Fantasy Tip: Three strikes and you're out. It's a sad story, but luckily for the Mets, Mejia wasn't exactly in the closer picture entering the 2016 season. Jeurys Familia had 43 saves and a sparkling 1.85 ERA in 2015 and is a top-10 fantasy closer.

New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom said he's open to signing a long-term extension with the club Thursday, Feb. 11. deGrom, who turns 28 in June, could become arbitration-eligible after the 2016 season if he reaches Super-Two status.
Fantasy Tip: deGrom thrust himself into the SP1 range after a monstrous 2016 in which he had 14 wins, a 2.54 ERA, a 0.98 WHIP and 205 K's in 191 innings.

Fantasy Tip: Plawecki hit only .219 with three home runs in 233 at-bats for the Mets last year as Travis d'Arnaud's main backup. Plawecki is a depth piece in NL-only leagues, but his fantasy value could rise if the injury-prone d'Arnaud misses anymore time due to injury.

Fantasy Tip: The journeyman outfielder will provide depth with the organization. Even if he cracks the opening day roster he is nothing more than a reserve for those in deeper NL-only fantasy formats.

Updating previous reports, New York Mets SP Zack Wheeler (elbow) is eyeing a return to the majors around July 1, although general manager Sandy Alderson said there is a slight possibility that he could come back sooner. "it could accelerate a little bit but we feel real comfortable with that," Alderson said.
Fantasy Tip: Wheeler has been throwing on flat ground and is expected to begin throwing off a mound soon. Although he missed the entire 2015 season due to Tommy John surgery, he could be worth a late-round flier in NL-only and cavernous mixed leagues if you can afford the roster space.

Fantasy Tip: Flores has some surprisng pop for a middle infielder (16 homers in 137 games), but a utility role will severely limit his fantasy potential to deep NL-only games.

Fantasy Tip: Familia had an amazing year with a 1.85 ERA and converted 43 of his 48 save chances. He has solidified his spot as a top-end fantasy closer in just one season.

New York Mets OFs Michael Conforto and Alejandro De Aza are expected to be exposed to right field in spring training, according to general manager Sandy Alderson. Alderson doesn't expect OF Yoenis Cespedes to play any right field. Conforto played right field seven times as a freshman in college in 2012 but has mainly played in left. De Aza has appeared for 52 starts in his career in right field. Cespedes could play center field against righties and left field against left-handed pitchers.
Fantasy Tip: The future is bright for the lefty swinging Conforto after he slugged nine home runs in just 56 games in his first taste of major league action. He'll be in a platoon role in the outfield for New York, and he must improve against lefties (.214/.267/.214) before he'll become anything more than a late-round selection in deep mixed leagues.

Fantasy Tip: The team wants to limit Steven Matz's innings, and this will be a way for them to do so. Matz is in the SP3 range with breakout potential. Wheeler is a decent flyer late it drafts.

Fantasy Tip: d'Arnaud's power makes him a midrange catcher option in fantasy.

New York Mets SP Zack Wheeler (elbow), who is currently rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, has altered his arm angle and is hoping for similar success that SP Jacob deGrom found with more downward movement and less stress on his elbow. The Mets have slowed Wheeler down after his surgery and now anticipate a July comeback after a 15-month layoff.
Fantasy Tip: Wheeler is just another one of New York's bright young pitching talents, and he'll be overshadowed now that he's been out since 2014. Starters coming off Tommy John surgery usually require a period of adjustment, so don't be surprised if he's up and down upon his return in the second half. Even then, he might be worth stashing in an NL-only or deep mixed league if you have extra spots.

New York Mets 1B Lucas Duda deserves everyday playing time against left-handed pitchers after he hit .285 with seven home runs against southpaws in 2015 in 123 at-bats, in the opinion of ESPNNewYork.com's Adam Rubin.
Fantasy Tip: Duda is once again a candidate to slug 30 home runs, and his improvements against lefties are a big reason why. However, he's prone to long slumps and is known as a streaky hitter, so be prepared to live with that if you own him.

Fantasy Tip: Through six full seasons in the league, Walker has averaged 67 runs, 16 home runs, 70 RBI and a .273/.338/.433 slash line per year, and more of the same should be expected in his first campaign with the Mets. He is a low-risk option as your starting second baseman in mixed leagues, and he can be scooped up in the late middle rounds.

New York Mets INF Wilmer Flores is expected to be used in a super-utility role during the 2016 season, according to manager Terry Collins, who noted that he is capable of playing all four infield positions.
Fantasy Tip: Flores platooned at shortstop last year with Ruben Tejada, batting .263 with 16 home runs and 59 RBIs in 137 regular-season contests. However, the offseason acquisition of SS Asdrubal Cabrera means that it is uncertain how much playing time Flores will receive while spelling Cabrera, 3B David Wright, 2B Neil Walker and 1B Lucas Duda. His ability to hit for power means he should still be selected in the middle rounds of NL-only fantasy leagues and the later rounds of mixed leagues.

Fantasy Tip: The 33-year-old Wright hit .289 with five home runs and 17 RBIs in 152 at-bats during an injury-plagued 2015 season, including a .297 mark out of the second spot in the batting order. When healthy, he can still be a productive player, especially with the protection surrounding him in the lineup.
