Rockies | Adam Ottavino facing Tommy John surgery

Mon, 04 May 2015 14:29:56 -0700

Colorado Rockies RP Adam Ottavino (elbow) said he will likely require season-ending Tommy John surgery to repair his injured right elbow Monday, May 4. Ottavino has a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow and will meet with Dr. James Andrews.

Fantasy Tip: Unless you're able to roster Ottavino in a DL slot, there is no need to keep him. Pitching with a torn ulnar collateral ligament is a ticking time bomb in the real and fake game. John Axford appears to he the closer for the foreseeable future for the Rockies.

Rockies | Charlie Blackmon riding a hot streak

Mon, 04 May 2015 14:07:47 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Charlie Blackmon finished the recent five-game road trip with three home runs and a .435 batting average (10-for-23).

Fantasy Tip: Blackmon ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) hit all three home runs at PETCO Park in the last two games of the trip. Now back at Coors Field, expect Blackmon to continue his strong surge at the plate, and he is a nice mid-priced target for FantasyScore players, especially while he is hitting well and when facing a favorable pitching matchup.

Rockies | Nick Hundley dialed in at the dish

Mon, 04 May 2015 13:58:17 -0700

Colorado Rockies C Nick Hundley is currently sporting a nine-game hit streak, which matches the career high he set twice in 2009.

Fantasy Tip: Hundley ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) spent the majority of his career in pitcher-friendly PETCO Park, now hitting in Coors Field appears to be helping his offensive game. Consider him a nice low-priced target for FantasyScore contests while he is hitting well.

Rockies | Jorge De La Rosa starting Saturday

Sat, 02 May 2015 17:22:47 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa will start against the San Diego Padres Saturday, May 2.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) carries a brutal 11.57 ERA into the matchup, and he allowed nine runs in two innings against the Padres April 20. He can be ignored at FantasyScore.

Rockies | Drew Stubbs out of lineup

Sat, 02 May 2015 16:13:41 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Drew Stubbs has been moved back to a bench role with OF Charlie Blackmon (illness) returning to the starting lineup Saturday, May 2, against the San Diego Padres.

Fantasy Tip: Stubbs ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is hitting just .042 to open the season and he hasn't been worthy of FantasyScore consideration even when he draws the start in the outfield.

Rockies | Charlie Blackmon back in lineup

Sat, 02 May 2015 15:56:03 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Charlie Blackmon (illness) is back in the lineup Saturday, May 2, against the San Diego Padres. Blackmon also returns to the leadoff spot in the Rockies' order.

Fantasy Tip: Blackmon ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) had hits in nine of eleven games before being forced out of the lineup due to a stomach virus. A left-handed hitter, Blackmon will have the upper hand against Padres RHP Brandon Morrow, as he is hitting .314 off righties so far this season. FantasyScore owners can continue to use Blackmon in most matchups against righties.

Rockies | Charlie Blackmon under the weather

Fri, 01 May 2015 16:40:54 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Charlie Blackmon (illness) is battling a stomach ailment, but he is feeling better Friday, May 1, than he did Thursday, April 30.

Fantasy Tip: Blackmon is considered day to day. FantasyScore owners should avoid Blackmon ($3,900; 7.8% of cap) until he is well and can prove his stamina is 100 percent.

Rockies | DJ LeMahieu leading off

Fri, 01 May 2015 15:16:39 -0700

Colorado Rockies 2B DJ LeMahieu is starting at second base and hitting leadoff against San Diego Padres SP Ian Kennedy Friday, May 1.

Fantasy Tip: LeMahieu ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) is likely only hitting leadoff tonight because Charlie Blackmon is taking the night off. It should be duly noted, though, and it makes the hot-hitting second baseman more attractive to FantasyScore owners against a struggling Kennedy. Consider him for your second base spot tonight.

Rockies | Charlie Blackmon out of lineup

Fri, 01 May 2015 15:11:07 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Charlie Blackmon is not in the starting lineup Friday, May 1. OF Drew Stubbs is starting in center field and hitting eighth in the batting order against San Diego Padres SP Ian Kennedy.

Fantasy Tip: Stubbs ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) remains hitless in his first 20 at-bats of 2015. Maybe he'll get his first knock Friday night, but you shouldn't be eager to find out at FantasyScore.

Rockies | Adam Ottavino seeking answers

Fri, 01 May 2015 09:59:17 -0700

Colorado Rockies RP Adam Ottavino (elbow) is still seeking multiple orthopedist opinions regarding the health of his elbow.

Fantasy Tip: John Axford's rope just got a little longer. Ottavino is worth stashing on your DL, but Axford needs to be picked up in most formats.

Rockies | Charlie Culberson resumes activities

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 21:16:05 -0700

Colorado Rockies INF Charlie Culberson (back) resumed baseball activities at the team's minor-league facility in Arizona Wednesday, April 29. "Best case scenario, hopefully I'll be playing in two to three weeks," Culberson said.

Fantasy Tip: Culberson will be infield depth when he returns to the big club, but FantasyScore owners might find him to be a solid value (or punt option) when he is given an occasional start.

Rockies | Tyler Chatwood making way back

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 21:15:23 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood (elbow) will start throwing breaking balls of a mound next week for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery, Chatwood said Wednesday, April 29.

Fantasy Tip: Chatwood is still out indefinitely, but he is progressing nicely and might be able to help FantasyScore owners sometime later this summer.

Rockies | DJ LeMahieu sitting vs. Arizona

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 16:44:20 -0700

Colorado Rockies 2B DJ LeMahieu is not in the starting lineup against the Arizona Diamondbacks Wednesday, April 29. 2B Daniel Descalso is batting eighth and starting at the keystone Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to remove LeMahieu ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) from your fantasy lineups Wednesday. LeMahieu has only gone two starts without a hit this season, and he should be viewed as an excellent source of cap relief in daily contests. Descalso ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is nothing more than a desperation flier for FantasyScore players Wednesday.

Rockies | Adam Ottavino also has elbow issue

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 05:53:48 -0700

Colorado Rockies RP Adam Ottavino (elbow, triceps) had an MRI also reveal inflammation in his right elbow, which will likely keep him out longer than two weeks. Manager Walt Weiss said it's not so much that Ottavino has two injuries, but that the triceps inflammation is lower on his arm, nearer the elbow.

Fantasy Tip: John Axford should be picked up in deeper formats or if you need saves.

Rockies | DJ LeMahieu leads majors in hitting

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 07:23:53 -0700

Colorado Rockies 2B DJ LeMahieu is leading the majors with a .415 batting average.

Fantasy Tip: He has 12 RBI to go along with his torrid hitting pace. At $2,100 (4.2% of your cap), he needs to be in your lineup on FantasyScore.
