New York Mets OF Juan Lagares (thumb) could be activated from the disabled list Friday, July 1, according to general manager Sandy Alderson. His return has been accelerated partly by OF Curtis Granderson's (calf) recent setback involving his right calf strain.
Fantasy Tip: It's looking like Lagares will surely be back at some point this weekend, even if it's not Friday. He's coming back at the right time, too, with Granderson set to miss a little bit of time, which could put the former Gold Glove winner in a favorable position in terms of his fantasy stock. At the same time, he's pretty limited offensively, so owners might want to use caution. His return could also negatively affect Alejandro De Aza and Brandon Nimmo.

Fantasy Tip: Reyes should be owned in all seasonal setups at this point given his stolen base upside. Just keep expectations in check, as he posted an unappealing .274/.310/.378 slash line last year while playing his home games at two great hitter's parks (Rogers Centre and Coors Field).

Fantasy Tip: Make arrangements to be without Granderson over the weekend. Brandon Nimmo and Alejandro De Aza should see regular playing time and receive a boost in fantasy value in the short term. However, Nimmo is the target of preference in cavernous mixed and NL-only setups. With the All-Star break nearing, New York could be very cautious with Granderson to ensure he is healthy for the second half. Stay tuned for updates.

New York Mets OF Curtis Granderson (calf) remains out of the starting lineup Thursday, June 30. OF Brandon Nimmo is starting in right field and is hitting leadoff, while 2B/OF Kelly Johnson starts in left and is batting sixth against Chicago Cubs SP John Lackey.
Fantasy Tip: Nimmo has plenty of upside and should be considered in NL-only and cavernous mixed leagues with regular playing time in New York's outfield. He doesn't have a ton of fantasy upside in DFS hitting leadoff, though. Johnson is a journeyman utility player that has limited offensive upside at this point of his career. He's a deep DFS sleeper tonight.

Fantasy Tip: Verrett was making a spot start because SP Steven Matz (elbow) had his scheduled start pushed back one day. Expect the 26-year-old right-hander to stick around as a long reliever for now.

New York Mets OF Curtis Granderson (calf) was a late scratch against the Washington Nationals Wednesday, June 29. Mets OF Brandon Nimmo draws into the lineup and will bat eighth, and Mets OF Alejandro De Aza will lead off against Nationals SP Max Scherzer Wednesday.
Fantasy Tip: Sub out Granderson where you can Wednesday, and it's likely best to avoid both De Aza and Nimmo given the daunting matchup against Scherzer. The calf injury has hindered Granderson of late, so check back for updates on his status before locking him into your lineups, especially in daily contests.

New York Mets OF Alejandro De Aza is starting in left field and batting seventh against Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer Wednesday, June 29. OF Brandon Nimmo is not in the starting lineup Wednesday.
Fantasy Tip: This is likely a move to provide the rookie Nimmo a break from facing Scherzer. View De Aza as a desperation fantasy option Wednesday, whereas Nimmo remains a viable depth piece in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues with the fantasy upside to gain traction in shallower setups.

New York Mets 3B Wilmer Flores is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, June 29. INF/OF Kelly Johnson is starting at third base and batting sixth against Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer Wednesday.
Fantasy Tip: Flores has started 21 games in June and owns a solid .306/.370/.444 slash line for the month with 12 RBI. He's in the deep mixed and NL-only conversation as long as he's receiving consistent playing time. While Johnson is a respectable 11-for-35 since joining the Mets, it is a daunting matchup against Scherzer, and no one should fret fading Johnson Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: D'Arnaud is 5-for-22 with three RBI since returning from the disabled list. Remain patient with the impact backstop in all settings, as he has nice power potential from the position. Over the past two years, Rivera has a .180/.223/.279 slash line through 392 plate appearances, so against Scherzer, Rivera is an ill-advised fantasy option.

Fantasy Tip: Granderson has been nursing the nagging calf injury for a few days, so it isn't out of the question to sub him out for a healthy option if you have the luxury in seasonal leagues. He's obviously a significant risk in daily contests because of the matchup and potential aggravation of the calf injury.

New York Mets 3B Jose Reyes is 0-for-9 with Class AA Binghamton but said he'll let the team know when he feels comfortable at the plate and at third base. "My body feels perfect. I just need my timing, and some more action at third base," Reyes said.
Fantasy Tip: Reyes will probably need another week or two on the farm and could be a nice bonus to have for steals after the All-Star break.

New York Mets OF Curtis Granderson (calf) is dealing with a small calf strain, manager Terry Collins said Tuesday, June 28. It's the same reason he sat Sunday, June 26, as he had trouble loosening up after the weather delay.
Fantasy Tip: Granderson should be reserved in all seasonal daily leagues and avoided in DFS until he can officially return and play at least back-to-back games without any setbacks.

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey had his start Tuesday, June 28, against the Washington Nationals halted by an 83-minute rain delay, but not before he gave up one run on four hits and three walks over 3 2/3 innings to fall to 4-10.
Fantasy Tip: Harvey actually has a 2.27 ERA since picking up his last win on May 30, but the Mets have scored a whopping six runs total in his five June starts, so he'll finish this month without a win. Given his team's offensive woes and his bad luck in general this season, owners might want to sit Harvey against the Miami Marlins on Monday.

New York Mets SPs Noah Syndergaard (elbow) and Steven Matz (elbow) are both dealing with bone spurs but will continue to pitch, according to manager Terry Collins. Matz's spurs are worse and will need to be surgically removed eventually, although the Mets are hoping it can wait until the offseason. Surgery will require a three-month recovery timeline. Syndergaard's bone spur is "very small," and 90% of pitchers have something comparable, according to general manager Sandy Alderson. Syndergaard is being treated with anti-inflammatories and won't need offseason surgery. The Mets have assurances from team doctors that Matz can't do more damage by continuing to pitch through his issue. The Mets will monitor Matz on a start-to-start basis to make sure he's not changing his mechanics and compromising his body in another way. Alderson said New York will consider going to a six-man rotation when SP Zack Wheeler (elbow) returns in August.
Fantasy Tip: It's troublesome to see the Mets' young starters deal with elbow concerns, but at least they aren't significant issues. However, at least in the immediate future, that makes both Syndergaard and Matz very risky fantasy starters. Matz is a bigger question mark since his bone spurs are more significant, and the good news with Thor is that his velocity wasn't affected in his start Monday.
Tue, 28 Jun 2016 13:27:51 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Matz will have his start pushed back a day, and Logan Verrett will make a spot start against the Washington Nationals in place of Matz Wednesday, June 29. View both hurlers as risky options, as Matz is pitching with bone spurs in his left elbow against a high-end offense, and Verrett has underwhelming numbers as a starter (4.61 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 7.5 K/9).
