Fantasy Tip: Mesoraco ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) is still not ready to play on a regular basis, so owners should avoid him for the time being. Pena ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has only one hit in his last three starts and may not be the best option on FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Phillips ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) has not driven in many runners at this point but does have nine hits in his last five games. Owners on FantasyScore could consider Phillips as a starting option.

Cincinnati Reds C Devin Mesoraco (hip) said he is not ready to catch but is available to pinch hit Friday, April 17. He has an impingement in his left hip and is trying to avoid a stint on the disabled list.
Fantasy Tip: Continue to avoid Mesoraco in all fantasy formats until he returns and plays a full game. It is somewhat concerning that he is attempting to play through an injury, however, it may also be a sign that his return is imminent. Continue to check back for updates on his return timeline. Brayan Pena ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has four singles over 13 at-bats this season spelling Mesoraco, and Pena should be viewed as a low-end fantasy option in all formats.

Free-agent RP Rafael Soriano (Nationals) has not been contacted by the Cincinnati Reds at this time, and his agent has not contacted the team, according to general manager Walt Jocketty. Jocketty said he believes it would be too expensive to sign Soriano.
Fantasy Tip: Soriano is the top reliever available, but the Reds to not appear interested in him at this point. Soriano may need to become a setup man for a team if he is not able to find a closer job. Soriano likely would not have a lot of fantasy value unless he is a closer.

Fantasy Tip: Phillips had a pair of singled in four at-bats and is hitting .324 this season. At just $2,300 (or 4.6% of cap) he is a solid value play in FantasyScore.

Cincinnati Reds C Devin Mesoraco (hip) remained in Cincinnati, missing his third straight game Wednesday, April 15, against the Chicago Cubs. Manager Bryan Price said Mesoraco would be re-evaluated Thursday, April 16, and did not rule out placing Mesoraco on the 15-day disabled list.
Fantasy Tip: With Mesoraco sidelined it is Brayan Pena ($1,600; 3.2% of cap) seeing a majority of the starts with Kyle Skipworth as the backup. Pena is hitting .308 and is a solid low-end FantasyScore play until Mesoraco can return.

Fantasy Tip: Since the start of the 2012 season Bailey is just 4-5 with a 4.52 ERA in 11 starts against the Cardinals with an opponent batting average of .301, highest of any team he has faced (min. 12 innings). FantasyScore owners would be well advised to avoid this difficult matchup.

Fantasy Tip: Pena ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) likely will be the starting catcher until Mesoraco is able to return. He has picked up three hits in his last three games and could be a starting option on FantasyScore for owners looking to save some money at the position.

Cincinnati Reds 1B Joey Votto entered the day Tuesday, April 14, third in the National League with eight RBI, and his slash line sat at .345/.424/.759. Manager Bryan Price said Votto looks like the Votto of old before he dealt with injuries. "I noticed he just seems to be more athletic," Price said. "It could be he's just feeling better. If not 100%, very close to it. He's been very agile, moving around the bag and running the bases. He looks like an even younger version of himself."
Fantasy Tip: Votto ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) had two more hits Tuesday night to raise his early-season average to .375. He looks to be back to full health and primed for a big 2015 season. Even against Chicago Cubs lefty starter Travis Wood Wednesday, Votto makes for a strong FantasyScore play while he's in the midst of a hot streak.

Updating previous reports, Cincinnati Reds C Devin Mesoraco (hip) could be out a week or less the team hopes. "We have to see how he comes through the treatment," manager Bryan Price said. "I think he was a bit better (Tuesday). Certainly Dr. (Tim Kremchek and (physical therapist) Christy (Sweeney) back in Cincinnati will have a lot more to say about it, but at least the initial report was it wasn't something that was going to necessitate a disabled-list deal."
Fantasy Tip: Brayan Pena ($1,600, 3.2% of your cap) is filling in behind the plate, but he has little luster on FantasyScore. Mesoraco is a daily consideration upon his return.

Fantasy Tip: At $2,300 (or 4.6% of cap) Phillips is a tempting play in FantasyScore, but give him a game to prove his health before plugging him back into your lineup.
Tue, 14 Apr 2015 20:05:48 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Phillips was involved in a collision while running the bases. Itís uncertain if he will be forced to miss time, but if he does it would be Skip Schumaker ($1,600; 3.2% of cap) likely drawing into the starting lineup.
Tue, 14 Apr 2015 18:37:05 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Pena is a solid low-end FantasyScore play at just $1,600 (or 3.2% of cap) as long as he is starting, as he has some occasional pop and he will save you valuable salary to spread across more valuable positions.

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Reds C Devin Mesoraco (hip) missed another game Tuesday, April 14, and manager Bryan Price said he is dealing with "a bit of soreness." Mesoraco continues to rehab in Cincinnati, and the team recalled C Kyle Skipworth from Double-A Pensacola to back up C Brayan Pena until Mesoraco is ready. However, Price reiterated that a stint on the 15-day disabled list is unlikely.
Fantasy Tip: The catcher might be sidelined until at least Friday for the start of the series against the St. Louis Cardinals. FantasyScore owners will want to forget about Mesoraco ($4,900; or 9.8% of cap) until he can officially return and prove his health in a full game without any setbacks. Until he returns it is the Brayan Pena ($1,600; 3.2% of cap) show behind the dish, and he is a solid low-priced option.
Tue, 14 Apr 2015 15:11:17 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Mesoraco ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) is undergoing tests on his injured hip, and he may need to miss further contests. Stay tuned. The switch hitting Pena ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) hit .272 with all five of him home runs against right-handed pitchers, so he could be considered a sleeper against Chicago Cubs starter Jake Arrieta tonight.
