Mets | Dilson Herrera has three-hit game

Wed, 06 May 2015 22:15:13 -0700

New York Mets 2B Dilson Herrera went 3-for-3 with a two-run home run and three RBIs Wednesday, May 6, against the Baltimore Orioles.

Fantasy Tip: Herrera ($2,000; 4.0% of cap) has been seeing regular playing at time at second base with David Wright on the DL and Daniel Murphy starting at third base.

Mets | Travis d'Arnaud to play some OF?

Wed, 06 May 2015 22:14:39 -0700

New York Mets C Travis d'Arnaud (finger) could play some outfield when he returns from the 15-day disabled list, according to manager Terry Collins. "I certainly don't know when Travis is coming back. The closer he gets - and we'll see how Kevin's playing at the time - I think you've got to give yourself an idea of how this is going to work," Collins said.

Fantasy Tip: D'Arnaud ($3,100; 6.2% of cap) doesn't sound too close to returning, but once he is back he could be a decent low-priced option if he picks up where he left off.

Mets | Kevin Plawecki has impressed

Wed, 06 May 2015 22:13:57 -0700

New York Mets C Kevin Plawecki has impressed so much that manager Terry Collins said Wednesday, May 6, that the team will have to figure out how to get playing time for C Travis d'Arnaud (finger) when he returns. "I certainly don't know when Travis is coming back. The closer he gets - and we'll see how Kevin's playing at the time - I think you've got to give yourself an idea of how this is going to work," Collins said.

Fantasy Tip: Plawecki ($3,200; 6.4% of cap) has been a solid hitter with d'Arnaud sidelined. He has experience playing first base, so Collins could get creative to keep Plawecki in the lineup if he continues to hit.

Mets | Jacob deGrom bounces back

Wed, 06 May 2015 22:13:29 -0700

New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom allowed a run, six hits and a walk with nine strikeouts over seven innings Wednesday, May 6, against the Baltimore Orioles in a win. He rebounded after allowed five runs in consecutive starts for the first time in his career.

Fantasy Tip: The quality start was deGrom's first since April 18 after a couple of hiccups. Give him one more start to show he is officially back before committing $7,300 (or 14.6% of cap) in FantasyScore.

Mets | David Wright out seven to 10 days?

Tue, 05 May 2015 17:57:58 -0700

New York Mets 3B David Wright (hamstring) is not expected to return to the lineup for at least another week to 10 days, general manager Sandy Alderson said Tuesday, May 5. Wright is hopeful to get on the field for a minor-league rehab game by the end of this week. "I'm happy that he was positive," Alderson said. "I don't think that changes the estimate."

Fantasy Tip: Daniel Murphy ($3,000; 6.0% of cap) has been starting at the hot corner lately, while Dilson Herrera ($2,000; 4.0% of cap) has been used at second base. Murphy is a decent FantasyScore option as a salary saver without losing too much production, but don't expect much out of Herrera.

Mets | NYM using three catchers for now

Tue, 05 May 2015 17:57:07 -0700

The New York Mets promoted C Johnny Monell from Triple-A Las Vegas Tuesday, May 5, and the club will use three catchers for now. Monell joins Cs Kevin Plawecki and Anthony Recker.

Fantasy Tip: Monell might get a start behind the dish, so FantasyScore owners might find him useful as a low-end option when punting the catcher spot to save salary to spread elsewhere. Plawecki ($3,200; 6.4% of cap) has proven to be the most useful FantasyScore option of the trio while Travis d'Arnaud (hand) has been out.

Mets | Wilmer Flores back in action Tuesday

Tue, 05 May 2015 13:54:51 -0700

New York Mets SS Wilmer Flores is back in the lineup Tuesday, May 5, against the Baltimore Orioles.

Fantasy Tip: Flores ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) has slumped in recent days so he was given time off to clear his head. Your best bet is to avoid Flores until he has proven his hitting skills again.

Mets | Bobby Parnell to throw off mound

Tue, 05 May 2015 13:31:01 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) will throw off a mound in New York in front of pitching coach Dan Warthen, in order for the team to make sure Parnell's mechanics aren't out of whack.

Fantasy Tip: Parnell's exact timetable for a return is uncertain, and the Mets have no reason to rush him back with Jeurys Familia excelling in a closer's role. When Parnell comes back, there's no guarantee he will take the job away from Familia now. However, continue to stash Parnell in a DL slot everywhere.

Mets | David Wright hopes to play this weekend

Tue, 05 May 2015 13:28:08 -0700

New York Mets 3B David Wright (hamstring) is hoping to play in a minor league game this weekend, but it's not set in stone.

Fantasy Tip: Wright ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) was hoping to come off the DL later this week, but that's unrealistic at this point. Expect him back sometime next week, at the earliest. Until then, Daniel Murphy will continue to man the hot corner, with Dilson Herrera at the keystone.

Mets | David Wright not 100%

Tue, 05 May 2015 07:23:13 -0700

New York Mets 3B David Wright (hamstring) isn't 100% confident at running at full speed yet. General manager Sandy Alderson said Wright would be back in five days after he reached that threshold, which makes his May 8 target return date unlikely.

Fantasy Tip: Wright ($4,100, 8.2% of your cap) will be a matchup play on FantasyScore upon his return.

Mets | Lucas Duda having success against lefties

Mon, 04 May 2015 14:45:44 -0700

New York Mets 1B Lucas Duda is hitting .407 against left-handed pitchers this season, and his 1.022 on-base plus slugging percentage is the eighth highest of any left-handed batter with at least 10 plate appearances against southpaws this season.

Fantasy Tip: Duda's ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) new found success against lefties holds more value in seasonal formats than daily contests, as typically, you're aiming for the handedness split. Plus, Duda's still a .224 hitter through 500 plate appearances against southpaws, so the larger sample size means something, too. Duda's value is on the rise, and his FantasyScore cap hit has plenty of profit room when he faces a weak starting pitcher.

Mets | Noah Syndergaard continues to shine

Mon, 04 May 2015 10:47:26 -0700

New York Mets SP Noah Syndergaard threw seven shutout innings for his second straight start for Triple-A Las Vegas Saturday, May 2, and he is now 2-0 with a 1.66 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 21 2/3 innings. Manager Terry Collins said it won't be his decision as to when Syndergaard is promoted to the majors.

Fantasy Tip: Syndergaard is pitching very well to begin the year, but unfortunately the Mets don't really have any openings in their starting rotation with Dillon Gee pitching well. Syndergaard could be the first pitcher promoted if a spot opens up, but New York is in no position to rush anything. Syndergaard deserves to be owned in NL-only leagues and stashed.

Mets | Wilmer Flores has long leash

Mon, 04 May 2015 10:16:43 -0700

New York Mets SS Wilmer Flores has seven errors at shortstop in 21 games this year, which is tied for third most in the majors, and he's already had one more error than he committed in 51 games at shortstop in 2014. However, manager Terry Collins said Flores has a long leash. Flores was rested the last two days to close out the weekend series against the Washington Nationals, though. Flores is also currently in a 2-for-20 slump at the plate. Despite not having much experience at shortstop, the Mets continue to stick with him.

Fantasy Tip: Flores ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) is hitting .240 (18-for-75) with three home runs and eight RBI on the season, and he'll have another day off as the team travels Monday. At FantasyScore, you'll want to avoid him until he gets things going again at the plate.

Mets | Curtis Granderson back in lineup

Sun, 03 May 2015 08:43:19 -0700

New York Mets OF Curtis Granderson is back in the starting lineup Sunday, May 3, against the Washington Nationals. Granderson will hit out of the leadoff spot and play right field.

Fantasy Tip: Granderson ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) is hitting just .232 but he has an OBP of .364. With the possibility to score some runs at the top of the Mets' lineup, Granderson is worthy of consideration for GPP tournaments.

Mets | Noah Syndergaard spins another gem

Sun, 03 May 2015 05:30:32 -0700

New York Mets SP Noah Syndergaard pitched seven scoreless innings for Triple-A Las Vegas Saturday, May 2. He allowed four hits and two walks while striking out 10 during his 100-pitch effort.

Fantasy Tip: It was his second consecutive scoreless seven-inning outing, as Syndergaard is now at 14 consecutive scoreless innings. Dillon Gee's ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) the only man standing in his way of locking down a starting rotation spot, and with the Mets in first place in the National League East, adding their top pitching prospect to the rotation may happen sooner than later. A speculative add in deep mixed leagues isn't out of the question, and Syndergaard is worth stashing in all cavernous mixed and NL-only formats.
