Mets | Jose Reyes a topic of dicussion for Mets

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 15:12:03 -0700

Pending free-agent SS Jose Reyes' (Mets) fit with the New York Mets is being discussed within the organization because the team is optimistic it will be able to sign Reyes Saturday, June 25.

Fantasy Tip: Reyes is worth ownership in the majority of seasonal leagues because of his stolen base prowess. However, he posted an underwhelming .274/.310/.378 slash line last year and played his home games at two great hitter's parks (Rogers Centre and Coors Field). Reyes will also need a rehab stint to catch up to speed, so he might not be back until after the All-Star break.

Mets | Solid velocity for Matt Harvey

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 20:11:19 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey's fastball was clocked in the mid-90s in his start against the Atlanta Braves Thursday, June 23. He allowed two runs on eight hits while striking out three over six innings in a no-decision.

Fantasy Tip: Harvey's recent rebound continued, and he should back in starting lineups across all formats.

Mets | Neil Walker snaps drought

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 19:32:16 -0700

New York Mets 2B Neil Walker snapped a five-game hitless drought, finishing 2-for-2 with a walk in a 4-3 loss to the Atlanta Braves Thursday, June 23.

Fantasy Tip: Walker has decent pop for a middle infielder, and he is worth owning in most mixed leagues.

Mets | Yoenis Cespedes cleared to play

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 13:21:22 -0700

Updating an ongoing story, New York Mets OF Yoenis Cespedes (wrist) was cleared to play Thursday, June 23, but the organization wanted to provide him with a day of rest after receiving a cortisone shot, according to manager Terry Collins.

Fantasy Tip: Cespedes is an excellent outfielder in all fantasy setups, so stash him while he rests his wrist injury. Expect him back sooner than later, which further limits any fleeting value Alejandro De Aza had with Cespedes out.

Mets | A cautious start for Steven Matz Friday

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 13:15:32 -0700

New York Mets SP Steven Matz (elbow) will have his start against the Atlanta Braves approached cautiously Friday, June 24, according to manager Terry Collins.

Fantasy Tip: Matz has battled injuries since debuting in the majors last season, but when on the hill, he delivers. Through his 18 career starts, Matz owns a 2.58 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP and a 8.9 K/9. View him as a No. 2 hurler for your virtual rotation, but he clearly comes with a little more risk than usual Friday.

Mets | Bartolo Colon expected to start Sunday

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 13:01:20 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon (thumb) will throw a bullpen session to test his bruised right thumb Thursday, June 23, and is still expected to start against the Atlanta Braves Sunday, June 26, according to manager Terry Collins.

Fantasy Tip: Colon is having a nice season with a 3.00 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP, but his 56 strikeouts through 81 innings limit his upside. He's a viable own in deep mixed leagues, and this is a nice matchup to start him in all fantasy formats. Just confirm he's over his thumb injury before locking him into lineups.

Mets | Noah Syndergaard will start Monday

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 12:57:20 -0700

Updating an ongoing story, New York Mets SP Noah Syndergaard (elbow) will start against the Washington Nationals Monday, June 27.

Fantasy Tip: Syndergaard is a fantasy ace (2.08 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 10.9 K/9), but you might want to adjust your expectations slightly until he proves his health. View him with slightly more risk than usual for his start against Washington Monday.

Mets | Alejandro De Aza draws into the lineup

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 12:52:46 -0700

New York Mets OF Alejandro De Aza is starting in center field and batting eighth against Atlanta Braves SP Matt Wisler Thursday, June 23.

Fantasy Tip: With Yoenis Cespedes out with a wrist injury, De Aza should see a nice run of playing time in center field. However, at this point, De Aza is nothing more desperation fantasy option in all setups. He sits with a .165/.224/.241 slash line, after all.

Mets | Zack Wheeler suffers setback

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 05:30:35 -0700

New York Mets SP Zack Wheeler (elbow) received a cortisone injection for sensory nerve irritation in his right elbow Wednesday, June 22, but the Mets believe his surgically repaired elbow is sound.

Fantasy Tip: Wheeler's return might creep into August after this setback from Tommy John surgery. He's worth stashing in NL-only leagues.

Mets | Yoenis Cespedes to avoid DL

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 05:30:06 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Mets OF Yoenis Cespedes (wrist) was diagnosed with a mild sprain of his left wrist, but he should avoid the disabled list. He received a cortisone injection that will likely sideline him a couple of days.

Fantasy Tip: Alejandro De Aza could fill in for Cespedes the next couple of days, but he's hitting just .165 this season. De Aza has minimal fantasy appeal, but Cespedes remains a low-end OF1.

Mets | Noah Syndergaard has MRI

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 05:29:45 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Mets SP Noah Syndergaard (elbow) had an MRI reveal no structural damage on his right elbow. He was prescribed anti-inflammatory medication and has been cleared to do his normal work routine. His availability for the start Monday, June 27, is unclear, though.

Fantasy Tip: It's probably safe to say he'll at least be pushed back from his next start, but he appears to have dodged a bullet. Thor has been one of the best pitchers in fantasy this year and remains an SP1 the rest of the way.

Mets | Could Neil Walker play third base?

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 04:55:23 -0700

New York Mets 2B Neil Walker may be shifted to third base for some games in order to free up second base for a possible return of free-agent SS Jose Reyes (Rockies), among other rumors.

Fantasy Tip: The far more credible rumor is Walker playing third would put an established veteran at the hot corner while 3B David Wright recovers. His .257-14-28 line makes Walker a viable fantasy player in all formats, and the added bonus would be increased position eligibility.

Mets | Yoenis Cespedes to visit doctor

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 18:02:12 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Mets OF Yoenis Cespedes (hand, wrist) did not travel with the club for their upcoming series against the Atlanta Braves. He will be examined by team orthopedist Dr. David Altchek.

Fantasy Tip: Cespedes had been playing well prior to getting injured, having reached base in five of his last six plate appearances before exiting Wednesday's game in the sixth inning due to discomfort in his left wrist. He is batting .290 with 18 homers and 44 RBI through 65 games and should remain stashed in all formats. If Cespedes is forced to miss multiple games, expect Alejandro De Aza to see the bulk of the playing time in center field.

Mets | Noah Syndergaard to visit doctor

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 17:29:44 -0700

New York Mets SP Noah Syndergaard (elbow) left his start against the Kansas City Royals Wednesday, June 22, after six innings, because of elbow discomfort. He allowed three runs on eight hits before exiting, with no walks and four strikeouts. The team considers Syndergaard's injury to be mild but he is still scheduled to visit team orthopedist Dr. David Altchek.

Fantasy Tip: Syndergaard's next scheduled start versus the Washington Nationals is in jeopardy Monday, June 27, and either Sean Gilmartin or Logan Verrett could be used to make the spot start if he is unable to pitch. Keep checking back for further updates on his status.

Mets | Noah Syndergaard claims eighth win

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 14:45:55 -0700

New York Mets SP Noah Syndergaard didn't churn out his usual dominant effort in his start Wednesday, June 22, opposite the Kansas City Royals, but it was enough to bump up his record to 8-2. The sophomore right-hander lasted six innings, yielding three runs on eight hits, including a homer. He also struck out four.

Fantasy Tip: Despite picking up the victory, this was far from the trademark Syndergaard performance, and news broke out after the contest that the 23-year-old was experiencing right elbow discomfort, which caused him to leave Citi Field to be examined by the team doctor. His owners should be on high alert right now, hoping that the potential NL All-Star starting pitcher doesn't have to miss any time. This could be a crucial blow to the Mets and fantasy teams everywhere if it turns out Thor lands on the shelf for any amount of time.
