Chicago Cubs news, rumors and injuries
Sat, 29 Aug 2015 17:49:41 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Tommy La Stella will replace Castro ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) at second base, but he shouldn't be on your fantasy radar.
Sat, 29 Aug 2015 05:50:18 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Kershaw ($9,900, 19.8% of cap) owns a 0.95 ERA over his past 11 starts with 105 strikeouts through 85 innings. He is locked in and worth every penny at FantasyScore. It is usually worth budgeting your lineup around him, too.
Fri, 28 Aug 2015 15:43:50 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Coghlan ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) has been manning the outfield of late, but he rarely starts against lefties. Denorfia ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) shouldn't be viewed as anything more than a desperation flier at FantasyScore Friday. Kershaw ($9,900, 19.8% of cap) presents an incredibly difficult matchup.
Fri, 28 Aug 2015 15:35:13 -0700
Chicago Cubs C Kyle Schwarber is not in the starting lineup Friday, Aug. 28. OF Matt Szczur is starting in left field and batting sixth, and C Miguel Montero is starting behind the plate and batting seventh against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw Friday.
Fantasy Tip: As expected, Schwarber ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) has slowed down and owns a .149/.255/.426 slash line over his past 13 games. Still, he has four home runs during the stretch with 11 runs and 10 RBI. So there is a little inconsistency in his fantasy stock currently. With Kershaw ($9,900, 19.8% of cap) taking the hill, FantasyScore players should avoid Montero ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) and Szczur ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) Friday.
Thu, 27 Aug 2015 17:45:26 -0700
Fantasy Tip: In five starts since being acquired from Miami, Haren ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) is 1-2 with a 6.33 ERA. He is scheduled to make his next start against the Cincinnati Reds Tuesday, Sept. 1, but should be avoided in FantasyScore.
Thu, 27 Aug 2015 16:49:34 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Rodney's role in the bullpen is not known at this point, so owners should monitor the situation. Rodney could be a fantasy option if he receives some save opportunities in the final month of the season.
Thu, 27 Aug 2015 11:29:13 -0700
Chicago Cubs 3B Kris Bryant is playing right field and batting third, and SS Jonathan Herrera is starting at third base and batting ninth against San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner Thursday, Aug. 27.
Fantasy Tip: Bryant ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) receiving looks in the outfield should fuel the speculative fire for a Javier Baez recall. Baez has 45 runs, 13 home runs, 60 RBI and a .317/.382/.534 slash line over 294 plate appearances with Class AAA Iowa this season, and he is capable of player third base, second base and shortstop. At worst, seasonal owners should be keeping tabs on a potential Baez promotion, as he owns elite power potential for a middle infielder. Herrera ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is nothing more than a desperation source of cap relief at FantasyScore Thursday, and Bryant is a risky play at his hefty salary.
Thu, 27 Aug 2015 11:21:51 -0700
Chicago Cubs 2B Chris Coghlan is not in the starting lineup Thursday, Aug. 27. 2B Starlin Castro is starting at second base and batting fifth against San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner Thursday.
Fantasy Tip: Coghlan ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) has been an excellent contributor of late with 13 runs, four home runs, 11 RBI and a .840 OPS in August. However, he rarely plays against lefties, so make sure to take that in consideration before adding him to your seasonal team. Castro ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) isn't a strong FantasyScore play Thursday against Bumgarner ($9,600, 19.2% of cap), but it is worth noting, Castro is currently riding a respectable 20-for-69 stretch.
Thu, 27 Aug 2015 11:15:31 -0700
Chicago Cubs OF Chris Denorfia is playing left field and leading off, and OF Matt Szczur is starting in center field and batting seventh against San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner Thursday, Aug. 27. OF Dexter Fowler (shin, hand) is not in the starting lineup Thursday.
Fantasy Tip: Fowler ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) made a pinch-hit appearance Wednesday, Aug. 26, but with a difficult hurler on the mound, it is an opportune chance to allow him an extra day to rest his nagging injuries. Denorfia ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) and Szczur are nothing more than low-end fliers in daily contests facing Bumgarner Thursday.
Thu, 27 Aug 2015 11:10:40 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Blanco ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has been a sneaky low-end value at FantasyScore and in deep seasonal leagues. Avoid him in all formats until he returns to the lineup. Perez ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) has just 13 plate appearances this season, so he is nothing but a dice roll in daily contests Thursday.
Wed, 26 Aug 2015 16:03:54 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Russell ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) missed the past two games due to the birth of his first child. Since he was handed the everyday shortstop gig, Russell has gone 17-for-51 with 10 runs, five doubles, two home runs, five RBI and a .952 OPS. His FantasyScore salary reflects his recent hot stretch, though. You'll want to target him in favorable matchups only.
Wed, 26 Aug 2015 15:59:31 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Castro ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) has responded to his benching by going 10-for-28 with two doubles and a home run in his limited opportunities. With Jorge Soler ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) on the disabled list, Castro projects to receive everyday at-bats and play second base while Chirs Coghlan ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) shifts back to the outfield. Castro makes an excellent budget play at FantasyScore Wednesday.
Wed, 26 Aug 2015 15:50:50 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Fowler ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) in all fantasy formats Wednesday. While he is 0-for-8 over his past two games, Fowler owns a .301/.439/.544 slash line since the All-Star break with 30 runs, six home runs, 11 RBI and five stolen bases. He should be owned and started in all seasonal leagues. Denorfia ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is a potential value play at FantasyScore, but you'll want to keep your expectations in check. Interestingly, Kyle Schwarber ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) is batting leadoff Wednesday, but his value doesn't change with the one-spot promotion.
Wed, 26 Aug 2015 15:43:53 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Home or away, Hendricks ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) has been struggling of late and owns a 5.97 ERA over his past six starts. He is an incredibly risky start in all fantasy formats Wednesday, including FantasyScore. What is encouraging, though, is Hendricks has 34 strikeouts over 31 2/3 innings during his recent slump, and he owns a 3.45 FIP suggesting he is pitching better than his results.
Wed, 26 Aug 2015 10:36:10 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Schwarber ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) has cooled off a bit at the plate of late, but he still continues to clear the fences regularly, making him a popular addition to FantasyScore lineups.
