White Sox | Chris Sale sits down 13

Wed, 01 Apr 2015 15:10:43 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP Chris Sale (ankle, foot) said he felt fine after pitching his first competitive innings of the spring in a minor league game Wednesday, April 1. Sale struck out 13 batters and allowed a single run. He will not begin the season with the team, but Saturday, April 11, or Sunday, April 12, remains the target for his return.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Sale ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) in FantasyScore contests until there is an official announcement on when he'll return. In seasonal formats, he is a slam-dunk No. 1 starter for your fantasy rotation who boast high-end strikeout potential. Hone in on Sale in the early middle rounds of drafts.

White Sox | Carlos Rodon officially sent down

Wed, 01 Apr 2015 10:10:02 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP Carlos Rodon was officially reassigned to minor league camp Wednesday, April 1. He had a 3.06 ERA with five walks, 21 strikeouts and one home run allowed in 17 2/3 spring innings. General manager Rick Hahn said Rodon will be in the major leagues in the "not-too distant future." The White Sox have made it clear that they'd like Rodon to work on his fastball and changeup in the minors before he's brought up.

Fantasy Tip: Rodon had a fine camp as the White Sox's top young prospect. With Chicago's rotation not that strong, Rodon could be seen making his major league debut early in the 2015 season. His strikeout upside at the next level makes him a stash candidate in deep mixed and AL-only leagues. He should be owned in all keeper formats already.

White Sox | Solid spring for Carlos Rodon

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 14:44:48 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP Carlos Rodon allowed 17 hits (one home run) and six earned runs in 17 2/3 spring innings over five starts while striking out 21 and walking just five hitters.

Fantasy Tip: Rodon is ticketed to start the 2015 season in the minors, because the Pale Hose want to see a more well-rounded pitcher before he makes his big league debut. Rodon is the team's top prospect and could be in Chicago before long. He should be stashed in deep mixed and AL-only leagues, and he's also worth a roster spot in keeper formats.

White Sox | Carlos Rodon to begin in minors

Mon, 30 Mar 2015 15:32:55 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP Carlos Rodon will begin the 2015 season pitching as a starter for Triple-A Charlotte. However, the move wasn't made official Monday, March 30. The White Sox want Rodon to be more of a complete pitcher when he makes his major league debut. He is currently ranked as's No. 15 prospect. General manager Rick Hahn said the team doesn't want to use Rodon in a relief role.

Fantasy Tip: The young lefty has been very impressive this spring, and the rest of Chicago's starting rotation isn't anything special. There's a chance that Rodon comes up to the bigs in late April if he continues to pitch well and develop. In deep mixed leagues and AL-only formats, Rodon is surely worth stashing as a rotation option down the road.

White Sox | Carlos Rodon will be a starter

Mon, 30 Mar 2015 11:46:05 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP Carlos Rodon will not start the regular season in the bullpen, according to general manager Rick Hahn.

Fantasy Tip: Rodon ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is a candidate to make the starting rotation or start for the team early in the season. Owners on AL-only and deep mixed leagues could consider using a late-round pick on Rodon in drafts. Owners on FantasyScore may want to see how he does in a start or two before considering him.

White Sox | Carlos Rodon deserves to stick

Thu, 26 Mar 2015 13:03:18 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP Carlos Rodon deserves to break camp with a rotation spot, in the opinion of Fox Sports analyst Jon Morosi. Morosi noted service time can be manipulated easier for pitchers than position players, and Rondon could receive an extra service year with a "breather" All-Star break option to the minors or when SP Chris Sale (foot) returns from injury.

Fantasy Tip: Rodon is widely considered the rookie pitcher with the most fantasy upside this season, and the back end of the White Sox's rotation is extremely underwhelming. With Chicago looking to contend this season, their best five starters, which includes Rodon, should be in the rotation. The NC State standout was the third overall selection in the 2014 amateur draft and has 19 strikeouts through 12 1/3 innings this spring. He is an excellent late-round target in mixed leagues, especially if he cracks the rotation to begin the season. Otherwise, he is likely worth stashing.

White Sox | David Robertson throws Thursday

Thu, 26 Mar 2015 12:40:59 -0700

Chicago White Sox RP David Robertson has been dealing with some soreness this spring but felt good during his bullpen session Thursday, March 26. Manager Robin Ventura does not appear to be concerned about the soreness.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should monitor the situation to see if what Robertson is dealing with his more serious than originally thought. If healthy, Robertson is likely one of the top 10 fantasy closers in the league and should be selected in the middle rounds of drafts.

White Sox | Jeff Samardzija tabbed for opener

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 15:46:08 -0700

As expected, Chicago White Sox SP Jeff Samardzija will be the opening day starter.

Fantasy Tip: With Chris Sale injured, Samardzija ($7,700, 15.4% of cap) was the obvious candidate for the opening day start for the Pale Hose. Even at a hefty FantasyScore salary, Samardzija is a strong option for daily lineups against a Kansas City Royals team that struggled to score runs in 2014.

White Sox | Conor Gillaspie not 100%

Tue, 24 Mar 2015 16:08:42 -0700

Chicago White Sox 3B Conor Gillaspie (foot) has been dealing wtih a plantar fasciitis issue this spring, manager Robin Ventura said Tuesday, March 24.

Fantasy Tip: Gillaspie's projected everyday at-bats and potential help in batting average -- .282 last season -- are his best fantasy assets. He added 15 pounds of muscle in the offseason which could help his power, though, and he is in his offensive prime at 27, too. Still, Gillaspie is nothing more than a late-round option in deep mixed leagues and AL-only formats.

White Sox | Chris Sale continues to progress

Mon, 23 Mar 2015 14:23:35 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP Chris Sale (foot) said he will throw a side session Tuesday, March 24, and will pitch in a game or simulated game Friday, March 27.

Fantasy Tip: Sale might end up missing just a single start, if any, and it is a plus that his injury is not related to his throwing arm. Barring any setbacks, continue to view Sale as a fantasy ace and worthy of selecting early in drafts. Check back for updates on the results of his session and game action.

White Sox | Micah Johnson likely starter at 2B

Fri, 20 Mar 2015 14:28:42 -0700

Chicago White Sox 2B Micah Johnson is the likely starting second baseman to open the season, and the White Sox are not worried about starting his arbitration clock early in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson could see plenty of competition at the keystone throughout the season from Carlos Sanchez, Emilio Bonifacio and Gordon Beckham, so the fact that he might start on opening day isn't saying much. He's strictly an AL-only target in deep formats there. Johnson hasn't had a single at-bat in the majors after hitting .294 with five home runs and 22 stolen bases between Class AA and AAA in 2014.

White Sox | Chris Sale throws live BP

Fri, 20 Mar 2015 13:52:55 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP Chris Sale (foot) threw a session of live batting practice Friday, March 20, throwing four innings of 15 pitches each.

Fantasy Tip: It's great news for Sale, who may wind up missing only one start to begin the 2015 season. Unless he suffers a setback between now and opening day, Sale should remain a good investment in the early rounds as your fantasy baseball ace.

White Sox | Adam Eaton financial update

Fri, 20 Mar 2015 13:40:06 -0700

Updating a previous report, Chicago White Sox OF Adam Eaton's five-year extension will give him $850,000 in 2015, $2.75 million in 2016, $4 million in 2017, $6 million in 2018 and $8.4 million in 2019. The deal includes a $1.5 million buyout, and his options are worth $9.5 million and $10.5 million.

White Sox | Adam Eaton signs extension

Fri, 20 Mar 2015 13:35:03 -0700

Chicago White Sox OF Adam Eaton agreed to a five-year, $23.5 million contract extension Friday, March 20. The deal calls for team options for 2020 and 2021.

Fantasy Tip: Eaton is a rising fantasy commodity with the White Sox worthy of considering in the middle rounds of drafts, mainly for his stolen base contributions. He was able to hit .300 in 123 games in 2014, too, so he can contribute elsewhere, too.

White Sox | Tim Anderson sent down

Wed, 18 Mar 2015 22:24:49 -0700

The Chicago White Sox reassigned SS Tim Anderson to the minor league camp Wednesday, March 18.

Fantasy Tip: Anderson has a bright future, but that future isn't right now on the south side. Those in long-term keeper fantasy leagues will certainly want him rostered, however.
