Colorado Rockies news, rumors and injuries

Fantasy Tip: Ottavino won't be an option for 2016 fantasy drafts, but the fact that he's doing well shortly after the surgery could point toward Ottavino returning at some point next season.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) went just four and a third innings, allowing five hits, three walks and three earned runs. De La Rosa owned a strikeout rate of 10.03 per nine innings entering this game, but he didn't help his 6.56 ERA. An xFIP of 3.33 shows that De La Rosa should turn this around eventually, but he'll be a risky FantasyScore play until he does.

Fantasy Tip: Barnes received extensive playing time as a member of the Houston Astros in 2013 and the Rockies last year but never made much of his opportunities. Considering the Rockies already have a loaded outfield, there's probably little to take in here, especially since Barnes could produce only a .205/.266/.364 batting line in the minor leagues. Barring another injury to Colorado's outfield, Barnes is only a DFS play on FantasyScore.

Colorado Rockies 1B Justin Morneau (concussion) will not return to the team when he's eligible to come off the 7-day disabled list, and he'll be at least a few more days, according to manager Walt Weiss.
Fantasy Tip: You have to be at least a bit concerned with Morneau given his history with concussions in his time with the Minnesota Twins. In the meantime, Wilin Rosario ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has been a real nice value play since being recalled from the minors. He's hitting .293 (12-for-41) with a home run and five RBI in May.

Fantasy Tip: McKenry ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) is hitting .219 (7-for-32) with two RBI on the season, and he should be seen as a weak catching option for daily gamers.

Colorado Rockies C Wilin Rosario is not in the starting lineup Thursday, May 21. 1B Ben Paulsen is starting at first base and hitting fifth in the batting order against Philadelphia Phillies SP Jerome Williams.
Fantasy Tip: Paulsen is a low-priced option at FantasyScore if you're looking for a deep sleeper against a mediocre pitcher in a hitter's park.

Colorado Rockies 3B Nolan Arenado is not in the starting lineup Thursday, May 21. 2B Daniel Descalso is starting at the hot corner and hitting eighth in the batting order against Philadelphia Phillies SP Jerome Williams.
Fantasy Tip: Descalso ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is hitting under .200 (9-for-46) and has very little offensive upside. Look elsewhere for your second baseman.
Thu, 21 May 2015 09:31:35 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Tulowitzki ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) is only hitting .224 (11-for-49) with no home runs and three RBI this month, and his lack of home run power is very concerning. He may go largely unused at FantasyScore because of his struggles, and a return to the cleanup spot could be what he needs to jump start him.
Thu, 21 May 2015 09:26:26 -0700
Fantasy Tip: LeMahieu ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) continues to hit this year (.322-1-17), and a move up in the lineup definitely makes him more intriguing at FantasyScore (he's been mainly hitting eighth or ninth in 2015). LeMahieu is a good, but not great, daily option today.
Thu, 21 May 2015 00:53:51 -0700
Fantasy Tip: This should come as little surprise for owners of Stubbs ($2,700, 5.4% of cap), who have watched him struggle at the plate. Remove Stubbs from your lineup.
Wed, 20 May 2015 15:16:44 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Paulsen will be an extremely cheap option at FantasyScore, and he'll likely see occasional starts in the outfield with Corey Dickerson (foot) on the DL. He has a double in his only at-bat this year but only has 64 total at-bats at the major league level in his career. Paulsen does have double-digit home run power, though, but for now, consider him a deep sleeper at FantasyScore.
Wed, 20 May 2015 14:55:37 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Utley ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) is still hitting only .148 (18-for-122) with three home runs and 11 RBI this year, but he's in the midst of a modest four-game hitting streak (5-for-12). He's a .341 career hitter with seven home runs at hitter-friendly Coors Field, too. Is tonight the perfect storm for Utley to cash in as a sleeper play at FantasyScore? It could be.

Updating a previous report, Colorado Rockies OF Corey Dickerson (foot) said he will not need surgery to repair the plantar fasciitis in his foot. Dickerson said the injury has bothered for him for much of the season and will wear a boot to take pressure of his foot.
Fantasy Tip: Dickerson ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) likely will be sidelined for at least several weeks because of the injury but should return since he does not need surgery. Drew Stubbs ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) should see more playing time but is not a great option on FantasyScore at this point since he is only hitting .120.
Tue, 19 May 2015 16:31:41 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Ynoa ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is receiving the start with Corey Dickerson (foot) on the DL. He's mainly valuable for his speed, and he doesn't have much pop to speak of. The switch hitter is a utility option for the Rockies and is only an asset in deep NL-only leagues. Tonight against Harang he's a low-end keystone option at FantasyScore.
Tue, 19 May 2015 16:27:57 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Arenado ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) makes for a very strong start at FantasyScore tonight against the soft-tossing Harang at hitter-friendly Coors Field. Arenado has a slash line of .281/.314/.583 with all seven of his home runs and 19 RBI against right-handers in 2015.
