Milwaukee Brewers news, rumors and injuries

Fantasy Tip: Lucroy has a limited no-trade clause, so he might have to waive that in order to get his wish of a trade away from a rebuilding club. Even if Lucroy stays put, disregard his injury-plagued 2015. He is an excellent rebound candidate and remains one of the top options at a thin position.

Fantasy Tip: Lucroy registered just 415 plate appearances last season due to injuries, but he is a nice bounce-back candidate to target in the middle rounds of drafts. During the 2013 and 2014 seasons, Lucroy returned a .291/.357/.460 slash line with an average of 66 runs, 16 home runs and 76 RBI.

Milwaukee Brewers OF Ryan Braun (back) is behind schedule in his recovery from back surgery and will not be 100% when spring training begins. Braun said he hopes to be ready for the start of the regular season.
Fantasy Tip: Braun likely will take things slow during spring training but has time to prepare for opening day. He is coming off a solid 2015 where he hit .285 with 25 home runs and 84 RBI. Braun probably will be selected in one of the earlier rounds of drafts this season.

Milwaukee Brewers general manager David Stearns said the trade of SS Jean Segura to the Arizona Diamondbacks will have no impact on the timetable of minor league SS Orlando Arcia. He is still expected to begin the 2016 season at Class AAA Colorado Springs.
Fantasy Tip: The 21-year-old Arcia is considered to be one of the top prospects in baseball and he should be monitored in all dynasty and keeper leagues. He batted .307 with 37 doubles, eight home runs, 69 RBIs and 25 stolen bases in 129 games for Class AA Mobile last season. Jonathan Villar appears to be the favorite to serve as the Opening Day shortstop for Milwaukee but he is not a great fantasy option.

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Chase Anderson, 2B Aaron Hill, SS Isan Diaz and cash were acquired by the Milwaukee Brewers Saturday, Jan. 30. The Brewers sent SS Jean Segura and P Tyler Wagner to the Diamondbacks.
Fantasy Tip: Anderson will benefit slightly from leaving Chase Field, where he had a 4.56 ERA at home last season. He was shelled in his only start in Miller Park, but he remains an option to round out your fantasy rotation. Hill will be 34 in March, and he has begun declining with a .230-6-39 line last year. A change of scenery could serve him well, though, and he's worth consideration for your MI spot.

Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell said OF Ryan Braun (back) will be eased back into action during spring training, even though he has not experienced any setbacks since undergoing surgery to repair a herniated disc in his lower back.
Fantasy Tip: The 32-year-old Braun hit .285 with 25 home runs, 84 RBIs and 24 stolen bases in 140 games last season. He should be viewed as a low-end OF1 or high-end OF2 in traditional fantasy leagues, although he carries injury risks.

Fantasy Tip: Liriano is a decent prospect that could excel with the Brewers in a year or two. He hit .292 with 14 home runs, 64 RBI and 18 stolen bases in two minor league stops with the Padres last year. Keep an eye on him in keeper leagues. Seidenberger is a project and wasn't even among Milwaukee's top-30 prospects.

Fantasy Tip: It's all about health with Braun now at age 32. He still has the potential to steal 30 bases in a full season, and the fact he put up 24 stolen bases last year was a good sign. Braun is a low-end first outfielder and top-tier second fly catcher with injury risks for fantasy owners.

Fantasy Tip: Injuries curbed Lucroy's 2015 season and limited him to just 415 plate appearances. Over the previous two seasons, he returned a .291/.357/.460 slash line with an average of 66 runs, 16 home runs and 76 RBI, which is solid production for a backstop. He is a mid-round target with the upside to be a top-three contributor at the catcher position entering the 2016 season.

Milwaukee Brewers C Jonathan Lucroy has added neck-strengthening drills to his offseason workouts in order to avoid another concussion like the one that ended his 2015 season early. Lucroy eventually passed the concussion protocol and said he has had no setbacks this winter. "I feel great," Lucroy said. "I feel a lot stronger than I've been in a long time."
Fantasy Tip: Lucroy had a down year by his standards in 2015, hitting .264 with only seven home runs and 43 RBI in an injury-shortened season (103 games). For that reason he'll likely come at a discount in 2016, and if he can stay healthy all year should be a great asset at the catching position. A trade to a contending club would make him even more attractive.

Milwaukee Brewers C Jonathan Lucroy would prefer to be traded to a contender entering the season. "As a competitor, I'm not OK with rebuilding; I'm not OK with losing," he said. "You don't want a player to be OK with that."
Fantasy Tip: Lucroy has a valid point, as it's hard to envision the Brewers finishing somewhere above fourth-place this season in the extremely competitive NL Central. The veteran catcher is coming off a disappointing campaign, after being limited to 103 games due to injury, but still may have something to offer after he was an All-Star just two seasons ago.

Fantasy Tip: Peralta had a miserable season, but he still has a lot of potential as an NL-only starter. Segura quietly had 50 RBIs and 25 steals. He's an upper-middle SS option that could be undervalued. Smith was dynamite in relief and could figure into the closing mix in camp. Keep an eye on the lefty.

Fantasy Tip: Lucroy hit just .264 with seven home runs and 43 RBIs in an injury-plagued 2015 campaign. As a result, the 29-year-old backstop's real-life and fantasy values are not at their peak, although he is a prime candidate for a bounceback season. Lucroy could fall to the middle rounds of drafts for NL-only and deep mixed leagues, making him a steal for owners who are fortunate enough to select him at that point.
Wed, 06 Jan 2016 15:23:22 -0800
Fantasy Tip: Carter has the upside to hit 30 home runs and drive in 80 RBI, which makes him a great late-round option, if you're power starved. The issue is Carter owns a .218/.312/.459 slash line over the past three seasons. He will also have to play first base in the National League, which could prove to be another factor limiting his upside and could potentially limit his playing time to a degree.

Free-agent OF Eric Young Jr. (Mets) has signed a minor-league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers. Young can make $1 million if he is brought to the parent club before spring training concludes or the regular season gets underway.
Fantasy Tip: Don't go out of your way to draft Young late in NL or mixed leagues, but keep an eye on how he does in spring training. If he can regain the 40-50 steal capability he had a few years ago, Young's fantasy value could rise.
