Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton showing off power

Sat, 25 Apr 2015 17:39:38 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton went 3-for-3 with a home run, three runs scored, two RBIs and a walk in an 8-0 win over the Washington Nationals Saturday, April 25, and he has five home runs in his last nine games.

Fantasy Tip: Stanton ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) took about a week to rev up, but he is back to launching homers on a regular basis. In addition to his five home runs, he has nine RBIs and nine runs scored over his last nine games, and his power potential makes him worth considering at FantasyScore on a daily basis.

Marlins | Christian Yelich has bulging back disk

Sat, 25 Apr 2015 11:34:35 -0700

Updating a previous report, an MRI exam for Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich (back) revealed that he had a bulging disk in his lower back.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the finding, the team is confident that Yelich will be ready to return to action once his 15-day stint on the disabled list is over. For the time being, OF Ichiro Suzuki ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) appears slated to see most of the playing time in left field while Yelich is out.

Marlins | Dee Gordon staying hot

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 20:01:56 -0700

Miami Marlins SS Dee Gordon went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in a 3-2 win over the Washington Nationals Friday, April 24, and he has 12 hits in his last six games.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon's ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) batting average sits at a stellar .370, and he has been a steady source of runs scored and stolen bases. His career numbers suggest his average will decline eventually, but in the meantime, he makes a solid buy at FantasyScore as long as he is reaching base and has a chance to use his speed.

Marlins | Ichiro Suzuki starting again

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 13:23:12 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Ichiro Suzuki is starting in left field and hitting seventh in the batting order against Washington Nationals SP Jordan Zimmermann Friday, April 24.

Fantasy Tip: Suzuki ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) will effectively become the starting left fielder with Christian Yelich (back) on the disabled list. Suzuki is primarily a matchup play with little upside at FantasyScore, and even though Zimmermann is off to a slow start in 2015, Suzuki is a weak option for daily gamers Friday night.

Marlins | Jarrod Saltalamacchia to paternity list

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 12:04:00 -0700

Miami Marlins C Jarrod Saltalamacchia was placed on the paternity list Friday, April 24.

Fantasy Tip: Expect J.T. Realmuto ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) to continue receiving the majority of starts behind the dish for the Marlins, and especially with Saltalamacchia ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) out of the picture in the short term. Realmuto is off to a nice start with the stick, too. He has gone 7-for-23 with a .391 on-base percentage to start the season, and he is a nice source of cap relief for FantasyScore players.

Marlins | Christian Yelich lands on DL

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 11:56:48 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich (back) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday, April 24, with a lower back strain. 1B Justin Bour was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Yelich being sidelined immediately boosts the fantasy value of Ichiro Suzuki ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) in the short term. However, he has just nine hits in 35 at-bats this year with only one RBI, and he doesn't have the pop that made him extremely valuable in his hey day. Only consider Suzuki at FantasyScore in juicy matchups with him moving to an everyday role. Suzuki still isn't very attractive in shallow mixed leagues, even with consistent playing time.

Marlins | Adeiny Hechavarria stays hot

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 14:48:26 -0700

Miami Marlins SS Adeiny Hechavarria upped his average to .311 by recording four hits Thursday, April 23, after starting the season 1-for-22. He now has a six-game hitting streak and had hits in nine of 10 games on the road trip.

Fantasy Tip: Hechavarria ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is on a roll and should be relied on at FantasyScore while he's hot. Consider him a sleeper option against a struggling Stephen Strasburg Friday night.

Marlins | Christian Yelich out again Thursday

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 07:35:14 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich (back) is out of the lineup Thursday, April 23, against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Fantasy Tip: Ichiro Suzuki ($1,800, 3.6% of your cap) is in there, but a singles hitter devoid of his former stolen base potential has very little luster on FantasyScore.

Marlins | Jarred Cosart tops first club

Wed, 22 Apr 2015 21:03:23 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Jarred Cosart allowed just one earned run with four hits and no walks over six innings in a win against the Philadelphia Phillies Wednesday, April 22. He also struck out four batters in the 91-pitch quality start against the team which drafted him in the 38th-round back in 2008. "It was my first game pitching here," Cosart said. "The team that drafted you is pretty special. They gave me my first opportunity."

Fantasy Tip: If Cosart continues to pitch like this FantasyScore owners are going to take notice. He has quality starts in two of his three outings this season and he has racked up four or more strikeouts in each of the past two. At just $3,200 (or 6.4% of cap) he isn't a bad sleeper SP2 in FantasyScore.

Marlins | Christian Yelich remains out

Wed, 22 Apr 2015 13:35:00 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich (back) remains out of the starting lineup Wednesday, April 22. OF Ichiro Suzuki once again is starting in left field and hitting seventh in the batting order against Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels.

Fantasy Tip: Yelich's ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) slow start hasn't been helped by his recent back injury. If it lingers, there's a chance he could land on the disabled list. Although Hamels hasn't been himself to start 2015, Suzuki should be considered more of a weak play. For those trying to go against the grain, there's this: Suzuki hit .333 (21-for-63) with his only homer of the year against lefties in 2014.

Marlins | Miami unhappy with Marcell Ozuna

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 21:32:55 -0700

The Miami Marlins haven't been pleased with OF Marcell Ozuna, according to a team official. He has been reportedly running to first base more slowly than last season. Some internally believe he could be in better shape. He also recently made a defensive gaffe which angered team officials and was benched a game for tardiness.

Fantasy Tip: Ozuna was a solid FantasyScore option last season with several nice offensive runs, but he is lost this season and not worth using at $3,700 (or 7.4% of cap).

Marlins | Ichiro takes advantage of start

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 20:28:24 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Ichiro Suzuki had pair of singles with a run scored Tuesday, April 21, against the Philadelphia Phillies filling in for the injured OF Christian Yelich (back).

Fantasy Tip: Ichiro is a solid add in FantasyScore at just $1,800 (or 3.6% of cap), as he could see regular starts with Yelich expected to miss a few days at minimum.

Marlins | Christian Yelich to miss a few games

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 20:26:26 -0700

Updating a previous report, Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich (back) said Tuesday, April 21, that he expects to miss the next several days due to tightness in his lower back. It's also possible he might land on the 15-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: The biggest beneficiary will be Ichiro Suzuki ($1,800; 3.6% of cap), who could play fairly, especially if Yelich hits the DL. Ichiro collected two singles with a run scored in four at-bats filling in Tuesday in Philadelphia.

Marlins | Christian Yelich scratched

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 15:41:28 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich (lower back) was scratched Tuesday, April 21, against the Philadelphia Phillies, due to lower-back tightness. OF Marcell Ozuna will hit fifth in the order, while OF Ichiro Suzuki will start in left field and bat sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Suzuki ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) could be worth a rare start in FantasyScore contests with an excellent matchup against the Phillies and SP Jerome Williams. Suzuki has five hits in 26 plate appearances this season, but is just $200 more than the minimum price on FantasyScore, and will have a nice spot in the Marlins batting order for driving in some runs.

Marlins | Jarrod Saltalamacchia unhappy

Fri, 17 Apr 2015 14:55:05 -0700

Miami Marlins C Jarrod Saltalamacchia is unhappy about being benched, as C J.T. Realmuto will start his third consecutive game Friday, April 17. "I can't control this," he said. "I can't grab the lineup and put my name on it. Do I want to be in there? Yeah. There's not a day I don't want to be in there. I'm not going to sit here and complain. I want to play. But I'm not going to hurt this team. I'm not going to be the reason."

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Saltalamacchia ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) in FantasyScore contests Friday, and his lack of playing time is a real concern for owners in deep mixed, two-catcher and NL-only formats. Realmuto ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is worth a look in daily contests Friday, and he is likely worth a speculative add in all the deep leagues previously mentioned.
