Marlins | Dee Gordon suspended 80 games

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 23:07:35 -0700

Miami Marlins 2B Dee Gordon has been suspended for 80 games by Major League Baseball for a positive PED test. Exogenous testosterone was found in Gordon's test.

Fantasy Tip: This is a major blow to the Marlins and his fantasy owners, as Gordon is one of the game's bigger stolen base threats. While Gordon is on the shelf, youíll have to hang on to him on the bench in most leagues. For the Marlins, Martin Prado could move to second base. Even if he stays at third, look for Derek Dietrich or Miguel Rojas to earn more at-bats. Dietrich has more upside. His power potential and possible eligibility at first, second and third base and outfield make him a strong roster consideration in deep mixed leagues.

Marlins | Marcell Ozuna takes a seat

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 14:58:18 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Marcell Ozuna is not in the starting lineup Thursday, April 28. OF Ichiro Suzuki is starting in center field and is batting sixth against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Kenta Maeda.

Fantasy Tip: Ichiro will get to face his Japanese counterpart in Maeda. Maeda has been one of the better pitchers in all of baseball in April, though, so Suzuki won't be a strong daily selection Thursday evening. Ichiro does have eight hits in 21 at-bats (.381) to begin the year, but he doesn't run much anymore and his power is lacking.

Marlins | Justin Nicolino dazzles in '16 debut

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 03:37:21 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Justin Nicolino was tremendous in his season debut Wednesday, April 27, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He logged 7 1/3 shutout innings, surrendering only two hits, two walks and striking out two.

Fantasy Tip: Nicolino's season debut could not have gone any better, as he stifled a tough Dodgers club on the road throughout the entire evening. As always, though, he didn't post many strikeouts, punching out only two batters, but if you can look past that, there might be some value here in deeper leagues. He certainly has the ability to stick in the major league rotation after displaying some potential as a rookie last year.

Marlins | Jose Urena fills in for save

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 23:56:26 -0700

Miami Marlins RP Jose Urena recorded his first career save Wednesday, April 27.

Fantasy Tip: A.J. Ramos saved games three days in a row and was off Wednesday, so there's no reason to fear for his job. Urena offers some clarity, though, as to who is directly behind Ramos. He's worth having in NL-only leagues and deeper leagues as Ramos' handcuff.

Marlins | Justin Bour out again

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 15:18:47 -0700

Miami Marlins 1B Justin Bour is not in the starting lineup against Los Angeles Dodgers left-handed SP Scott Kazmir Wednesday, April 27. 1B Chris Johnson is starting at first base and is hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson is likely to continue platooning with Bour at first base, which will limit Bour's fantasy upside in deep mixed and NL-only leagues. Johnson has hit over .300 in his career against lefties, but his power isn't as prominent against southpaws. Regardless, he's worth a look against Kazmir tonight as a low-priced first base option in DFS action.

Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton homers again

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 23:25:17 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton homered for his third straight game Tuesday, April 26.

Fantasy Tip: Stanton is still just hitting .246 but now has six homers and 16 RBI. He's starting to square the ball up and should be a daily consideration.

Marlins | Justin Nicolino to start Wednesday

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 17:09:25 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Justin Nicolino will start Wednesday, April 27, against the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to manager Don Mattingly.

Fantasy Tip: It's not the most desirable of matchups for streaming purposes but owners might want to be tracking Nicolino anyway. The 24-year-old southpaw was solid as a rookie last season, posting a respectable 4.01 ERA in 12 starts. The problem, of course, is that he doesn't rack up many K's. In fact, Nicolino possessed just a 23-to-20 K/BB ratio over 74 total innings. Even so, he might be someone capable of contributing to fantasy teams in deeper leagues.

Marlins | Christian Yelich staying hot

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 16:10:58 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich is hitting .360/.435/.498 in his last 89 games.

Fantasy Tip: Yelich is off to a 23-for-62 (.371) start this year with one home run and seven RBI. His smooth line-drive approach at the plate makes him a great batting average contributor in all fantasy formats. If only he can generate some more lift to fuel a home run improvement, he could become a five-category contributor.

Marlins | Justin Bour out, Chris Johnson in

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 15:38:29 -0700

Miami Marlins 3B Chris Johnson is in the starting lineup at first base and batting seventh Tuesday, April 26, versus Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw. 1B Justin Bour is getting the night off.

Fantasy Tip: Notably, it's just his second start of the season. Johnson can be useful at times based on the matchup when he's aligned opposite a left-handed pitcher, but tonight would not be a good situation to try him out, having to square off with the greatest the game has to offer. Bour, meanwhile, has underachieved so far after a very encouraging showing in 2015.

Marlins | Martin Prado back in lineup

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 15:37:35 -0700

Miami Marlins 3B Martin Prado (personal) is back in the lineup at third base and batting second Tuesday, April 26, against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw.

Fantasy Tip: Prado just came off paternity leave, and he's about to be greeted in his return by the best pitcher in the world today. It's not a situation owners should explore in daily games, but he's worth getting back in there for weekly formats. In the process, this also shuts down Derek Dietrich's value for now.

Marlins | Martin Prado back, Jarred Cosart optioned

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 13:41:29 -0700

Miami Marlins 3B Martin Prado was reinstated from the paternity list Tuesday, April 26, and SP Jarred Cosart was optioned to Class AAA New Orleans in a corresponding move. SP Justin Nicolino could make the start Wednesday, April 27, after going 2-2 with a 3.60 ERA for New Orleans. Cosart was 0-1 with a 7.89 ERA in three starts, and he walked 15 in 14 2/3 frames with eight strikeouts. Cosart mentioned he wasn't happy with his mechanics and didn't "feel natural" with his lower hand placement.

Fantasy Tip: Return Prado to your starting lineups wherever you own him. Cosart can likely be dropped wherever he's owned, as he's no sure bet to rejoin the rotation anytime soon. Unlike Cosart, Nicolino has great control, but that's really where the intrigue ends. He could be a short-term stream option in the right matchups in the deeper and daily leagues.

Marlins | A.J. Ramos unscathed

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 23:52:45 -0700

Miami Marlins RP A.J. Ramos nailed down his fourth save Monday, April 25.

Fantasy Tip: He has yet to allow an earned run and has given up just two hits in seven frames. His five walks aren't great, but three of them came in his first outing. He has nine strikeouts in those seven innings, and he's a legit RP1 right now.

Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton reaches four times

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 17:24:54 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in a 5-4 win over the San Francisco Giants Sunday, April 24.

Fantasy Tip: Stanton has started slowly, but he is still on pace for around 40 home runs. He was drafted for his power, not his average, and the numbers should be there in the end.

Marlins | J.T. Realmuto ties career high

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 17:19:44 -0700

Miami Marlins C J.T. Realmuto tied a career high with four hits, finishing 4-for-4 with a double, home run, an RBI and a run scored in a 5-4 win over the San Francisco Giants Sunday, April 24.

Fantasy Tip: Realmuto has run hot and cold this year, and he isnít worth owning outside of two-catcher leagues.

Marlins | Adeiny Hechavarria not playing

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 12:19:14 -0700

Miami Marlins SS Adeiny Hechavarria are not in the starting lineup against San Francisco Giants SP Matt Cain Sunday, April 24. SS Miguel Rojas will start at shortstop and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Rojas has gone 3-for-10 so far this season and could be an option in NL-only leagues but can be avoided in most mixed leagues.
