Stewart-Haas Racing | Tony Stewart at 65 percent

Thu, 13 Feb 2014 17:20:49 -0800

Stewart-Haas Racing driver Tony Stewart (leg) is scheduled to be back in a race car Friday, Feb. 14, for the first time since breaking his right leg last August. He'll be doing two practice sessions at Daytona International Speedway. Stewart said his leg is 65 percent healed, but his team is doing everything they can to make him comfortable in the No. 14 Chevrolet. A special pad was ordered to keep his knees from banging into the steering column. "The perfect scenario: everything would be healed 100 percent and we wouldn't be talking about it. But the bone is still about 65 percent healed right now. But as far as muscles and everything, the strength is coming much quicker than I thought it was going to be," Stewart said.

Stewart-Haas Racing | Tony Stewart had infection

Thu, 17 Oct 2013 08:40:57 -0700

Stewart-Haas Racing driver Tony Stewart's (leg) third surgery on his broken right leg was to treat an infection that "popped up" after he started to walk again. "I was more worried about bones healing and skin healing," Stewart said. "The doctor was more worried about infection and really said the first two months were kind of the critical time. We were at the end of that two months for the most part and, all of a sudden, a spot popped up that was infected and that caused the surgery last week." He remains on track to return to racing for the Sprint Cup opener at Daytona next year.

Stewart-Haas Racing | Mark Martin likely to fill in for Tony Stewart

Mon, 19 Aug 2013 10:24:04 -0700

Stewart-Haas Racing is working on a deal to finalize putting driver Mark Martin in the No. 14 Chevrolet to replace driver Tony Stewart (leg) for most, if not the rest, of the Sprint Cup season. Martin would be in the car starting in the Cup race at Bristol Motor Speedway this weekend. An official announcement is expected to come Monday, Aug. 19. Martin has the support from Michael Waltrip Racing to leave the No. 55 car to fill in for Stewart. Martin would likely drive in every race Stewart missed aside from Talladega, where driver Austin Dillon could fill in.

Fantasy Tip: Martin gambled on fuel at Michigan International Speedway yesterday and wound up finishing second to Joey Logano. Martin can still be effective at the right tracks, and he'll have increased value, depending on the week, if he is cleared to drive for SHR for the rest of the season.
