Mets | David Wright avoiding DL for now

Tue, 31 May 2016 14:09:46 -0700

New York Mets 3B David Wright (neck) received an injection in his neck Tuesday, May 31, which will allow him to avoid the disabled list for now. However, there's no guarantee he'll return to the starting lineup anytime soon. Wright hasn't played since last Friday and was diagnosed with a herniated disc in his neck. The soonest Wright could play would be Friday, June 3. If he can't play by then, he'll likely land on the DL.

Fantasy Tip: Given Wright's long history of injuries, especially in his back and neck, it's more likely that he'll land on the DL eventually than avoid it. Plan for that if you own him. In most mixed leagues, he probably isn't worth the hassle of stashing. Wilmer Flores should continue to see everyday at-bats either at third base or first, and he's worth owning in NL-only leagues for his power and multiposition eligibility.

Mets | David Wright remains out

Tue, 31 May 2016 13:33:35 -0700

New York Mets 3B David Wright (neck) remains out of the starting lineup Tuesday, May 31. SS Wilmer Flores is at the hot corner and is batting seventh against Chicago White Sox SP Mat Latos.

Fantasy Tip: With Wright likely headed for the DL, Flores should continue to see regular at-bats and can be useful for infield depth in deeper mixed and NL-only leagues for his pop. However, he doesn't hold much daily value hitting low in the lineup tonight. Wright appears headed for another long absence due to injury and can be dropped in the majority of leagues.

Mets | Noah Syndergaard available in relief

Tue, 31 May 2016 13:17:02 -0700

New York Mets SP Noah Syndergaard is "most likely" to pitch in the seventh, eighth or ninth inning Tuesday, May 31, after only throwing 33 pitches before he was ejected in his last start. Syndergaard is scheduled to face the Miami Marlins Friday, June 3.

Fantasy Tip: Thor threw behind Chase Utley in his last outing over the weekend and was ejected immediately without a warning. It's unclear if he'll face a suspension by the league, but for now plan to move forward as usual and employ him in all starting lineups against the Fish later this week.

Mets | Travis d'Arnaud nearing rehab games

Tue, 31 May 2016 10:23:27 -0700

New York Mets C Travis d'Arnaud (shoulder) is nearing his first game action since April 25, and he could start a rehab assignment this weekend. C Kevin Plawecki is likely to go down to Class AAA Las Vegas when d'Arnaud returns from the disabled list, as Plawecki is hitting only .196/.295/.272 in 105 plate appearances. C Rene Rivera has drawn positive reviews and is batting .148/.281/.259.

Fantasy Tip: D'Arnaud's injury history is frustrating and unbecoming to his fantasy owners, but he must remain stashed in all formats because of his offensive upside. D'Arnaud hit .268 with 12 home runs and 41 RBI last year for the Mets.

Mets | James Loney to start Tuesday

Tue, 31 May 2016 07:31:17 -0700

New York Jets 1B James Loney will start against Chicago White Sox SP Mat Latos Tuesday, May 31, according to manager Terry Collins.

Fantasy Tip: Loney has a line-drive stroke but minimal power. He had nine home runs and 69 RBI while hitting .290 in 155 games for the Rays in 2015. He won't play every day in New York and is a stopgap at first base until Lucas Duda is healthy, so he'll mainly carry value in NL-only leagues as corner infield insurance.

Mets | Neil Walker hits 12th home run

Mon, 30 May 2016 15:06:48 -0700

New York Mets 2B Neil Walker went 1-for-3 with his 12th home run of the season Monday, May 30, against the Chicago White Sox. He finished with the game's only run scored and RBI, and he also drew a walk.

Fantasy Tip: Not only did his solo blast pace teammate Matt Harvey to a much-needed win, it gives Walker almost as many homers as he had all of last year (16) in 543 at-bats. The former Pittsburgh Pirate has been a wonderful addition to the Mets lineup this season, and his owners should just keep firing him up every time he's in the batting order.

Mets | Matt Harvey rebounds, tosses gem

Mon, 30 May 2016 14:58:10 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey bounced back in a big way with his performance Monday, May 30, against the Chicago White Sox. The right-hander tossed seven shutout innings, scattering just two hits and one walk. He also struck out six.

Fantasy Tip: It turns out Harvey was right in not wanting to have his Memorial Day assignment skipped, as this was actually his best outing of the season. It's a huge step in the right direction for The Dark Knight, who had surrendered five runs or more in each of his past three starts. This should at least restore some of his confidence, which will allow him to return to his usual form. Owners who benched him might want to get Harvey back in starting lineups right away.

Mets | David Wright will visit doctor

Mon, 30 May 2016 14:32:27 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Mets 3B David Wright (neck) has a herniation in a disk in his neck and is scheduled to see a doctor Tuesday, May 31.

"Yes, I'm concerned about David Wright possibly (going on the disabled list)," manager Terry Collins said Monday, May 30. "The condition he's been playing in and the condition he's in right now, yeah, I'm concerned about it. I know this guy plays with a lot of discomfort. He always has. When he can't play, he's hurt."

Fantasy Tip: Wright's fantasy stock is plummeting, and it isn't out of the question to act upon this news now and find a replacement. The veteran third baseman isn't worth stashing in the majority of seasonal leagues, especially since he has missed substantial time in five of the past six seasons. Look for Eric Campbell, Wilmer Flores and Ty Kelly to receive some looks at the hot corner, but they're all poor fantasy options.

Mets | David Wright may go on DL

Mon, 30 May 2016 09:52:47 -0700

New York Mets 3B David Wright (neck) may need to be placed on the 15-day disabled list because of his neck injury, according to manager Terry Collins.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation over the next few days to see if Wright will go on the disabled list. Eric Campbell, Wilmer Flores and Ty Kelly are all options to see time at third base while Wright is sidelined but none of the players are strong fantasy options.

Mets | Four starters sitting for Mets

Mon, 30 May 2016 07:44:52 -0700

New York Mets OF Curtis Granderson, OF Michael Conforto, 3B Eric Campbell and C Kevin Plawecki are not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Jose Quintana Monday, May 30. OF Juan Lagares will start in center field and is batting first in the lineup. SS Wilmer Flores will start at first base and is batting fifth. OF Alejandro De Aza will start in left field and is batting sixth, while C Rene Rivera will start at catcher and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Lagares has four hits in his last three games and has recorded two home runs and four RBI during that span. He should be a sleeper option in some daily fantasy leagues. De Aza, Flores and Rivera are all hitting under .200 this season and probably can be avoided by owners.

Mets | David Wright remains sidelined

Mon, 30 May 2016 07:24:48 -0700

New York Mets 3B David Wright (neck) is not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Jose Quintana Monday, May 30. 3B Ty Kelly will start at third base and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Kelly has gone hitless in eight at-bats since joining the Mets a week ago and should be avoided in all fantasy leagues.

Mets | James Loney may be activated Tuesday

Mon, 30 May 2016 06:03:54 -0700

New York Mets 1B James Loney likely will be added to the 25-man roster Tuesday, May 31, according to manager Terry Collins.

Fantasy Tip: Loney should see playing time against right-handed pitchers while Lucas Duda is sidelined. He probably should only be used in NL-only leagues at this point because he does not have much power.

Mets | Noah Syndergaard available in relief

Sun, 29 May 2016 18:26:57 -0700

New York Mets SP Noah Syndergaard could be used out of the bullpen Tuesday, May 31, but will still make his next start Friday, June 3, according to manager Terry Collins.

Fantasy Tip: Syndergaard was tossed early in his last start, so an appearance out of the bullpen would essentially count as his side work. In season-long leagues, it doesn’t hurt to start him Tuesday and hope he grabs a couple of strikeouts in relief.

Mets | Michael Conforto not playing Sunday

Sun, 29 May 2016 15:08:23 -0700

New York Mets OF Michael Conforto is not in the starting lineup against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday, May 29. OF Juan Lagares will play in center and bat fifth against Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw.

Fantasy Tip: Conforto is on the bench to start Sunday night because of the matchup against the lefty Kershaw. Put him on your bench for the night. Lagares is a .333-2-4 hitter in May but does not play often enough to merit serious fantasy value or consideration.

Mets | David Wright out again

Sun, 29 May 2016 14:58:33 -0700

New York Mets 3B David Wright (neck) is out of the starting lineup Sunday, May 29, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Wright's replacement, SS Wilmer Flores (hamstring), is returning to the lineup and will bat sixth against Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw. Wright may be unavailable on Monday, May 30, as well.

Fantasy Tip: Right now the team is worried about the DL for Wright, so this injury could turn out to be a serious one. Stash Wright away in all but shallow leagues. Flores may be worth monitoring in daily leagues if he can hit well, because he and Ty Kelly might replace Wright in the lineup for a while.
