Mets | Lucas Duda pulled, but fine

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 13:28:34 -0700

New York Mets 1B Lucas Duda (back) was removed from the game Wednesday, March 25, after being hit by a pitch in the back. However, he was only scheduled to play another half inning, so manager Terry Collins said he removed Duda then.

Fantasy Tip: Being lifted from the game does not appear to be injury related. Duda ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) remains a solid mid-round target in drafts after launching 30 home runs and driving in 92 RBI last season. There are platoon and batting average concerns to keep in mind, too, though. Duda's a nice target for FantasySocre players when he faces a weak right-handed pitcher, as well.

Mets | Daniel Murphy hopeful for opening day

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 12:24:41 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Mets 2B Daniel Murphy (hamstring) is still on track to be available for opening day Monday, April 6, against the Washington Nationals, according to the team.

Fantasy Tip: Even if Murphy ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) is ready, opening the season against the front end of Washington's pitching staff is daunting for daily contests. It would be wise to pass on Murphy in FantasyScore contests until he proves his health and lands in a more favorable matchup. Danny Muno and Matt Reynolds are candidates to fill any void due to Murphy's injury, but neither have fantasy value in the majority of formats.

Mets | Bobby Parnell could return in May

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 10:56:41 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) is unlikely to return in April, and he's hoping to be back sometime in May, although he's not setting that in stone.

Fantasy Tip: The Mets have said that Parnell is expected to be handed the closer's role back when he's ready to return, so that makes him worth drafting with a late-round pick and stashing in a DL spot. Jenrry Mejia is the favorite to see most of the save chances until then, and he's also a late-round closer option, preferably handcuffed with Parnell.

Mets | Daniel Murphy doing activities

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 10:51:30 -0700

New York Mets 2B Daniel Murphy (hamstring) resumed baseball activities Wednesday, March 25, while hitting off a tee and taking throws at first base.

Fantasy Tip: Murphy is questionable for opening day with his hamstring pull. If he misses time, Danny Muno or Matt Reynolds could start at the keystone, but they are strictly names for deep NL-only leagues.

Mets | Bobby Parnell's velocity down

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 10:13:52 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) has not returned to the velocity he had pre-Tommy John surgery, and he is more than 11 months removed from the procedure. He was around 90 mph with his fastball during his outing in a minor league game, and he topped out at 92 mph.

Fantasy Tip: Parnell will open the season on the disabled list, but it's expected that he'll regain the closer's job when he's ready to return. Snatch him up as a late-round pick in mixed leagues. Pairing him with Jenrry Mejia would be ideal.

Mets | Zack Wheeler undergoes surgery

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 08:50:34 -0700

New York Mets SP Zack Wheeler (elbow) underwent successful Tommy John surgery Wednesday, March 25.

Fantasy Tip: Close the book on Wheeler for 2015. He has a shot at being ready for '16, and he would be worth a flyer for the back end of your fantasy rotations.

Mets | David Wright hits third spring bomb

Tue, 24 Mar 2015 14:17:05 -0700

New York Mets 3B David Wright hit his third home run of the spring Tuesday, March 24. He is currently batting .303 (10-for-33) with 10 RBI.

Fantasy Tip: It isn't wise to overreact to spring training statistics, but Wright has performed at an elite level in the past. His 2014 struggles are largely being chalked up to shoulder troubles, and he is widely available in the early middle rounds of drafts, which could present profit potential. There is upside for a rebound year, and with third base a rather weak fantasy position, Wright could approach the top tier.

Mets | Daniel Murphy might not be ready

Mon, 23 Mar 2015 18:59:53 -0700

New York Mets 2B Daniel Murphy (hamstring) continues to miss time due to a strained right hamstring.

Fantasy Tip: Murphy's availability for the opener is unclear. If he is not ready for the season Daniel Muno or Matt Reynolds could break camp with the team.

Mets | Wilmer Flores out of walking boot

Mon, 23 Mar 2015 18:59:19 -0700

New York Mets SS Wilmer Flores (foot) shed his walking boot Monday, March 23, and he said he was confident he would be ready for the regular season opener. He suffered a bruised left foot during a Grapefruit League spring game Sunday, March 22, after fouling a ball off his foot.

Fantasy Tip: Ruben Tejeda will see significant spring at-bats with Flores sidelined, and if Flores is not ready for the regular season he would likely start the opener.

Mets | Manager sets front of Mets' rotation

Mon, 23 Mar 2015 13:05:24 -0700

New York Mets SPs Bartolo Colon, Jacob deGrom and Matt Harvey will pitch the first three games of the season against the Washington Nationals, according to manager Terry Collins.

Fantasy Tip: Colon ($5,600, 11.2% of cap), deGrom ($7,100, 14.2% of cap) and Harvey ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) are risky options for FantasyScore players with the Mets visiting the high-powered Nationals in their season-opening series. Still, deGrom and Harvey have the strikeout upside to offset some of the risk of a potent line, Colon, though, doesn't.

Mets | Matt Harvey ready for season

Mon, 23 Mar 2015 09:49:37 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey (elbow) has a 1.26 ERA in four Grapefruit League starts and held the New York Yankees to just two hits in 5 2/3 innings Sunday, March 22. He has walked just one in 14 2/3 frames and has a streak of 9 2/3 scoreless innings going. Manager Terry Collins thinks Harvey is ready to pitch in the regular season after he builds his pitch count a bit. Both Harvey and Collins are impressed with the control that Harvey has had this spring with all of his pitches.

Fantasy Tip: Harvey has bounced back really well from Tommy John surgery. Not only is his velocity at pre-surgery levels, but his command has been on point. It's just more reason to draft him as your No. 2 fantasy pitcher this year with upside for plenty more.

Mets | Bartolo Colon opening day starter?

Fri, 20 Mar 2015 16:30:28 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon's scheduled final two Grapefruit League starts would line up with him starting opening day, but manager Terry Collins didn't make an official announcement. Colon will make his starts next week in minor league games in order to avoid facing the Washington Nationals, the Mets' opening day opponent.

Fantasy Tip: Colon ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) is a poor option for FantasyScore games in the season opener since the Nationals project to be one of the better offenses in baseball. He's also nothing more than a late-round rotation filler in large mixed leagues.

Mets | Daniel Murphy could begin season on DL

Fri, 20 Mar 2015 15:31:14 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Mets 2B Daniel Murphy (hamstring) may begin the season on the disabled list, according to general manager Sandy Alderson. Murphy underwent an MRI Friday, March 20, which revealed the injury is more serious than the original diagnosis of "tightness." "He'll be out a week or so, maybe a little longer," Alderson said. "Hamstrings take longer than people want to admit." Prospects Matt Reynolds and Danny Muno -- neither projected to make the team at the start of camp -- would be the primary candidates to start if Murphy is unavailable, Alderson added.

Fantasy Tip: Murphy is a proven option available late in drafts, as he chips in across all categories. It is worth noting his value is highest in points leagues, because of his propensity to hit doubles opposed to round trippers. Expect his draft stock to fall slightly with the injury news. Reynolds and Muno could warrant attention in daily formats, if Murphy does indeed miss time to start the season. Their value is minimal otherwise, though. Continue to check back for updates on Murphy's recovery and return timeline.

Mets | Daniel Murphy out a week

Fri, 20 Mar 2015 13:57:59 -0700

New York Mets 2B Daniel Murphy (hamstring) is dealing with a pulled hamstring, and he'll miss at least a week. INFs Danny Muno and Matt Reynolds are options to play second base on opening day if Murphy isn't ready.

Fantasy Tip: Murphy will give you veteran help at the keystone in the later rounds of standard 12-team mixed leagues, but his price will likely drop even more now that he's hurt. Muno and Reynolds are nothing more than roster fillers in very deep NL-only leagues.

Mets | Noah Syndergaard optioned to minors

Fri, 20 Mar 2015 13:18:35 -0700

New York Mets SP Noah Syndergaard was sent to minor league camp Friday, March 20.

Fantasy Tip: This isn't a surprise, as it was speculated the top prospect would begin the season at Class AAA. His huge strikeout potential makes him a viable stash candidate in NL-only formats, and he should be on your scout list in deep mixed formats. He would warrant a speculative add in the majority of leagues if recalled to the Mets.
