Fantasy Tip: Reyes is building up his stamina and trying to get back in game shape for a return to the majors. Once he is able to return, likely right after the All-Star break, he will be worth a look in most NL-only fantasy leagues and some mixed formats. He still could hit for high average, steal bases and log plenty of runs scored if he sticks at the top of the Mets lineup.

Cuban 3B Yulieski Gourriel worked out for the New York Mets Monday, June 27, and general manager Sandy Alderson, special assistant J.P. Ricciardi, international scouting director Chris Becerra, pro scouring director Jim D'Aloia and scout Roy Smith attended the workout. A timetable for Gourriel's signing is unknown. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees and Houston Astros are also interested.
Fantasy Tip: Gourriel is a promising international prospect, but he'll need to develop more power to be attractive at the major league level at the hot corner. Keep an eye on him in single-universe and dynasty leagues moving forward.

Fantasy Tip: Wheeler recently experienced a slight setback in his recovery from Tommy John surgery, so this is positive news to hear regarding the hard-throwing right-hander. Although it doesn't look like he'll be returning as quick as initially anticipated coming into the campaign, Wheeler still carries a significant amount of potential, and has the ability to be a possible difference-maker for fantasy teams in the final months. Unfortunately, though, it's still unknown when he can come back to the Mets.

Updating previous reports, New York Mets SP Steven Matz (elbow) will discuss whether to have surgery on his elbow Tuesday, June 28. If he has an operation now, it would be six weeks before he'd be able to resume throwing.
Fantasy Tip: Pitchers often pitch through bone spurs, but the Mets may want Matz to address the issue now if he's unable to pitch through the pain in his left elbow. Either way, Matz owners should be very concerned, as he may lose his effectiveness if he pitches through the issue. Make plans for the worst if you own the young lefty.

Fantasy Tip: Lagares hasn't started a game in the outfield in weeks, but it looks like he's getting closer. Even so, he's not really an option outside of the deepest of the leagues, as while he does offer a decent batting average, the former Gold Glove winner is also very limited when it comes to power numbers and steals. When Lagares is ready to return, that will negatively affect Alejando De Aza and potentially newcomer Brandon Nimmo.

Fantasy Tip: The Mets are considering skipping Matz's next turn against the Nationals on Wednesday, and you should too if you own him in fantasy. Bone spurs aren't a serious issue but they can cause discomfort and may require surgery for Matz eventually. It remains to be seen how the Mets will handle this case, but prepare for the worst if you own Matz.

Fantasy Tip: That's good news that Matz's elbow injury doesn't appear very serious, but the Mets are likely to play it safe and skip his next turn in the rotation Wednesday. Even if Matz does start against the Washington Nationals, it'd be wise to avoid him until he proves he's fully healthy again.

Fantasy Tip: It remains unknown when the Mets will bring him back up to the major league level, but Reyes is expected to start mostly every day at third base and hit leadoff upon his return to Queens. That'll make him fantasy relevant in most every seasonal fantasy league, mainly for his speed. Reyes should be owned everywhere at this point.

New York Mets SS Jose Reyes went 0-for-3 with Class A Brooklyn while playing six innings at third base Sunday, June 26, and hit leadoff. It was his first competitive game in two weeks. Reyes hasn't played anywhere besides middle infield in his professional career. The Mets could use Reyes at third base or even the outfield when he's back in the majors.
Fantasy Tip: Reyes is expected to hit leadoff and will gain third base eligibility, which will make him useful in the majority of fantasy leagues, mainly for his speed. However, keep expectations slightly in check for the 33-year-old who hasn't played since the end of last season, at least initially.

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon allowed one run on six hits in seven innings against the Atlanta Braves Sunday, June 26, but suffered his fourth loss of the season. He struck out two batters and walked one.
Fantasy Tip: Colon has allowed two runs or fewer in each of his last seven starts and has a solid 2.86 ERA this season. He is scheduled to face the Chicago Cubs in his next start, which makes him a risky option in some fantasy leagues.

New York Mets SS Asdrubal Cabrera, OF Curtis Granderson and C Travis d'Arnaud are not in the starting lineup against Atlanta Braves SP Bud Norris Sunday, June 26. INF/OF Kelly Johnson will bat leadoff and play left field, INF Matthew Reynolds will play shortstop and bat second, OF Brandon Nimmo will play right field and bat seventh and C Rene Rivera will start behind the plate and bat eighth.
Fantasy Tip: Reynolds is 7-for-20 with a home run and six RBI during the month of June and is worth considering as a value play for daily fantasy lineups. Nimmo will be making his MLB debut and possesses plenty of upside, so he could be worth taking a flier on in DFS as well. Johnson and Rivera are a combined 1-for-11 versus Norris and should be avoided Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: De Aza is batting just .169 with a home run and five RBI through 89 at-bats and is nothing more than a desperation source of cap relief in daily fantasy games. He will continue to serve as the No. 4 outfielder on the team's depth chart, behind OFs Yoenis Cespedes, Curtis Granderson and Brandon Nimmo.

Fantasy Tip: Despite a 2.67 ERA, deGrom is just 3-4 on the year thanks to a lack of run support. He is still a strong starting option in season-long formats, but his lack of wins hurts his appeal in DFS games.
Sat, 25 Jun 2016 15:04:43 -0700
Fantasy Tip: De Aza could see regular playing time with the demotion of Michael Conforto for the next few days. He's hitting just .176 this season and isn't worth a flyer today against Julio Teheran.

New York Mets SS Jose Reyes will move to the top of the order once he arrives from what is expected to be a short minor-league stint, during which time he is expected to play some third base and perhaps some time in center field. OF Curtis Granderson will move to an RBI spot, according to manager Terry Collins.
Fantasy Tip: The injured David Wright still lead the Mets with three steals - a clear sign New York needs the speed Reyes can provide even if he is no longer in the prime of his career at 33 years old. Since Yoenis Cespedes and Neil Walker will likely occupy the third and fourth spots in the order on a regular basis, Granderson will probably bat fifth or sixth. Regardless, Granderson's average (.219) and RBI total (21) should both benefit from hitting behind Cespedes and Walker.
