New York Yankees C Brian McCann homered in his fourth straight game Friday, May 29, against the Oakland Athletics. He joins Mike Stanley (1993) as the only Yankees players to homer in four consecutive games.
Fantasy Tip: McCann ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) appears to be regaining his home-run streak. He has been disappointing more often than rewarding as a Yankee, but if he is getting warmer at the plate then he should be considered for your lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) is making it very hard for Yankees manager Joe Girardi to sit him down. Don't be surprised to see A-Rod serving as DH a lot more if this keeps up. For now, whenever he is in the lineup he remains a captivating choice.

New York Yankees OF Slade Heathcott (quadriceps) was diagnosed with a Grade 2 strain of his right quadriceps, and he'll be put on the disabled list. OF Ramon Flores will be called up and join the team Saturday, May 30.
Fantasy Tip: With Heathcott injured, Chris Young ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) effectively becomes the starting center field, with Jacoby Ellsbury also on the shelf. It'll increase his value in deep mixed and AL-only leagues, but it could also be hurtful, since he has struggled against right-handed pitchers. At FantasyScore, only consider him an attractive value pick when he's facing a lefty.

New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka (forearm, wrist) will be activated from the disabled list to start against the Seattle Mariners Wednesday, June 3, according to manager Joe Girardi. Tanaka made two minor league starts for Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and Girardi expects him to throw around 80 pitches in his first start back.
Fantasy Tip: Tanaka ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) will be an extremely risky option on FantasyScore in his first start back next week. After that, though, as he continues to build arm strength, he'll be a risk/reward play in daily games. Don't forget that he continues to pitch through a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow, though.

Fantasy Tip: Young ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) normally only starts against left-handed pitchers, but he's forced into the lineup due to an injury. That makes him a player to avoid at FantasyScore, especially while facing the American League ERA leader heading into the game.

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira is not in the starting lineup Friday, May 29. 1B Garrett Jones is starting at first base and hitting sixth in the batting order against Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray.
Fantasy Tip: Jones ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) does have his only home run of the season against a right-hander, but he's only 11-for-43 (.256) against them, and he'll be facing the American League ERA leader in Gray tonight. Jones is a low-end first base play this evening.

Fantasy Tip: McCann ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) is hitting only .254 (36-for-142), but he does have seven long balls and 31 RBI on the season. His recent hot streak should make him more attractive on FantasyScore. However, going up against Oakland A's starter Sonny Gray on the road in a pitcher-friendly environment tonight makes him more of a weak play.

New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka (forearm, wrist) will be on a pitch count of between 80 to 90 pitches in his first start back from the disabled list, which is expected to come either Tuesday, June 2, or Wednesday, June 3, against the Seattle Mariners, according to manager Joe Girardi. Tanaka will also be given an extra day in between starts as much as possible. The likeliest candidate to be demoted from the rotation to make room for Tanaka is SP Adam Warren or SP Chris Capuano, who is 0-2 with a 7.36 ERA in two starts since coming off his own DL stint.
Fantasy Tip: Tanaka ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) should still be owned in all fantasy formats, but he's a much more risky commodity than he was in 2014, and each of his starts for the rest of the season should be viewed as risk/reward on FantasyScore. Avoiding him next week against the M's in his first start back would be prudent.

New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka (forearm, wrist) is flying out west Thursday, May 28. Manager Joe Girardi said as long as Tanaka is feeling well, he'll make a start early next week against the Seattle Mariners.
Fantasy Tip: Until Tanaka ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) is seemingly inevitably shut down or undergoes Tommy John surgery to repair the tear in his ulnar collateral ligament, he is worth using on FantasyScore. Owners should be trying get every ounce of production out of Tanaka while they can, similarly to the Yankees.

Fantasy Tip: Over his last 13 games, Phegley ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is just 7-for-39 with a run, a home run and two RBI. He should be viewed as nothing more than a desperation source of cap relief in FantasyScore contests. Vogt ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) has only received 34 plate appearances against left-handed pitchers this season, and he is typically viewed as a superior hitter against righties. Still, he is a top-tier catcher option Thursday, but you'll have to spend up to roster him.

New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez has 21 career home runs at O.co Coliseum, the home of the Oakland Athletics, while 1B Mark Teixeira has 20 career homers there. The Yankees start a four-game series with the A's Thursday, May 28.
Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) has 11 homers on the year, while Teixeira ($4,800) leads the team with 14 dingers in 2015. The Coliseum typically isn't a productive environment for the long ball, though, but facing A's starter Kendall Graveman, who is allowing 1.2 homers per nine innings this year, could be good news for both A-Rod and Teixeira tonight.

Fantasy Tip: It's almost a given that many folks will want to use Sabathia ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) as one of their two pitchers at FantasyScore tomorrow. However, Oakland has a .576 OPS (second-worst in baseball) against lefties this season, which could make Sabathia a sneaky contrarian play on a day with few games.

New York Yankees RP Dellin Betances allowed an unearned run against the Kansas City Royals Wednesday, May 27, and he still has yet to allow an earned run this year. RP Andrew Miller pitched a perfect ninth inning for his 14th save in as many chances. Betances gave up a hit, a walk and struck out three.
Fantasy Tip: Betances and Miller have both been lights out this year and are a big reason why the Yankees have been a surprise in the early going. Even though Miller is entrenched as the closer, Betances continues to be useful in all fantasy formats.

New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez hit a three-run home run in a winning effort Wednesday, May 27, and it gave him 1,995 career RBI, which moved him past Lou Gehrig (1,993) for third place on the all-time RBI list. Next up for Rodriguez is former San Francisco Giants OF Barry Bonds, who finished with 1,996 RBI. Rodriguez now has 11 home runs on the season and 26 RBI. He also needs just 19 more hits to reach 3,000 for his career.
Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) already has proven that he is a reliable fantasy asset after sitting out all of 2014 due to a performance-enhancing drug suspension. He should continue to be a valuable FantasyScore asset, too, when facing softer-throwing hurlers.
Wed, 27 May 2015 13:23:07 -0700
New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda gave up only one run and six hits while striking out eight and walking one in 6 2/3 innings to beat the Kansas City Royals Wednesday, May 27, after being hit hard in his previous two outings. He now has 67 strikeouts and just five walks on the year, and he's 6-2 with a 3.36 ERA in 2015.
Fantasy Tip: Pineda ($7,800, 15.6% of cap) shut down one of the best teams and offenses in the league Wednesday in the Royals, showing that his resurgence in 2015 is the real deal. His strikeout-to-walk rate is through the roof and is another example that his peripherals should carry him throughout the season. Pineda should continue to be a reliable FantasyScore option.
