Colorado Rockies news, rumors and injuries

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez is not in the starting lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks left-handed SP Robbie Ray Friday, April 29. OF Ryan Raburn draws into the lineup in left field and is hitting fifth in the order. 1B Mark Reynolds is batting cleanup.
Fantasy Tip: Raburn is a notorious lefty killer and is a sound investment in DFS action this evening. Reynolds is coming off a three-hit, one-homer performance Wednesday and gains additional daily value in the cleanup spot in a potent offense. He's also worth a sleeper selection against Ray.

Colorado Rockies OF Charlie Blackmon (toe) was activated from the 15-day disabled list and is back in the leadoff spot against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray Friday, April 29. As a result, OF Gerardo Parra drops back down to the No. 6 spot in the batting order.
Fantasy Tip: You'll want to return Blackmon to starting lineups in all traditional leagues. Against a lefty in his first game back, though, you'll likely want to avoid him in daily formats and allow him to shake off some rust. Parra's daily value drops slightly with the move out of the leadoff spot, but he should remain a solid starter in all other fantasy formats.

Fantasy Tip: Since Hundley returned, he has faced two lefties, while Wolters has been in against two righties. Wolters opened eyes with three quick steals, but he has done little since with a .156-0-3 line on the year. It's worth watching in the coming days, but pass on Wolters. Adames is 4-for-24 (.167) on the year and isn't a real solid option against Juan Nicasio.

Updating a previous report, Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa (groin) was officially placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left groin Wednesday, April 27. In a corresponding move, SP Eddie Butler was recalled from Class AAA Albuquerque.
Fantasy Tip: Even in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues, De La Rosa isn't a must-stash hurler. He has a 4.48 ERA, a 1.34 WHIP and a 7.7 K/9 through his past 63 starts dating back to the beginning of 2014 and pitches his home games at hitter-friendly Coors Field, after all. Take a wait-and-see approach with Butler, as the 25-year-old righty has a 5.90 ERA through the first 19 starts of his career.

Fantasy Tip: It's his second time starting in three games since being activated from the 7-day concussion disabled list, so this is a sign that he appears to be past that. Now that Hundley is active again, that drains any value from Tony Wolters and Dustin Garneau. Owners should add the veteran backstop in any deep formats if he's out there on the wire.

Fantasy Tip: Raburn is a regular in the lineup when the Rockies face off against a southpaw, and the same will hold true when Niese toes the rubber at Coors Field for the Pirates. Raburn can be useful in these matchups, as he excels against left-handed pitching. In fact, the former Cleveland Indian hit .325 off lefties last year compared to just .136 versus right-handers. He's out to a pretty good start this season, already having three homers and six RBI in just 27 at-bats.

Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa (groin) is likely headed to the 15-day disabled list with a left groin strain. He was removed early in his outing against the Pittsburgh Pirates Tuesday, April 26. Through five starts he's 1-3 with a 10.18 ERA and has allowed three home runs in two games at Coors Field.
Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa should be left to waiver wires in all leagues outside of maybe the deepest NL-only leagues. Eddie Butler is coming up to take his spot in the rotation, but there's not much to like about him, either. Consider Butler more of a flier in NL-only affairs.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa was injured in his start last night and should only be retained in deeper NL-only universes. Butler went 3-10 with a 5.90 ERA, 1.81 WHIP and 44 strikeouts in 79 1/3 innings for the Rockies in 2015. Those numbers won't exactly instill confidence in fantasy owners. He throws hard, but there's not a ton else to like right now. Plus, he'll be pitching home games at Coors Field. Take a flier on him in NL leagues, but keep watch everywhere else.

Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa (groin) left his start Tuesday, April 26, against the Pittsburgh Pirates due to an apparent groin injury. "He pulled his groin right there going to first base, so we got him out of there," manager Walt Weiss said.
Fantasy Tip: JDLR has been awful this season, and now he is hurt. He might very well have been hurt before this the way he has been pitching. It's uncertain if he'll miss any time, but fantasy owners should stay away until he rights the ship. He has a 10.18 ERA through five outings.

Colorado Rockies SS Trevor Story is hitting .091 (2-for-22) since hitting his last home run April 18, and his average has dropped from .309 to .247. He's averaging 4.47 pitches per plate appearance, which is above the major league average of 3.88. Story said he's not seeing as many fastballs in hitter's counts. He's also struck out 31 times, which leads the National League.
Fantasy Tip: Story's amazing start to the year seems like a distant memory. He swings and misses too much to be helpful to his fantasy owners in the average department, but Story could easily top 20 homers on the season at a shallow position.
Tue, 26 Apr 2016 14:18:54 -0700
Colorado Rockies SS Trevor Story and C Nick Hundley are not in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 26. SS Cristhian Adames is starting at shortstop and hitting second, while C Tony Wolters is doing the catching and batting eighth against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Gerrit Cole.
Fantasy Tip: Cole got off to a tough start on the year, but he rebounded nicely and is a daunting matchup for both Adames and Wolters tonight. Both players shouldn't attract much attention in daily setups, even at home in hitter-friendly Coors Field.

Colorado Rockies OF Charlie Blackmon (toe) will play seven innings Tuesday, April 26, and a full game Wednesday, April 27, at Class A Modesto. If he progresses well, he could return from the disabled list Friday, April 29.
Fantasy Tip: Blackmon's return would send Ryan Raburn back to the bench. Raburn has a .333-3-6 line thus far and would be worth consideration in DFS when he's in there.
Mon, 25 Apr 2016 15:10:47 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Parra is coming off a 4-for-5 performance with four RBI in the last game and has at least one hit in four of his last five games. He is hitting .279 this season and should be a fine starting option in most leagues.
Mon, 25 Apr 2016 15:02:53 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Hundley was recently activated from the disabled list and should receive most of the starts moving forward. Owners may want to see Hundley play in a game or two before considering him for their starting lineups.
Mon, 25 Apr 2016 14:10:10 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Rusin has pitched out of the bullpen to start the season, so he likely won't be stretched out enough to pitch deep into the game Friday, which is an obvious limitation to his fantasy value Friday. Additionally, he owns a 5.21 ERA through 42 career starts and will toss any home games at Coors Field. View Rusin as a desperation start in all fantasy formats until he proves otherwise. Similarly, Lyles, who owns a career 5.18 ERA through 570 1/3 innings, can be dropped in all leagues.
