Houston Astros news, rumors and injuries
Fri, 29 May 2015 14:23:02 -0700
Houston Astros C Jason Castro is out of the starting lineup against a left-hander Friday, May 29. C Hank Conger is behind the dish and hitting eighth in the batting order against Chicago White Sox SP Carlos Rodon.
Fantasy Tip: Conger ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is batting only .175 (7-for-40) with two home runs and four RBI in 2015. He should be avoided on FantasyScore tonight.

Houston Astros SS Marwin Gonzalez is not in the starting lineup Friday, May 29. SS Jonathan Villar is starting at the 6 and hitting seventh in the batting order against Chicago White Sox SP Carlos Rodon.
Fantasy Tip: Villar ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has very little offensive upside and is a poor FantasyScore play tonight against up-and-coming youngster Rodon.

Houston Astros OF Colby Rasmus is not in the starting lineup Friday, May 29. OF Preston Tucker is starting in left field and hitting third in the batting order against Chicago White Sox SP Carlos Rodon.
Fantasy Tip: Tucker ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) has some intriguing power from the lest side, especially hitting near the heart of Houston's dangerous lineup. In a small sample size, Tucker has a .429 average (6-for-14) against lefties, but Rodon is on the more nasty young southpaws in the game, making it hard to justify using Tucker on FantasyScore this evening.

Fantasy Tip: Oberholtzer ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) should be viewed as a desperation flier in FantasyScore contests Monday. With Class AAA Fresno, Oberholtzer has a 5.68 ERA and 1.34 WHIP over three starts this season, and through 35 starts in the majors, he has a 9-18 record, a 3.71 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 5.9 K/9. You should likely aim higher in all formats.

Updating a previous report, Houston Astros SP Scott Feldman (knee) underwent arthroscopic surgery to fix a torn right medial meniscus in his knee Friday, May 29, and he was put on the 15-day disabled list. He's expected to be out six weeks. He sustained the injury during his start Tuesday, May 26. SP Brett Oberholtzer (finger) could come off the disabled list to take Feldman's spot in the rotation after he made a rehab start Wednesday, May 27.
Fantasy Tip: With Feldman out for that long, he can be dropped in standard fantasy leagues. Oberholtzer ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) allowed one earned run in just three innings of work in his only start this year before being injured. Check to see if he was dropped in AL-only leagues. At FantasyScore, it'd be wise to avoid him for at least a start or two if he rejoins the rotation in place of Feldman.

Houston Astros SP Scott Feldman (knee) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday, May 29, following surgery on his right knee. Feldman will miss six weeks. In a corresponding move, SP Michael Feliz was called up from Class AA Corpus Christi.
Fantasy Tip: Feldman ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) should be immediately shelved until his return to active duty, which will likely be after the All-Star break. Feliz will pitch out of the bullpen and carries minimal fantasy value. Look to someone like Brett Oberholtzer ($3,100, 6.2% of cap), who could get Feldman's rotation spot.

Houston Astros SP Collin McHugh allowed a season high-tying nine hits Wednesday, May 27, against the Baltimore Orioles. McHugh struck out five hitters, but he allowed four runs in six innings of work.
Fantasy Tip: McHugh ($6,700, 13.4% of cap) had his third start of the season in which he allowed at least four earned runs. McHugh can be a dominant strikeout pitcher when he's on his game, and he'll try to rebounds when he starts against these very same Orioles Tuesday, June 2.
Wed, 27 May 2015 18:19:39 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Rasmus ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is a GPP-only option on FantasyScore. Rasmus has plenty of power in his bat, but his poor average can lead to plenty of nights with zero fantasy points.
Wed, 27 May 2015 18:15:15 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Gattis ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) is on a four-game hit streak, during which he is 8-for 17. FantasyScore owners can consider Gattis against right-handed pitchers while he rides out this hot streak.
Wed, 27 May 2015 13:25:51 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Marisnick ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) appears to be out of the lineup to give other players a chance to play in the field. Tucker ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) has been warming up as of late, so Marisnick's playing time may be running out.
Wed, 27 May 2015 10:05:51 -0700
Fantasy Tip: It seems like Altuve ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) has very similar numbers against every other team, too. He will continue to be one of the safest second baseman picks at FantasyScore.
Wed, 27 May 2015 09:58:27 -0700
Houston Astros OF Colby Rasmus is 10-for-27 with seven extra-base hits in his career against Baltimore Orioles SP Ubaldo Jimenez, and the two face each other Wednesday, May 27. However, Rasmus is also hitless in his last 11 at-bats, with nine strikeouts.
Fantasy Tip: Rasmus ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) embodies the risk/reward tag today at FantasyScore against Jimenez in Baltimore.
Tue, 26 May 2015 17:43:48 -0700
Houston Astros 1B Chris Carter is hitting a home run in every 21.7 at-bats this season, which is more than the 13.7 at-bats he needed last season to hit a home run. Carter's home run rate was the best among qualified hitters in 2014.
Fantasy Tip: Carter ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) has struggled with his batting average again this season but does have seven home runs. He is hitting .170 at the plate so far in 2015. Carter has some value because of his power potential but is a risky option on FantasyScore because of his batting average.
Tue, 26 May 2015 15:04:45 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Oberholtzer ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) allowed one earned run in three innings in his only start this year after posting an ERA of 4.39 in 2014. He's not necessarily guaranteed a spot in the starting rotation when he's ready, either, so his fantasy value in AL-only leagues remains uncertain.
Tue, 26 May 2015 13:21:28 -0700
Houston Astros OF Jake Marisnick is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 26. OF Colby Rasmus is shifting over to center field and is hitting fifth in the batting order against Baltimore Orioles SP Chris Tillman.
Fantasy Tip: Left-handed hitters have a slash line of .312/.391/.416 off of Tillman this year, and he enters with a 6.10 ERA in eight starts. Rasmus ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is typically a dice roll at FantasyScore, but he does have some upside tonight as a value pick against a struggling pitcher at a hitter-friendly venue.
