Yankees | Michael Pineda sharp in victory

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 23:44:19 -0700

New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda allowed one earned run, five hits and two walks with eight strikeouts over seven innings in win Monday, July 25, against the Houston Astros.

Fantasy Tip: Pineda's fantasy owners haven't had a lot to be happy about this season, but he has back-to-back wins for the first time this season. Pineda has lowered his ERA from 6.92 to 5.00 over the past 10 starts, posting six or more strikeouts in six of the past seven outings.

Yankees | Trading Ivan Nova is priority

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 19:10:22 -0700

Trading New York Yankees SP Ivan Nova is the next priority as they look to bring something back for another player set to hit free agency at the end of the season, according to a major league source. The Miami Marlins have expressed an interest in Nova. It's unclear what the Yankees are looking to receive in a deal for Nova, but the source said the early asking price is higher than expected.

Fantasy Tip: Nova could be moving on to a contender, although whether he stays in New York or moves to another organization he will be a must-start fantasy option.

Yankees | Dellin Betances to work eighth

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 19:09:42 -0700

New York Yankees RP Dellin Betances will move from seventh inning to eighth inning duties following the trade of RP Aroldis Chapman to the Chicago Cubs, and RP Andrew Miller moving to the closer's role.

Fantasy Tip: Betances continues to be a fabulous fantasy option in rotisserie formats for help in the ERA and WHIP categories, as well as leagues with advanced scoring systems which reward holds.

Yankees | Yanks looking to deal Ivan Nova

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 18:11:30 -0700

New York Yankees SP Ivan Nova could be the next name dealt by the club. They have made it a "priority" to move him, according to a source, though it's still unclear what they're looking to receive in a deal for the right-hander. "They know what the pitching market looks like right now and they're trying to capitalize on that," the source said.

Fantasy Tip: Nova should probably be considered one of the likeliest pitchers to land somewhere else ahead of the trade deadline, as he doesn't really fit into New York's future, hence why he wasn't in the rotation to begin the season. While his 4.65 ERA this season doesn't really stand out, that also includes his time in the bullpen from earlier in the year. He's been in a real groove as of late, having allowed exactly one run in three of his last four starts. Nova could become more of an asset in fantasy if he were to, say, end up on a National League team that utilizes a pitcher's park.

Yankees | Andrew Miller the new closer

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 15:46:20 -0700

New York Yankees RP Andrew Miller will pitch in the ninth inning, and Dellin Betances will pitch in the eighth inning, manager Joe Girardi announced Monday, July 25.

Fantasy Tip: Miller should now be viewed as an elite fantasy reliever, if he wasn't one already. He has six wins, seven saves, a 1.45 ERA, a 0.76 WHIP and 74 strikeouts over 43 1/3 innings, after all. Betances is worth owning in all settings. Over the past three seasons, he owns a 1.70 ERA, a 0.91 WHIP and 14.2 K/9. Those are impressive numbers, and Miller could still be traded, which would provide save opportunities for Betances.

Yankees | Adam Warren set for long relief

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 15:36:46 -0700

New York Yankees RP Adam Warren is expected to pitch in a long-relief role in the middle innings.

Fantasy Tip: Warren struggled with the Cubs and posted a 5.91 ERA through 35 innings over 29 appearances. His fantasy value is extremely limited given his expected role with the Yankees.

Yankees | Short stay in majors for Luis Severino?

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 15:31:55 -0700

New York Yankees SP Luis Severino might not stay in the majors long because RP Adam Warren could take his roster spot Tuesday, July 26, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Severino posted a 3.25 ERA with a 1.08 WHIP and 8.1 K/9 over 10 starts with Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, but it sounds like he'll be back in the minors quickly. He's a stash candidate in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues because he could return to the Yankee rotation at some point this season.

Yankees | Brett Gardner, Brian McCann resting

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 15:06:08 -0700

New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner and C Brian McCann are not in the starting lineup against Houston Astros left-handed SP Dallas Keuchel Monday, July 25. 2B Rob Refsnyder is starting in left field and is hitting second, while C Austin Romine is behind the plate and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Neither Refsnyder nor Romine are attractive to those in DFS action this evening. Refsnyder is more worth your time if you're going out on a limb for a sleeper while hitting second, but keep in mind he's batting just .255 on the year with no homers and 10 RBI.

Yankees | Luis Severino recalled from minors

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 13:11:42 -0700

New York Yankees SP Luis Severino was recalled from Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Monday, July 25. He is expected to pitch out of the bulllpen.

Fantasy Tip: Severino was atrocious through his first seven starts with the Yankees this season and posted a 7.46 ERA over 35 innings. Pitching out of the bullpen limits his fantasy value significantly, but he could still be worth owning in cavernous mixed and AL-only settings, especially if he develops into a lights-out reliever.

Yankees | Yanks land two big prospects

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 09:36:52 -0700

The New York Yankees traded RP Aroldis Chapman to the Chicago Cubs Monday, July 25, in exchange for SS Gleyber Torres, OF Billy McKinney and SP Adam Warren. Torres was the centerpiece of the deal and was hitting .275 with nine home runs in 94 games with Class A Myrtle Beach.

Fantasy Tip: Torres, although young at 19, was the Cubs' top prospect not in the majors. He could hit somewhere between 15 to 20 homers at the major league level and also has great speed. He also has impressive hands on defense and could easily be a future All-Star. McKinney has good offensive potential, as well, but was hitting just .252 with a homer and 31 RBI at Class AA Tennessee. He makes consistent contact and has a good understanding of the zone, giving him the ability to hit for a high average. Warren had been a swing man for Chicago and could find his way into New York's rotation if an injury occurs or they trade a starter.

Yankees | Ivan Nova on trade block?

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 09:14:40 -0700

New York Yankees SP Ivan Nova is being pushed in trade talks in recent weeks by the Yankees, according to rival executives.

Fantasy Tip: Nova has been up and down for the Yanks this year with a 4.65 ERA and 1.32 WHIP with a 7.0 K/9. He's strictly a matchup play in deep mixed, AL-only and daily leagues, and a trade out of the Bronx isn't likely to affect his value drastically one way or another.

Yankees | Four players in proposed Chapman deal

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 07:41:10 -0700

Updating previous reports, Chicago Cubs SS Gleyber Torres, RP Adam Warren and two others are in the proposed deal for New York Yankees RP Aroldis Chapman. OF Jorge Soler and 2B Javier Baez are not among them.

Fantasy Tip: If Chapman lands with the Cubs, it's hard to see him setting up for Hector Rondon, who would lose a lot of fantasy luster. Chapman's numbers are stellar as usual, and he's an elite RP in fantasy regardless. The Yankees are expected to wait four or five days to decide whether to move RP Andrew Miller. If Miller stays, he could be in line to return to the closer role. If he is also dealt, Dellin Betances isn't a bad fallback option. Both remain must-owns in any scenario, but Miller could be in line for a big fantasy uptick if he isn't dealt.

Yankees | Carlos Beltran goes deep for 21st time

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 13:54:17 -0700

New York Yankees OF Carlos Beltran finished 2-for-4 with a solo shot against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday, July 24.

Fantasy Tip: Beltran has five multi-hit efforts over his last eight games and is batting a solid .305 with 21 homers and 63 RBI this season. He's a must-start in almost all regular fantasy leagues and is obviously a pretty good bet every time he suits up in DFS formats as well.

Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi wins second straight start

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 13:38:28 -0700

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi continued his resurgence since rejoining the rotation in a victory over the San Francisco Giants on Sunday, July 24, allowing two hits and striking out six over 6 2/3 innings.

Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi posted a 0-4 record and 9.20 ERA over a six-start stretch from June 3 to July 1, leading to a swift demotion to the bullpen. The 26-year-old turned in three scoreless efforts as a reliever and defeated the Baltimore Orioles in his return to the rotation on July 19. It might be a good time to see if Eovaldi's owner bailed on him during his rough stretch; he's well worth a speculative add as a fairly high-end back-of-the-rotation fantasy starter when he is on his game like he is now.

Yankees | Chad Green notches first career save

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 13:37:47 -0700

New York Yankees SP Chad Green gave up three hits over 2 1/3 scoreless innings against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday, July 24, to notch his first save.

Fantasy Tip: Don't expect this to become a regular occurrence. Dellin Betances, Andrew Miller and Aroldis Chapman each had worked at least the last two days, so manager Joe Girardi opted to turn to his 25-year-old rookie to protect a three-run lead against one of the NL's top teams. Despite his fine work on Sunday, Green is obviously not on the fantasy radar outside of AL-only leagues at the moment.
