Chicago White Sox SP Carlos Rodon will start Friday, March 6, in Cactus League spring action against the San Diego Padres, pitching coach Don Cooper said Sunday, March 1. He will work in the rotation during the spring with SP Chris Sale (foot) out with an avulsion fracture in his right foot.
Fantasy Tip: Rodon has a golden opportunity due to the Sale injury, as he gets extra chances to make the team's rotation. He will be battling Chris Beck, Scott Carroll, Francelis Montas and Brad Penny.

Fantasy Tip: Rodon, one of the top prospects in Major League Baseball and a top prospect on the White Sox, was already having a good spring. This could put him over the top. Even though Sale may be ready around the start of the year, Rodon could get more seasoning. He's worth stashing away in AL formats or very deep mixed leagues where players can be kept.

Updating a previous report, Chicago White Sox SP Chris Sale (foot) will be sidelined for three weeks because of an avulsion fracture in his right foot. Sale suffered the injury during an accident at home Friday, Feb. 27.
Fantasy Tip: Sale will be sidelined through mid-March and his availability for Opening Day is now in question. The White Sox will know more about his status once the swelling in his foot subsides. Despite this setback, Sale is still projected to be selected in the first few rounds of mixed league drafts, although owners are advised to monitor the situation as the regular season draws closer.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to monitor the situation to see how severe the injury is and if Sale will miss any time in the regular season. He will have several weeks before opening day to let the injury heal. Sale should be selected in one of the first few rounds of mixed league drafts if he is healthy.

Fantasy Tip: Rodon is ranked No. 14 on MLB.com's 2015 top-prospect list. This left-handed hurler has high upside in the White Sox organization, and he may be worth a dart throw in deep mixed leagues if he wins a spot in the rotation to start the season. In AL-only leagues, you should definitely have him on your radar.

Chicago White Sox SP Carlos Rodon threw a batting practice session Tuesday, Feb. 24, and he worked on fastball command and the changeup. C Geovany Soto said Rodon had "electric stuff, and he was impressive by Rodon's changeup which is deemed a work in progress.
Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain if Rodon has a chance to break camp with the team and what role he would fill, but fantasy owners need to pay very close attention to him in the spring. If he can somehow crack the Chicago rotation the sky is the limit fantasy-wise.

Chicago White Sox SP John Danks has lowered his arm angle and his leg kick upon pitch delivery, in an attempt to cut down on the number of home runs he has given up. Danks said the mechanical adjustments, which actually went into effect during the final month of last season, have improved his command and added some sink to his fastball, in addition to resulting in more ground balls being hit.
Fantasy Tip: After making the adjustments, Danks posted a 3.94 ERA and allowed just one home run in 29 2/3 innings over five September starts. Heis worth monitoring and should be considered in the later rounds of drafts for AL-only and deep mixed leagues.

Mark Rodgers, the agent for Chicago White Sox SP Jeff Samardzija, said he is willing to listen to contract extension offers for his client. "Obviously they really put in a lot of effort this offseason to make that club better," Rodgers said in an MLB Network Radio interview Sunday, Feb. 1. "And so out of due respect to (chairman) Mr. (Jerry) Reinsdorf and to (general manager) Rick Hahn, who's done a heck of a job, and (executive vice president) Kenny Williams, I told those guys, 'Any time you want to talk, I'll listen. Jeff and I will certainly talk.'"

Chicago White Sox 1B Jose Abreu will likely slide over to designated hitter or rest a couple of times a week with 1B Adam LaRoche in tow. General manager Rick Hahn said Abreu's foot and ankle issues that hobbled him in May could have affected him the rest of the season. Abreu is preparing to play the full 162-game season after wearing down the last two months, but LaRoche's presence could facilitate weekly DH or rest days to keep Abreu fresh.
