Mets | Michael Conforto not playing Sunday

Sun, 29 May 2016 15:08:23 -0700

New York Mets OF Michael Conforto is not in the starting lineup against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday, May 29. OF Juan Lagares will play in center and bat fifth against Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw.

Fantasy Tip: Conforto is on the bench to start Sunday night because of the matchup against the lefty Kershaw. Put him on your bench for the night. Lagares is a .333-2-4 hitter in May but does not play often enough to merit serious fantasy value or consideration.

Mets | David Wright out again

Sun, 29 May 2016 14:58:33 -0700

New York Mets 3B David Wright (neck) is out of the starting lineup Sunday, May 29, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Wright's replacement, SS Wilmer Flores (hamstring), is returning to the lineup and will bat sixth against Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw. Wright may be unavailable on Monday, May 30, as well.

Fantasy Tip: Right now the team is worried about the DL for Wright, so this injury could turn out to be a serious one. Stash Wright away in all but shallow leagues. Flores may be worth monitoring in daily leagues if he can hit well, because he and Ty Kelly might replace Wright in the lineup for a while.

Mets | Mechanical flaw detected with Matt Harvey

Sun, 29 May 2016 07:09:48 -0700

The New York Mets have reportedly detected a mechanical flaw with SP Matt Harvey's delivery. He stops and pauses with his arm during the windup, which causes him to lose command.

Fantasy Tip: Harvey is still scheduled to make his next start against the Chicago White Sox Monday, May 30, and he is going through the worst season of his MLB career. The 27-year-old right-hander is 3-7 with a 6.08 ERA and a 1.69 WHIP in 10 starts, with eight home runs allowed over just 53 1/3 innings. He should be avoided in all fantasy formats for now.

Mets | Lucas Duda to miss at least four weeks

Sun, 29 May 2016 07:01:55 -0700

New York Mets 1B Lucas Duda (back) is expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks because of a stress fracture in his lower back, according to general manager Sandy Alderson.

Fantasy Tip: Newly-acquired James Loney should see the bulk of the playing time at first base against right-handed pitching, with Wilmer Flores and Eric Campbell seeing most of the action versus lefties. All three of these players should be viewed as NL-only fantasy options, with Loney having the most value.

Mets | Noah Syndergaard tossed

Sat, 28 May 2016 18:05:55 -0700

New York Mets SP Noah Syndergaard was ejected after throwing behind Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Chase Utley Saturday, May 28. New York Mets manager Terry Collins was also tossed.

Fantasy Tip: Syndergaard no doubt burned his owners in daily formats, but it's tough to complain too much given the incredible season he is putting together.

Mets | Asdrubal Cabrera hitting second on Saturday

Sat, 28 May 2016 14:45:27 -0700

New York Mets SS Asdrubal Cabrera is hitting second Saturday, May 28, against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera has hit second in the past couple games for the Mets, and over the last nine games he has 10 hits. With a .282 average, Cabrera should get mid-range consideration for your fantasy lineup.

Mets | David Wright out Saturday

Sat, 28 May 2016 14:33:08 -0700

New York Mets 3B David Wright (neck) has neck issues and will not start Saturday, May 28, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. 3B Ty Kelly takes Wright's place and bats seventh against Dodgers SP Kenta Maeda.

Fantasy Tip: Do not pick up Kelly in DFS leagues. He's worth stashing away in keeper/dynasty leagues for his future production, but Kelly is struggling in his callup. As for Wright, wait and see what this latest injury does to his availability.

Mets | James Loney acquired from San Diego

Sat, 28 May 2016 11:41:14 -0700

The New York Mets have acquired 1B James Loney from the San Diego Padres, in exchange for cash considerations.

Fantasy Tip: The 32-year-old Loney was batting .342 with two home runs and 28 RBI over 158 at-bats for Class AAA El Paso in the Padres' organization after being let go by the Tampa Bay Rays during spring training. He appears likely to receive the bulk of the playing time at first base against right-handed pitching while Lucas Duda (back) is on the disabled list. Loney's fantasy appeal is limited to NL-only fantasy leagues due to his lack of power.

Mets | Jacob deGrom tosses gem Friday

Fri, 27 May 2016 19:22:52 -0700

New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom allowed one run on three hits over seven innings in a no-decision over the Los Angeles Dodgers Friday, May 27, with three walks and seven strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: DeGrom pitched well enough to earn the victory Friday but was let down by his bullpen. He has 14 strikeouts in his last 10 innings and should be started with confidence in all formats during his next outing against the Chicago White Sox Wednesday, June 1.

Mets | Juan Lagares homers Friday

Fri, 27 May 2016 19:16:37 -0700

New York Mets OF Juan Lagares hit a three-run homer in a victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers Friday, May 27.

Fantasy Tip: Although Lagares is known as a defensive-minded player, he is batting .300 through his first 70 at-bats of 2016. He should be viewed as a source of productive cap relief in DFS.

Mets | Michael Conforto won't play first base

Fri, 27 May 2016 18:16:34 -0700

New York Mets OF Michael Conforto will not be used at first base while 1B Lucas Duda (back) remains sidelined, even though he has been spotted fielding grounders at the position recently, according to manager Terry Collins. "He is not a first baseman," Collins said. "We here are not here to take a kid who has never played first base at the major-league level - and in a situation where we're expected to win a lot - and put an inexperienced guy in a tough position."

Fantasy Tip: The 23-year-old Conforto is batting .270 with eight home runs and 24 RBI through 148 at-bats but is not considered a great defensive player. INF Eric Campbell has seen most of the action at first base in the last few days, although INF Wilmer Flores (hamstring) will probably see the bulk of the playing time there once he returns from the disabled list. Flores should be grabbed in NL-only fantasy leagues if he is still available.

Mets | NYM looking for help at first base

Fri, 27 May 2016 17:03:29 -0700

With New York Mets 1B Lucas Duda (back) sidelined indefinitely, general manager Sandy Alderson plans to explore external options at first base. INF Eric Campbell has started four consecutive games at the position and INF Wilmer Flores (hamstring) could also see time there once he is activated from the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Campbell and Flores should be viewed as NL-only fantasy options at this point, with Flores having more upside because of his power potential and positional versatility. The Mets could consider trading for a player such as Atlanta Braves INF/OF Kelly Johnson, who spent time with the club last season, or pursuing San Diego Padres minor league 1B James Loney, who can opt out of his deal if a job is available at the MLB level.

Mets | Matt Harvey tosses modified side session

Fri, 27 May 2016 14:50:02 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey had hitters in the batter's box during his side session Friday, May 27. He is still scheduled to face the Chicago White Sox Monday, May 30.

"His sides have been out of sight," manager Terry Collins said Friday. "It's when the games have started that there's some things that are getting changed (mechanically). So we just wanted to put some hitters in there. Basically, it's a side (session) with a hitter in the batter's box, because there are some things we're seeing when the hitters are in there that need to get fixed."

Fantasy Tip: Harvey has been a mess on the hill, and while there is plenty of reason to be optimistic about a bounce back, he cannot be started with confidence in any fantasy format. Despite his career-best 24.4 soft-hit percentage, Harvey has a career-high .374 BABIP, so there is some tough luck baked into his current struggles. Testing the trade market as a buyer and seller isn't a bad idea.

Mets | No Michael Conforto vs. lefty

Fri, 27 May 2016 13:53:27 -0700

New York Mets OF Michael Conforto is not in the starting lineup against Los Angeles Dodgers left-handed SP Julio Urias Friday, May 27. OF Juan Lagares draws into center field and is batting sixth. OF Yoenis Cespedes shifts over to left field and is hitting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: Lagares isn't terrible with the lumber, but he's much better with the glove. He's hitting .273 but has very little power upside. That makes him not all that attractive as a low-priced flyer in daily games, especially facing a young pitching phenom in his major league debut. Cespedes should be started with confidence everywhere.

Mets | Asdrubal Cabrera returns to action

Fri, 27 May 2016 13:46:51 -0700

New York Mets SS Asdrubal Cabrera (back) is returning to the starting lineup and is hitting second against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Julio Urias Friday, May 27.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera didn't even see one at-bat before being removed for back spasms, but he's back in there tonight, so his condition must not be serious. He's facing a teenage pitching phenom making his major league debut tonight. Cabrera has been solid against lefties in the year (.310/.356/.357) but has zero home runs. Hitting second, he's worth midrange consideration at shortstop Friday night.
