Mets | Wilmer Flores likely done with rehab

Thu, 26 May 2016 10:26:19 -0700

New York Mets 2B Wilmer Flores (hamstring) went 0-for-3 at Class AA Binghamton Thursday, May 26, which likely completes his rehab assignment.

Fantasy Tip: Flores is expected to slot in at first base with Lucas Duda (back) out. He hit 16 homers last season, but he was off to a rough start in '16. Expect him to split time with Eric Campbell and be a matchup play in DFS or a low-end NL-only option.

Mets | Steven Matz extends winning streak

Wed, 25 May 2016 17:37:20 -0700

New York Mets SP Steven Matz (7-1) allowed four hits over eight scoreless innings in a victory over the Washington Nationals Wednesday, May 25, with one walk and seven strikeouts. It was the longest outing of his MLB career.

Fantasy Tip: Matz has won seven consecutive decisions and has posted a 1.13 ERA over this stretch. He should be viewed as a must-start option in all fantasy formats as long as he keeps pitching this well.

Mets | Asdrubal Cabrera not worried about injury

Wed, 25 May 2016 14:57:08 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Mets SS Asdrubal Cabrera (back) said he will be ready to play against the Los Angeles Dodgers Friday, May 27.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera is off to a respectable start with 14 runs, three home runs, 17 RBI and a .283/.335/.392 slash line. He is a low-end option in the majority of leagues, but his full-time at-bats carry plenty of value in deep mixed and NL-only formats. Stay tuned for updates, but it looks like Cabrera should be back Friday.

Mets | Asdrubal Cabrera exits with back spasms

Wed, 25 May 2016 10:49:54 -0700

New York Mets SS Asdrubal Cabrera (back) left the game Wednesday, May 25, with back spasms. SS Matthew Reynolds replaced him.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds is 0-for-6 in his young career, and hit just .238 in 130 at-bats at Class AAA Las Vegas. He's not much of an option in fantasy if Cabrera is out for a stretch.

Mets | Travis d'Arnaud making progress

Wed, 25 May 2016 09:16:15 -0700

New York Mets C Travis d'Arnaud (shoulder) worked out Wednesday, May 25, and is throwing with no issues. He'll start more rigorous workouts Thursday, May 26, according to assistant general manager John Ricco.

Fantasy Tip: D'Arnaud was a breakout candidate at catcher this year, so he's been a big disappointment to his owners with a .196 average and just one RBI in 46 at-bats before his injury. Because of his offensive upside at a weak position, he needs to be stashed in the majority of leagues. Kevin Plawecki has been seeing the majority of starts behind the plate but is weak replacement with a .186/.286/.267 slash line.

Mets | Matt Harvey will make next start

Wed, 25 May 2016 08:07:54 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey will not have his next start skipped, and he's pegged to start Monday, May 30, against the Chicago White Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Harvey is 3-7 with a 6.08 ERA and a 1.69 WHIP. He's borderline unusable right now except in NL-only leagues.

Mets | Matt Harvey yields five runs again

Tue, 24 May 2016 20:33:58 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey once again had an off outing Tuesday, May 24, versus the Washington Nationals. He went five innings, giving up five runs on eight hits, including three home runs. He also walked two and struck out only one.

Fantasy Tip: If there was a positive to take away from this outing, it's that Harvey was actually doing fine in the beginning, before falling victim to the long ball in his last two innings, when the Nats supplied their three dingers off the right-hander. Other than that, his struggles continued, and his recent drop in strikeouts has to be considered alarming. Even so, he's way too talented to simply drop and owners are pretty much forced to ride this out until he can get into a groove again. He'll figure it out.

Mets | David Wright not in Tuesday lineup

Tue, 24 May 2016 12:53:47 -0700

New York Mets 3B David Wright is not in the lineup Tuesday, May 24, against the Washington Nationals. 3B Ty Kelly is batting eighth against Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg. The team has also moved SS Asdrubal Cabrera to the No. 2 spot in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Wright has dealt with back issues in recent games, but this appears to be a normal night out of the starting lineup. Kelly was hitting .391 in the minors at the time of his promotion and may be worth a flyer in DFS leagues Tuesday night. Wait and see how Kelly is used before picking him up in other leagues. As for Cabrera, he has five hits in his last four games and is worth the fantasy risk because of his movement up the lineup.

Mets | New York interested in James Loney

Tue, 24 May 2016 09:25:13 -0700

The New York Mets have "some curiosity" about San Diego Padres 1B James Loney, according to a source. Loney can opt out with Class AAA El Paso for a major league contract. The Mets are not interested in New York Yankees 1B Nick Swisher, who is also in the minors.

Fantasy Tip: Loney has always been a line-drive hitter that can carry a respectable average, but he lacks home runs (career-high 15 home runs back in 2007). He probably would only play first base against right-handed pitchers for the Mets, and he'd be a short-term stopgap with Lucas Duda (back) hurt. If the Mets land him, he'd probably only be attractive to those in NL-only leagues.

Mets | Matt Harvey not backing down

Tue, 24 May 2016 09:14:55 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey was given the option of skipping a rematch with the Washington Nationals this week, but he turned that down. Harvey will start against the Nationals Tuesday, May 24, despite allowing a career-high nine runs in a career-low 2 2/3 innings last Thursday. "I'm not a quitter. I'm not going to just quit and put the ball down. It's a fight. It was good for me to do that," Harvey said.

Fantasy Tip: Harvey's career high in innings last year on the way to a World Series run could be the main culprit for his bad start in 2016. He's sporting a 5.77 ERA heading into Tuesday to go along with a 1.65 WHIP. You'd be wise to hold him out today to see if he can rebound before trusting him in your lineups moving forward.

Mets | Bartolo Colon pitches well

Mon, 23 May 2016 22:06:25 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon allowed one run on five hits in seven innings against the Washington Nationals Monday, May 23, to earn his fourth win of the season. He struck out two batters and walked two during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Colon has pitched well this season and has allowed more than three runs in only one of his 10 starts. He is scheduled to face the Los Angeles Dodgers in his next start and should be a solid starting option in most leagues.

Mets | Yoenis Cespedes, Neil Walker homer

Mon, 23 May 2016 21:59:49 -0700

New York Mets OF Yoenis Cespedes and 2B Neil Walker each went 2-for-4 with one home run and one RBI against the Washington Nationals Monday, May 23.

Fantasy Tip: Cespedes and Walker rank one and two in home runs among the team so far this season and should continue to be in the middle of the lineup. Both players should be starting option in all leagues at this point.

Mets | David Wright drives in three

Mon, 23 May 2016 21:58:11 -0700

New York Mets 3B David Wright 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI against the Washington Nationals Monday, May 23.

Fantasy Tip: Wright has picked up a hit in each of his last four games but is hitting only .225 on the season. He should still be a starting option in most mixed leagues but may not be a great option for owners in daily fantasy leagues.

Mets | Dominic Smith not an option

Mon, 23 May 2016 16:47:42 -0700

New York Mets 1B Dominic Smith, the team's first-round pick in 2013, is not a candidate to be promoted to the major leagues with 1B Lucas Duda (back) injured, according to manager Terry Collins. Smith is only 20 years old and has less than two months of experience at Class AA. 2B Dilson Herrera was also considered for a call-up, but shifting 2B Neil Walker to first base wasn't an option.

Fantasy Tip: Smith should be watched in dynasty and keeper formats for the time being. Smith is hitting .272 (44-for-162) with four home runs and 31 RBI for Class AA Binghamton this year.

Mets | Zack Wheeler getting closer

Mon, 23 May 2016 16:20:31 -0700

New York Mets SP Zack Wheeler (elbow) threw off the slope of a mound Monday, May 23, and should start doing advance bullpen sessions in the next couple of weeks.

Fantasy Tip: The Mets are hoping to have Wheeler enter their rotation July 1 after recovering from Tommy John surgery. Keep expectations in check upon his immediate return, but Wheeler has plenty of upside in the rotation and should be stashed in the majority of seasonal leagues. You'll probably want to avoid him in his first start or two, depending on the matchups.
