Houston Astros 3B Matt Dominguez will receive playing time at first base during spring training, according to manager A.J. Hinch. Dominguez will battle for playing time at third base with 3B Luis Valbuena, with Dominguez likely starting against left-handed pitchers. Dominguez could potentially spell 1B Jon Singleton at first base against southpaws, too.
Fantasy Tip: At best, Dominguez is a late-round flier for owners in cavernous mixed league and AL-only formats desperate for power. He has 42 home runs through 357 games, but is a batting average anchor with a career .233 mark. Add the lack of guaranteed at-bats and there is little need reach for Dominguez on draft day.

Houston Astros SS Carlos Correa (ankle) said he wants to work on his baserunning this spring and sliding into bases, which he hasn't done since breaking his right ankle sliding into third base in the minors last summer. Correa will slide head-first while stealing bases but will still go feet first to break up double plays. Correa is unlikely to make his major league debut in 2015, and he'll likely start the year at Double-A Corpus Christi.
Fantasy Tip: Correa provides excellent speed and power at a very scarce position. He won't be relevant in single-year formats in 2015, but he's most definitely a strong option for keeper and dynasty formats.

Fantasy Tip: If the plan works it could increase Villar's fantasy value during the season because he could gain utility status. He hit seven homers in 263 at-bats, but that .209 batting average makes owners cringe. Villar's value is lower until that average comes up.

Houston Astros C/OF Evan Gattis is expected to get an early look this spring in left field, according to manager A.J. Hinch. Gattis is expected to see work at first base later in the spring. Gattis played 48 games in left field for the Atlanta Braves in 2013. "Seeing he's played (48) games in the outfield a couple of years ago, that's a faster comfort level for him," Hinch said. "He's been working hard this winter in the outfield -- he told me that. I just see that as a better fit early to get into camp."
Fantasy Tip: Gattis will be very valuable this year with multi-positional eligibility, but he mainly will be used as a power-hitting catching option for fantasy squads. The move to the American League and hitter-friendly Minute Maid Park only boosts Gattis' value. However, you'll need to plan around a weak contact rate and plenty of strikeouts.

Houston Astros SP Roberto Hernandez might be late to spring training due to visa issues, according to manager A.J. Hinch. "I haven't been told he's going to be late, but he would be the one question," Hinch said Wednesday, Feb. 18. Hernandez's agent said the pitcher has an appointment to address the matter Thursday, Feb. 19.
Fantasy Tip: Hernandez will compete for a spot in the Houston rotation in spring training. If he can secure a spot for the Astros, a team on the rise, he could occasionally be a useful FantasyScore option when the matchup is favorable.

Houston Astros RPs Luke Gregerson, Chad Qualls and Pat Neshek will all be competing for the closer's job in spring training. Between all three relievers, they have only 95 career saves, with Qualls having 70 of them in 25 combined seasons.
Fantasy Tip: While Qualls has the most experience and most career saves, and he may start out the year as Houston's ninth-inning stopper, if you're drafting a Houston reliever for saves and upside, it should be Gregerson.
