Fantasy Tip: Castro's blast to center was the only hit the Yankees could muster all day long off Jake Odorizzi and two Tampa Bay relievers, but Nathan Eovaldi and New York's vaunted bullpen made it stand up. The 26-year-old Dominican is batting .211 this month and only had one hit in his previous 23 at-bat before delivering his seventh-inning shot. Castro batted .305 in May and hits in the heart of the order of a good offense, so owners should keep him in their lineups and ride out his slump until further notice.

New York Yankees C Brian McCann and OF Brett Gardner are back in the starting lineup against Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi Sunday, May 29, while 3B Chase Headley and OF Carlos Beltran (shoulder) are receiving the day off. OF Aaron Hicks will play right field and bat seventh, while INF Ronald Torreyes will play third base and bat ninth.
Fantasy Tip: Hicks is just 7-for-45 (.156) away from Yankee Stadium this season but Torreyes could be worth taking a flier on in daily contests because of his .407 mark (11-for-27) on the road.

Fantasy Tip: Longoria has gone from being a touch overvalued in many fantasy circles to being a boring veteran who likely is now under appreciated. He sits with a respectable 26 runs, nine home runs and 24 RBI, and there is room for improvement in his .254/.302/.466 slash line going forward. Just because he isn't as flashy as other options at the hot corner doesn't mean his reliability should be overlooked.

New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda allowed six runs on nine hits with three strikeouts through 3 2/3 innings during the Yankees' 9-5 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays Saturday, May 28. While Pineda's 6.92 ERA is the highest among 104 qualified pitchers in the league, manager Joe Girardi currently has no plans of removing him from the rotation. "As of right now, there's no changes," Girardi said. "He's got to fight, and we've got to help him be more consistent with his pitches. I think his velocity has been really consistent, and at times he's thrown the ball really well, so there's nothing that leads me to believe there's anything bothering him physically."
Fantasy Tip: Pineda cannot be started with any degree of confidence at this point, and he likely shouldn't be owned and viewed as anything more than a desperation stash in cavernous mixed and AL-only formats. Despite what Girardi says, there is no way Pineda's rotation spot is secure.

New York Yankees OF Carlos Beltran (shoulder) went 1-for-3 with a solo home run before leaving the game after the sixth inning because of tightness in his right shoulder. He did not rule out playing against the Tampa Bay Rays Sunday, May 29.
Fantasy Tip: Beltran continues to post solid fantasy results and sits with 26 runs, 12 home runs, 31 RBI and a .263/.290/.537 slash line, but nagging injuries are part of the package with the veteran. When in the lineup, he is a viable starter for your virtual outfield, though. Stay tuned for updates.

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi may throw the second-fastest fastball in baseball - his four-seamer registers 96.9 miles per hour on average - but one of the keys to his success in 2016 has been his willingness to mix in his secondary pitches. Of the 21 starting pitchers who average 93 mph or greater on their fastballs, Eovaldi is the only one who throws his less than 50 percent of the time.
Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi, who is scheduled to face the Tampa Bay Rays in Sunday's series finale, has won each of his last four starts while posting a 2.16 ERA. He is averaging 15.6 pitches per inning over that stretch, which is part of the reason why he hasn't worked past the sixth frame in any of his last three outings. Regardless, it appears Eovaldi has turned a corner in his career; he should be considered a strong third starting pitcher in fantasy in most 12-team leagues until further notice.

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (neck) is not expected to play on Sunday, May 29, against the Tampa Bay Rays, according to manager Joe Girardi, who is more optimistic about his return on Monday, May 30.
Fantasy Tip: Teixeira has been out since Wednesday due to neck spasms, although it is hard to say he is being missed much offensively (.195. three homers, 12 RBI). With that said, replacement Dustin Ackley isn't exactly taking advantage of the opportunity and has been even worse this season (.145, no homers, four RBI). New York desperately needs to improve on its current options at first base before the trade deadline, meaning fantasy owners in all formats can certainly ignore either option for now.

New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner and C Brian McCann are not in the starting lineup against Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore Saturday, May 28. OF Aaron Hicks will bat second and play left field, while C Austin Romine starts behind the plate and bats ninth.
Fantasy Tip: Gardner and McCann are receiving the day off because the club is facing a left-handed pitcher. Romine is batting .277 with a home run and five RBI in 47 at-bats and makes a productive source of cap relief for DFS players who typically punt the catcher position. On the other hand, Hicks is just 6-for-41 at the plate away from Yankee Stadium and is not a great fantasy option.

Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez is just 1-for-8 since being activated from the disabled list and is hitting .188 through his first 80 at-bats this season. He may still be worth using a roster spot on in AL-only and deep mixed formats because of his power but his batting average and lack of positional versatility make him expendable in shallower leagues.

New York Yankees OF Carlos Beltran is expected to serve as the designated hitter in one of this weekend's games against the Tampa Bay Rays because manager Joe Girardi doesn't want him playing three consecutive games on the artificial turf at Tropicana field.
Fantasy Tip: The 39-year-old Beltran is batting .262 with 11 home runs and 30 RBI through 46 games this year, including seven homers and 21 RBI during the month of May. He should be viewed as a viable option in all fantasy formats despite his age.

Fantasy Tip: Tanaka carried a perfect game into the fifth inning and is undefeated in his last 11 starts dating back to the end of the 2015 season. He is a solid pitching option in all fantasy formats, although he's not racking up as many strikeouts this year.
Fri, 27 May 2016 17:33:17 -0700
New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka has enjoyed recent success as a result of pitching closer to the first-base side of the rubber. The adjustment has given his two-seam fastball more time to break, making it more difficult for right-handed batters to adjust. On the other hand, Tanaka has used his four-seam fastball less frequently in 2016 than in years past, although it's uncertain if injury or ineffectiveness is the primary reason why the pitch has been nearly abandoned.
Fantasy Tip: Tanaka has seen his strikeout rate tumble each year he's been in the majors, although his groundball rate has increased and the pace at which he's allowed home runs has fallen. The 27-year-old right-hander is 2-0 with a 3.24 ERA in nine starts this year, with 12 walks and 50 strikeouts over 58 1/3 innings and makes a decent starting pitching option against most opponents.

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (neck) said he hopes to be ready to play against the Tampa Bay Rays Sunday, May 29, and manager Joe Girardi said he is looking at returning Teixeira to the lineup Sunday or Monday, May 30, against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Fantasy Tip: Teixeira owns a disastrous .195/.294/.282 slash line with just three home runs, and given his lengthy injury history, there isn't a lot to like about his fantasy prospects going forward. He should be left to cavernous mixed and AL-only formats at this point.
Thu, 26 May 2016 17:29:37 -0700
New York Yankees 2B Starlin Castro went 1-for-4 with his sixth home run of the season Thursday, May 26, against the Toronto Blue Jays. He finished with the team's only run scored and RBI for the game.
Fantasy Tip: Castro has cooled off after a hot April, but he's still been arguably the most consistent hitter in the Yankees lineup. As long as he can maintain his production, he'll continue to be one of the more useful second basemen in fantasy despite his lack of speed on the basepaths.
Thu, 26 May 2016 17:26:48 -0700
New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia dropped to 3-3 after losing his start Thursday, May 26, opposite the Toronto Blue Jays, but he couldn't really have fared better. The left-hander hurled seven excellent innings, allowing two unearned runs on just two hits and one walk. He also struck out seven.
Fantasy Tip: How many people saw Sabathia having a renaissance season in 2016? That's been exactly the case thus far, as despite his .500 record, he now owns a desirable 2.83 ERA, while averaging nearly one strikeout per inning. Perhaps most impressive of all, the 35-year-old has surrendered just one home run in his seven starts after serving up a career-high-tying 28 long balls a season ago. If he can keep that trend up, Sabathia will continue to be a useful commodity in most leagues, if not all.
