Detroit Tigers OF J.D. Martinez is not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP Drew Hutchison Saturday, Aug. 29. OF Rajai Davis will start in left field and is batting ninth in the lineup.
Fantasy Tip: Martinez ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) likely is receiving a day off and should return to the lineup for the next game. Davis ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is hitting only .157 this month and is not the best option for owners on FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Russell ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) is playing through a nagging hamstring injury, and he has stopped catching R.A. Dickey of late. Seasonal owners wouldn't be out of the question to consider an upgrade, as Martin is batting .111 with just three runs, three RBI and no extra-base hits in August. Thole ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) has a .216/.292/.266 slash line through 122 games with the Blue Jays over the past three seasons, and he is nothing but a desperation flier at FantasyScore Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Colabello ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) has been drawing into the lineup against lefties with Justin Smoak ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) relegating to the bench. While Colabello stands as a solid FantayScore option Friday, he isn't cheap, so he carries a little more risk than your typical platoon player. He owns a .324/.377/.563 slash line against lefties this season.

Detroit Tigers SP Shane Greene (shoulder) underwent season-ending surgery Thursday, Aug. 27, in Dallas, to repair a weakened blood vessel in his right shoulder which caused numbness in his pitching hand by pressing against a nerve.
Fantasy Tip: Greene is expected to be able to do his normal offseason conditioning program and should be ready for spring training. You can drop him in all fantasy formats.

Fantasy Tip: Wolf ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) has pitched well enough to win in both of his starts but has no victories to show for it. He will make his next start against the Kansas City Royals Wednesday, Sept. 2.
Wed, 26 Aug 2015 21:26:29 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Cabrera ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) kills left-handed pitching, and he has a monster average and power numbers at home in cavernous Comerica Park. He has hit safely in 11 straight games going 17-for-46 (.370) with two homers, 10 RBIs and 12 runs scored.

Detroit Tigers OF J.D. Martinez went 2-for-4 with a double and a two-run homer Wednesday, Aug. 26, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. His 34 homers are the most by a Tigers player, other than 1B Miguel Cabrera, since the team moved to Comerica Park in 2000.
Fantasy Tip: Martinez ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) has emerged as a quality FantasyScore option this season due to his power potential. He has three straight multi-hit games, posting at least one double in each of the outings while hitting two homers with six RBIs.
Wed, 26 Aug 2015 21:24:55 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Verlander's ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) outing was, by far, his best of the season. He faced just one batter over the minimum. It was his seventh shutout, and first in over three years. FantasyScore players should be encouraged by Verlander's performance, especially against a quality offense, but give him at least one more start to prove he has turned it around before trusting him again.

Fantasy Tip: Castellanos ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) strikes again, at least against left-handed pitching. He has four homers and 12 RBIs over his past nine games. He entered the game hitting .351 (33-for-94) with three doubles, two triples, four homers and 19 RBIs with a .963 OPS against southpaws, so keep that in mind when setting FantasyScore lineups in future games.

Fantasy Tip: Sanchez ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) has had a disappointing season and projects to take the hill for just a couple more starts, at best. He is worth holding in the majority of leagues, but if needed, you can feel free to cut the currently dead weight to stay competitive.
Tue, 25 Aug 2015 13:34:13 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Iglesias ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) has cooled down a bit in August, although he's still hitting over .300 on the season. Weaver has been surprisingly good since returning from the DL, too, and Iglesias doesn't have much offensive upside. The second hole is better for his daily value, but don't expect too much from Iglesias on FantasyScore tonight.
Tue, 25 Aug 2015 13:32:55 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Don't automatically assume Romine ($2,300, 4.6% of cap), a light-hitting backup infielder, will suddenly find success against the soft-tossing Weaver. Weaver has actually been very solid since his return from a hip injury. Romine remains a low-end desperation deep sleeper pick.

Fantasy Tip: Fulmer was a vital cog of the trade that sent OF Yoenis Cespedes to the New York Mets, and manager Brad Ausmus said there was mention of Fulmer in starting talks but that he was not a viable option. Keep an eye on the callup date, because Fulmer could be a sleeper if he earns a start.

Detroit Free Press OF Tyler Collins is being given a chance to win the starting left field job outright now that OF Yoenis Cespedes has been traded. Entering this week, Collins was hitting .280 in 14 games since the Cespedes trade. Collins has hit safely in nine of 12 starts this month.
Fantasy Tip: Collins ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) can be a decent low-cost source of hits and batting average if he works through some of the shortcomings in his game. He has the backing of manager Brad Ausmus and seems to be a regular since Cespedes was dealt at the deadline.

Fantasy Tip: Avila ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) owns a .160/.299/.222 slash line over 97 plate appearances since he returned from the disabled list Friday, July 3. There is no reason to target him at FantasyScore, but if the salary fits in the endgame of lineup assembly, he has some upside hitting in a strong lineup. McCann ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) has proven to be the better catcher for Detroit this season, and he is worth a look in two-catcher, AL-only and cavernous mixed formats.
