New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda pitched a little better Saturday, April 30, against the Boston Red Sox, allowing two earned runs, five hits and three walks with three strikeouts over five innings in a loss.
Fantasy Tip: Pineda hasn't pitched particularly well this season, but he also has received a total of five runs of support over his past four outings. Stick with him in AL-only fantasy leagues and deeper mixed formats, especially for his strikeout potential.

Fantasy Tip: Tanaka has allowed three runs or fewer in each of his five starts this season and is averaging nearly a strikeout an inning. However, he should be viewed as a somewhat risky play in daily contests for his next scheduled start against the Baltimore Orioles Thursday, May 4.

Fantasy Tip: The outing was Sabathia's best of the season, but it still wasn't good enough to pick up his first win since April 9. He has a 5.06 ERA and 1.69 WHIP with 15 strikeouts over 21 1/3 innings. He is worth rostering in AL-only fantasy play, but he has tailed off so much that mixed leaguers won't want to bother with him.

Fantasy Tip: A-Rod needed a game like this, as he is still hitting just .190 with three homers and seven RBIs. He remains a must-start in all AL-only fantasy leagues, but those in mixed formats might want to reserve him until he gets untracked.

Fantasy Tip: This means that Hicks has made enough progress to avoid a trip to the disabled list. He has not played since injuring his left shoulder while diving against the Tampa Bay Rays Friday, April 22, but is not a great fantasy option.

Fantasy Tip: Torreyes has eight hits in 17 at-bats (.471) in backup duty this year. While that's impressive, it's a small sample size and shouldn't influence your decision to choose Torreyes in daily games while hitting at the bottom of New York's lineup.

Fantasy Tip: A-Rod has missed the last couple of games with an oblique issue. He's off to a rough start, hitting only .145 (8-for-55) with two home runs and six RBI, so it might be best to keep him benched until he breaks out of his season-opening slump.

New York Yankees SP Luis Severino dropped to 0-3 this season Tuesday, April 26, in a 10-1 loss to the Texas Rangers. Severino lasted only three innings, and he gave up seven hits, two walks and a wild pitch.
Fantasy Tip: Severino went into the game with the worst run support among American League starters, averaging 1.33 runs per contest. This is not like the Yankees, who have done a decent job scoring against most pitchers. Still, if New York won't hit for him for now you have no choice but to sit Severino.

Fantasy Tip: It's just a routine day off for the former RBI champion. Meanwhile, Torreyes is probably one of the last people in all of Major League Baseball to even be considered for a spot on fantasy rosters in any format. He has zero upside in his current situation.

Fantasy Tip: It'll be his second straight game not in the lineup but this is just a minor ailment, so A-Rod should be back within a few days. In the meantime, Dustin Ackley draws another start, though he's only really a dart throw in daily games. After all, the former Seattle Mariner is just 1-for-12 to start the campaign.

New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez (oblique) is "hopeful" that he can be back in the lineup soon and he feels "better than yesterday." He also said he took 25 swings off a tee Monday, April 25, and felt pretty good.
Fantasy Tip: A-Rod hasn't played since Sunday, but he's been a liability for fantasy teams based on his performance thus far. In fact, while he's got two home runs and six RBI, he's hitting just .145/.242/.273 in his 15 games. He's far off from the renaissance season he experienced a year ago but he should get going at some point. Dustin Ackley stands to be the biggest beneficiary while Rodriguez is sidelined.

New York Yankees SP Luis Severino, who is receiving an American League-worst 1.33 runs per game of support, has allowed 25 hits (two home runs) in three short outings this year, and he has gone six innings just once. He allowed seven hits or fewer in each of his 11 starts last year. Severino has relied on his high-90s heater 58% of the time, while his slider and changeup have taken a back seat. Severino said he's also throwing his slider too hard.
Fantasy Tip: Severino remains one of the Yankees' more promising starting pitchers, but it appears his pitch selection needs improvement in the early going. If someone in your league has dropped him, scoop him up immediately. As is often the case with young pitchers, patience must be shown.

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi held the Texas Rangers hitless for six innings Monday, April 25. He ended up allowing two hits and two walks with six strikeouts over seven innings in the 98-pitch quality start for his first victory of the season.
Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi pitched well near his hometown of Alvin, Texas, also the hometown of Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan. This was his finest outing of the season. He remains a must-start fantasy option in all leagues pitching for a contender and working in front of a decent defense.
Mon, 25 Apr 2016 14:15:54 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Romine likely is in the lineup because the Yankees are facing a left-handed pitcher. Romine is hitting .250 with one RBI so far this season, but owners in most leagues should be able to find a better option to use.

New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez (oblique) is not in the starting lineup against Texas Rangers SP Cesar Ramos Monday, April 25. OF Carlos Beltran will serve as the designated hitter, while 2B Dustin Ackley will start in right field and is batting seventh in the lineup.
Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation to see how long Rodriguez will be out of the lineup. Ackley has gone 1-for-9 in his limited playing time this season, so owners should be able to find better options in their lineups.
