Houston Astros news, rumors and injuries

Fantasy Tip: Expect Lowrie ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) to enter into some kind of rotation with Luis Valbuena ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) and Carlos Correa ($5,100, 10.2% of cap). However, it is likely Lowrie and Correa receive the majority of playing time down the stretch, with the Astros working Lowrie back into the mix cautiously initially.

Fantasy Tip: Marisnick ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) stands to grab everyday at-bats when he returns with George Springer (wrist) on the disabled list. Marisnick has a power-speed profile, but it has been hindered by his .245 batting average and .283 on-base percentage. There is still lots of upside for the 24-year-old outfielder, though.

Fantasy Tip: Rasmus ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) has missed the last five games but could return soon. He posted a .268 batting average in June and recorded nine RBIs, but owners on FantasyScore may want to see him play in a few games before using him.

Fantasy Tip: Presley hit .308 in the minors this season, and he stands to receive a few starts while George Springer (wrist) is on the disabled list. Domingo Santana ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) could see the larger chunk, though. So Presley is nothing more than a desperation add in AL-only and cavernous mixed seasonal leagues, and he is a low-end source of cap relief for FantasyScore players.

Fantasy Tip: Tucker ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) is batting just .171 with a .465 OPS over his past 12 games, so he isn't in the best current form. Although, he does sports a respectable .244 ISO and .353 wOBA against righties this season, so there is upside as a flier at FantasyScore Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Hamels ($8,500, 17.0% of cap) has a 3.22 ERA, a 1.15 WHIP and 113 strikeouts in 106 1/3 innings, but he's on a bad team, which limits his win potential. He's still effective on FantasyScore, but 17% of your cap is a lot to put on a starter with tall odds to get the win.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Rasmus ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) will avoid the DL. However, it's unknown if he'll be back in the lineup tonight against the Red Sox. If he is in there, he's a risky FantasyScore option against a left-handed pitcher.

Houston Astros OF George Springer (wrist) will not need surgery for his non-displaced fracture of his wrist, according to general manager Jeff Luhnow. Springer will have a checkpoint at the two-week mark and one at the six-week mark on his wrist. Luhnow thinks Springer would be cleared to resume baseball activities at the six-week mark.
Fantasy Tip: It sounds as though Springer ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) won't be back until at least September for the final month of the regular season. That's a significant chunk lost for his fantasy owners. At least in the short term, Domingo Santana ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is worth a look for outfield depth in deep mixed and AL leagues, as he'll likely see an increase in value with consistent at-bats.

Houston Astros OF George Springer (wrist) was placed on the disabled list with a right wrist fracture Thursday, July 2. OF Alex Presley was called up from Class AAA Fresno in a corresponding roster move.
Fantasy Tip: It's a tough blow for both the Astros and Springer's ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) fantasy owners, especially since this serious injury could cost Springer most, if not all, of the rest of the season. Hold him until we have a firm timetable on a possible return. Domingo Santana ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is likely to have an everyday role in the outfield now, and he's an acceptable add in deep mixed and AL leagues.

Houston Astros OF George Springer (wrist) is likely to land on the 15-day disabled list after he was hit on the right wrist by a pitch Wednesday, July 1. Manager A.J. Hinch said he's not optimistic Springer can avoid the DL.
Fantasy Tip: Jake Marisnick (hamstring) just began a rehab assignment, and he'll probably take Springer's vacancy in the outfield. At $3,300 (6.6% of cap), he'll be a matchup play on FantasyScore. As for Springer, stash him in all formats.

Fantasy Tip: Singleton ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is a feast-or-famine hitter. Over 370 plate appearances in his career, he has 13 home runs and a .168/.286/.335 slash line. FantasyScore players should view him as a high-risk, high-reward option, and it isn't out of the question to aim higher at first base.
Wed, 01 Jul 2015 15:38:14 -0700
Houston Astros SS Carlos Correa is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 1. SS Marwin Gonzalez is starting at shortstop and batting eighth against Kansas City Royals SP Edinson Volquez Wednesday.
Fantasy Tip: Correa ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) has been as advertised with 13 runs, five home runs, 15 RBI, four stolen bases and a .287/.309/.543 slash line over his first 22 games. He should be owned in all fantasy formats, and he is an excellent FantasyScore option in favorable matchups. Gonzalez ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) projects as nothing more than a low-priced flier for daily contests Wednesday.

Houston Astros SP Scott Feldman (knee) threw 45 pitches in a simulated game Tuesday, June 30, and manager A.J. Hinch said he looked good. Feldman is scheduled to throw a bullpen session in two days and then he'll likely head out on a minor-league rehab assignment.
Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain when Feldman will return and in what capacity he'll work when he is back. FantasyScore players need not bother with him until his situation becomes clearer.
Tue, 30 Jun 2015 21:10:51 -0700
Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain how much time Marisnick will need at Fresno, but FantasyScore players should avoid him until he can officially return and play without any lingering effects of his injury.
Tue, 30 Jun 2015 21:09:57 -0700
Houston Astros OF Colby Rasmus (arm) missed his fourth straight game Tuesday, June 30, against the Kansas City Royals. Manager A.J. Hinch said he is hopeful Rasmus responds to treatment for a skin infection on his left arm and he can avoid the 15-day disabled list.
Fantasy Tip: Rasmus ($3,100; or 6.2% of cap) should be avoided in FantasyScore until he can officially return and prove his health in a game or two without any setbacks or limitations.
