Manager Bo Porter and general manager Jeff Luhnow each indicated his timetable is unclear. Fowler is doing some exercises, but also resting and taking treatment and not doing any baseball activities yet.

Astros | Brady Aiken's contract dispute

Wed, 16 Jul 2014 16:52:40 -0700

Houston Astros SP Brady Aiken, the No. 1 overall draft pick, and the team are in a high-stakes "game of chicken" in their contract negotiations, according to a person familiar with the talks. The deadline to sign rookies to deals is Friday, July 18. Aiken is still seeking $6.5 million, and his backers are saying that he's fully healthy. However, the Astros are looking for a discount after an exam showed what some believe is a worrisome abnormality related to the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow. If Aiken goes unsigned, he'd be only the second No. 1 overall pick in history not to sign.

Fantasy Tip: This dispute could easily go right up until the deadline Friday. However, as Heyman notes, the Astros can ill afford to lose out on the top overall pick and an arm like Aiken, so we expect a deal to eventually be reached.

Astros | Brady Aiken may have small UCL

Wed, 16 Jul 2014 05:17:54 -0700

Updating previous reports, Houston Astros P Brady Aiken (elbow) may have an abnormally small ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow, which the team contests would make him more of a health risk. "Maybe the ulnar collateral ligament is small but he has a freakishly big flexor-pronator mass, something like that, where it's like, for whatever reason, his anatomy is different, but it's not impacting him," Dr. Chris Geary, an orthopedic surgeon and the chief of sports medicine at Tufts Medical center who has not evaluated Aiken said. "It sounds to me like it's not completely straightforward. It's one of those things you could maybe, depending on what it actually is, you could kind of spin it depending on what your own agenda is."

Astros | Agent accuses team of wrongdoing

Tue, 15 Jul 2014 07:24:16 -0700

Houston Astros P Brady Aiken's (elbow) adviser, and high-profile agent, Casey Close criticized the Astros and Major League Baseball for the way they handled negotiations with draft picks. Close advises No. 1 overall pick Aiken and Astros fifth-round pick P Jacob Nix. Close accuses the Astros of using a medical concern to pressure Aiken to sign a deal with a lower signing bonus to allow the team to sign Nix and 21st-round pick P Mac Marshall under the draft cap. "We are extremely disappointed that Major League Baseball is allowing the Astros to conduct business in this manner with a complete disregard for the rules governing the draft and the 29 other clubs who have followed those same rules," Close said.

Astros | Chris Carter heating up

Mon, 14 Jul 2014 14:55:01 -0700

Houston Astros DH Chris Carter has a nine-game hitting streak, dating back to Thursday, July 3. Carter has six home runs, 10 RBIs and nine runs, with a .371/.405/.914 slash line during the streak.

Fantasy Tip: Carter's power is legit, but he is a batting average anchor, too. He is an option in all formats when hot.
