting order against Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi.

Fantasy Tip: Nava ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is a profit play for FantasyScore gamers Thursday against Odorizzi. In 2014, Nava hit .293 (88-for-300) with all four of his home runs against righties.

Red Sox | Shane Victorino forced out

Wed, 22 Apr 2015 18:02:30 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino (hamstring) left the game Wednesday, April 22, against the Tampa Bay Rays due to tightness in his right hamstring.

Fantasy Tip: Victorino ($2,500; 5.0% of cap) was able to stay in the game initially, but was lifted for a pinch hitter later. If he is forced to miss time, Allen Craig ($2,100; 4.2% of cap) might draw a start.

Red Sox | Xander Bogaerts resting

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 15:08:57 -0700

Boston Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 21. 2B Brock Holt is starting at shortstop and hitting eighth in the batting order against Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer.

Fantasy Tip: Holt ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is off to a fine start in limited at-bats in 2015, with 12 hits in 26 at-bats, including five RBI. Archer fared well against lefties last season, though, holding them to a .227 average and five home runs in 419 at-bats. Holt is on the low end of FantasyScore second basemen to choose from.
