Minnesota Twins news, rumors and injuries

Fantasy Tip: Nunez has been surprising effective for fantasy owners in AL-only leagues and deeper mixed play, hitting five homers in May and six in June.

Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco allowed seven runs and nine hits over 5 2/3 innings in a second straight loss Wednesday, June 29, against the Chicago White Sox. He also walked one and struck out five, throwing 62 of his 95 pitches for strikes.
Fantasy Tip: Nolasco's ERA (5.31) and WHIP (1.38) are slightly above his career averages, and he should only be trusted in the deepest of AL-only fantasy leagues if you're desperate for starting pitching.

Minnesota Twins SS Brian Dozier extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a double in the sixth inning Wednesday, June 29, against the Chicago White Sox. He has managed at least one extra-base hit in a franchise-record 10 straight games.
Fantasy Tip: Dozier is on quite the role, and has been a bright spot in an otherwise bleak season in Minneapolis. He is a must-start in all fantasy formats and DFS play while running hot.

Minnesota Twins 1B Byung Ho Park (rest) is not in the lineup Wednesday, June 29. SS Eduardo Escobar gets a start instead at shortstop and will bat seventh opposite Chicago White Sox SP James Shields. 3B Trevor Plouffe is serving as the designated hitter, while SS Eduardo Escobar is shifting over to third base.
Fantasy Tip: Park should return to Minnesota's lineup after a day off. Escobar recently had a seven-game hitting streak throughout the middle of June, so owners might want to consider him in daily formats for his potential value against a very erratic starting pitcher.

Fantasy Tip: Sano should return to the Twins sooner than later, and the doubleheader Thursday could be the final games of his rehab stint, so stay tuned for updates on that front. With approximately half the season left, look for Sano to approach or exceed 15 home runs and 45 RBI from here out. He should be owned in all formats.

Minnesota Twins SP Kyle Gibson allowed just five hits and a walk with a season-best seven strikeouts over seven scoreless innings to pick up his first win of the season Tuesday, June 28, against the Chicago White Sox.
Fantasy Tip: Gibson has struggled all season, posting a 5.12 ERA and 1.49 WHIP. He has just two quality starts over his past five outings and is still worth only a roster space in the deepest of AL-only fantasy leagues at this point.

Minnesota Twins 2B Brian Dozier went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs and four RBIs Tuesday, June 28, against the Chicago White Sox in a 4-0 win. He has hit safely in 10 consecutive games, and he has four home runs over the past three games.
Fantasy Tip: Dozier is hitting .439 (18-for-41) with 10 runs scored, five homers and 11 RBIs during his impressive 10-game run. He is an obvious must-start in all seasonal fantasy leagues and DFS play while running hot.

Fantasy Tip: Hughes was already likely to miss most of the rest of the season, and now it's official that he's done until 2017. He wasn't useable even in AL-only leagues with his 5.95 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 5.2 K/9 and should be left undrafted in mixed leagues in 2017.

Minnesota Twins 2B Brian Dozier extended his hitting streak to nine games against the New York Yankees on Sunday, June 26, going 2-for-4 with a two-run shot for his second homer in as many days. Dozier, who moved into the fourth spot of the order on the same day (June 17) he started the hitting streak, is batting .405 (15-for-37) with three home runs and seven RBI over that span.
Fantasy Tip: On a team note, Dozier's blast was the only one of Minnesota's six homers that wasn't of the solo variety. On an individual note, the 2015 All-Star is hitting .344 with five home runs and 15 RBI in June after batting .202 with five homers and 17 RBI combined over his first two months. Since Dozier is performing like a top-five fantasy second baseman this month, he needs to be in all lineups.

Fantasy Tip: Nunez is enjoying a dream season thus far for the last-place Twins, batting .312 with 10 home runs, 29 RBI and 17 steals. He doubled his previous career high in homers with today's blast, is one RBI short of tying his personal best in RBI and five stolen bases shy of matching his career best in that category as well. Nunez, Jose Altuve and Melvin Upton Jr. are the only three players with as many as 10 homers and 15 steals already. In case you hadn't already guessed, he's a must-start.

Minnesota Twins SP Tyler Duffey enjoyed perhaps the finest of his 22 career starts against the New York Yankees on Sunday, June 26, allowing one run on two hits and no walks while striking out eight over as many innings for his first win since May 25.
Fantasy Tip: To put this outing into some perspective, Duffey hadn't even come close to a quality start since tossing seven scoreless innings against the Cleveland Indians on May 15. The eight innings are a career high and the eight strikeouts are one short of another personal best. Despite the dominant outing, Duffey should remain on fantasy benches as he faces the Texas Rangers at home on Saturday.

Minnesota Twins OF Miguel Sano (hamstring) likely will play three or four more rehab games with Class AAA Rochester, according to manager Paul Molitor. Sano is working on his timing and pitch recognition during the rehab games.
Fantasy Tip: It appears that Sano likely will return within the next week and should be a regular member of the starting lineup. Sano is a solid source of power for fantasy owners and should be a starter in most leagues.

Minnesota Twins INF Trevor Plouffe (groin) is back in the starting lineup versus New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi Sunday, June 26, batting fifth and playing first base. In addition, C Juan Centeno will start behind the plate and hit eighth, while OF Danny Santana starts in center field and bats ninth. 1B Byung-ho Park, C Kurt Suzuki and OF Byron Buxton are receiving the day off.
Fantasy Tip: DFS players may want to wait a game or two before using Plouffe again after he missed several days due to a strained right groin. Centeno and Santana have not been swinging the bat well recently and should be viewed strictly as desperation sources of salary cap relief.
Sun, 26 Jun 2016 07:36:29 -0700
New York Yankees DH Alex Rodriguez is not in the starting lineup Sunday, June 26. OF Aaron Hicks draws into the lineup in right field and is batting ninth against Minnesota Twins SP Tyler Duffey Sunday.
Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez has been better in June with 12 RBI, but his .677 OPS doesn't move the fantasy needle enough to warrant starting him outside of deep mixed and AL-only leagues. He's barely holding off being a fantasy afterthought. Hicks can't gain any traction at the dish (.217/.272/.329 slash line for the season), which limits him to being a depth option in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues. However, he has upside and is worthy of consideration in daily contests when he lands in a favorable matchup. It likely isn't the spot Sunday, though.

Minnesota Twins 2B Brian Dozier provided his team's only offense on Saturday, June 25, lifting a fastball from New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda into the left-field stands for his ninth homer of the season - a solo shot.
Fantasy Tip: Dozier is 13-for-33 (.394) with three doubles, two triples and two home runs during his hitting streak, which has increased his average from .227 to .248, which would be a career-high mark for him. The 29-year-old is still well off the pace he set last year in homers (28), but owners will take this version of Dozier after he spent about half of April and May batting below the Mendoza line. He needs to be started in all leagues now until he cools off.
