Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander (triceps) will not start throwing until he is completely pain free with no fluid in his triceps, according to manager Brad Ausmus. Verlander will travel with the team in case he is ready to throw during the road trip.
Fantasy Tip: Verlander ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) has not thrown since he tried to throw a simulated game earlier in the month. Owners should monitor the situation to see when he will be able to return to the mound.

Fantasy Tip: The Tigers just lost Joe Nathan (elbow) for the season, and Soriano makes sense. Joakim Soria is a capable closer, but he's not the same dominant pitcher he was in KC. Soriano has little fantasy value unless he snatches a closer role.

Detroit Tigers RP Joe Nathan (elbow) said he plans to attempt to return from Tommy John surgery after being diagnosed with tears of the ulnar collateral ligament and flexor pronator in his right elbow. He has yet to schedule his surgery, but he's been told to expect a longer timetable for recovery than a typical Tommy John procedure, because of the flexor tear. Nathan won't pick up a ball for roughly eight months. He has a $10 million option for next year, but the Tigers can buy him out for $1 million.
Fantasy Tip: It'll be a very tough uphill battle for Nathan to continue his major league career. Back in Detroit, Joakim Soria's path to remain the closer for the rest of the year just became much easier. He could eventually become a top-15 fantasy closer in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Nathan is expected to discuss his plans on whether he intends to continue his career at a later date. The torn flexor tendon will likely add a few months to his recovery timetable, which is usually six to nine months for a reliever.

Fantasy Tip: He played six straight days, so this is just a rest day. Hernan Perez ($1,600, 3.2% of your cap) is in the lineup in his place and is just 1-for-6 entering his first start of the season. He's not an option on FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: It might stick a fork in his career as well. Joakim Soria will continue to receive save opportunities in light of the news.

Fantasy Tip: Since the start of last season Price is 1-3 with a 7.59 ERA against the Yankees in six starts over 32 innings. FantasyScore owners need to avoid Price ($8,900; 17.8% of cap) next time he faces the Bronx Bombers.

Updating a previous report, Detroit Tigers RP Joe Nathan (elbow) said he felt a pop in his right arm Wednesday, April 22. "It feels like I broke my arm," Nathan said. "I never have broken my arm, but I would assume this is what it feels like." Nathan and manager Brad Ausmus did not comment on the severity of the setback or a recovery timeline, though.
Fantasy Tip: Joakim Soria's hold on the ninth-inning role appears firmer than ever with the news, and his fantasy value is soaring. Nathan is still worth stashing, but the 40-year-old reliever might be a long way from returning to the mound. Check back for updates, as more details should surface in the coming days.

Fantasy Tip: Remove Gardner from your fantasy lineups Wednesday. It is unlikely his absence is injury related, as the Yankees are facing lefty-ace David Price Wednesday. Chris Young ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) has moved up to the two hole and will play left field where Gardner normally plays. Young is a low-priced flier for FantasyScore contests.

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear exactly what Nathan injured, but it doesn't look good, and he appeared to be in a lot of pain. It may be even more of an uphill battle for the 40-year-old to make it back to Detroit now, which further increases the value of current closer Joakim Soria. Continue to stash Nathan in all formats, for now.

Updating a previous report, Detroit Tigers DH Victor Martinez (knee) will be day-to-day for the foreseeable future, according to manager Brad Ausmus. The team is facing right-handed pitchers for the rest of the week.
Fantasy Tip: Martinez ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) has continued knee soreness, and it bothers him more when he swings from the left side of the plate. Martinez is in the lineup Tuesday, and as long as he's playing, he's an acceptable option for FantasyScore users. However, there's a good chance he could be rested later this week.

Fantasy Tip: Nathan could come off the disabled list Friday if he doesn't have any setbacks in his rehab outing tomorrow. There's no guarantee Nathan will be given the closer's role back immediately, especially since Joakim Soria has gotten the job done in his absence. Stay tuned.

Detroit Tigers DH Victor Martinez (knee) has played in three straight games and will be in the lineup for the foreseeable future, according to manager Brad Ausmus. Martinez is working his way back to 100% health after offseason knee surgery. He has been moving around with a limp early in the season, and he tweaked the knee in the second week. However, his soreness is in his kneecap and not in the surgically-repaired area. An MRI exam last week showed no additional damage to Martinez's knee. If the soreness doesn't go away, Ausmus said the team may have to put him on the disabled list. Martinez is most affected while swinging left-handed, and he has been told, on occasion, to hold off on swinging lefty.
Fantasy Tip: Martinez ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) is hitting .290 (9-for-31) despite playing through his knee soreness. When he's in the lineup, he's not a bad FantasyScore option, but you'll need to stay alert and make sure he's in there. Continued knee soreness will make him more of a risky fantasy asset.

Fantasy Tip: Lobstein beat the Indians in his first start, and is worth a flier in FantasyScore at just $3,000 (or 6.0% of cap) if you want to save money and load up on high-end hitters.

Fantasy Tip: Manager Brad Ausmus has said Nathan will return to the closer role when healthy, so Nathan should be owned in all formats. Still, at 40, Nathan will likely have a short leash, especially with Joakim Soria (four saves, 1.59 ERA and 1.05 WHIP) pitching extremely well.
