New York Yankees 2B Starlin Castro went 1-for-4 with his sixth home run of the season Thursday, May 26, against the Toronto Blue Jays. He finished with the team's only run scored and RBI for the game.
Fantasy Tip: Castro has cooled off after a hot April, but he's still been arguably the most consistent hitter in the Yankees lineup. As long as he can maintain his production, he'll continue to be one of the more useful second basemen in fantasy despite his lack of speed on the basepaths.

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia dropped to 3-3 after losing his start Thursday, May 26, opposite the Toronto Blue Jays, but he couldn't really have fared better. The left-hander hurled seven excellent innings, allowing two unearned runs on just two hits and one walk. He also struck out seven.
Fantasy Tip: How many people saw Sabathia having a renaissance season in 2016? That's been exactly the case thus far, as despite his .500 record, he now owns a desirable 2.83 ERA, while averaging nearly one strikeout per inning. Perhaps most impressive of all, the 35-year-old has surrendered just one home run in his seven starts after serving up a career-high-tying 28 long balls a season ago. If he can keep that trend up, Sabathia will continue to be a useful commodity in most leagues, if not all.

New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez will continue to serve as the primary designated hitter with OF Carlos Beltran playing right field and occasionally serving as the DH, according to manager Joe Girardi.
Fantasy Tip: A-Rod is making his first start off the DL Thursday. It makes sense to keep him benched given he was hitting only .194 before his injury. But Rodriguez can still provide decent power numbers in mixed leagues if he can get things turned around.

Fantasy Tip: Right now, the Yanks don't think Tex will need to go on the DL. But given his injury history and reputation as a slow healer, that could very well end up happening. Plan for that if you own him. You can cut bait in shallow leagues if you haven't already. His 31 home runs from a season ago seem like a distant memory. Bench him for the foreseeable future in deeper leagues. Dustin Ackley could benefit the most as long as Teixeira is sidelined, but he is really only depth for AL-only owners.

Fantasy Tip: Hicks is batting .205 (18-for-88) with two home runs and 10 RBI on the year. That includes a .162 average with no home runs and four RBI against left-handers. Despite the nice lineup position, Hicks remains a low-end DFS flyer.

Fantasy Tip: A-Rod has taken a big step back this year (.194/.275/.444) after slugging 33 home runs in a resurgent 2015 season. It was an uphill climb to match those numbers, but the veteran slugger can still provide decent power numbers when healthy, and he should be able to improve on his current line. Given his struggles to start the year, though, you may want to take a wait-and-see approach before putting him back into your lineups.

With the New York Yankees in the midst of a stretch of 40 games in 41 days, manager Joe Girardi indicated he would consider going with a six-man rotation when SP Luis Severino (triceps) is ready to return from the disabled list. "I think at some point, we'll consider injecting a sixth man in there," Girardi said. "I can't tell you at what point. It depends on how hard your starters have worked, what they look like, how they feel. But at some point, we would do it."
Fantasy Tip: It's no secret New York's rotation is filled with durability risks, so lightening the load during such an intensive stretch of games makes sense. Plus, it would help them sort of which five should start going forward. Each pitcher would stand to lose one or two starts over a 40-game stretch, so the impact would be negligible.

Fantasy Tip: The hard-throwing righty was all kinds of awful prior to going on the DL, and solid pitching from CC Sabathia and Ivan Nova have clouded Severino's immediate future. Don't be too quick to cut bait on Severino, however, given his upside and durability concerns for several of New York's current starters.

New York Yankees SP Ivan Nova took the loss against the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday, May 25. He allowed four runs on seven hits over 6 2/3 innings and struck out eight. It was his first loss in four starts since joining the rotation earlier in May.
Fantasy Tip: Despite the loss there were some silver linings for Nova. He worked deeper into the game and threw a season-high 107 pitches, and the eight strikeouts matched his total from his first three starts combined. While he was never a big strikeout arm, Nova could up his fantasy profile by getting closer to his career mark of 6.57 K/9 as opposed to this year's 4.45 mark.

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (neck) is scheduled to receive a cortisone shot to alleviate the pain caused by neck spasms. The team does not believe the injury is serious enough to warrant a stint on the disabled list, according to manager Joe Girardi.
Fantasy Tip: Texeira is batting just .195 with three home runs and 12 RBI through 42 games this season. Given his lengthy injury history and lack of production this year, he can probably be let go in most mixed fantasy leagues.
Wed, 25 May 2016 15:56:21 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Unfortunately for the Yanks, it looks like one of their top overall prospects will be out for a while. Sanchez set a career high in home runs in the minors last year and is poised to be New York's catcher of the future with elite and raw power at the plate. You'll need to temper your expectations if you were already stashing him in dynasty leagues, as he may not be a realistic option in the bigs leagues again until 2017.
Wed, 25 May 2016 15:37:04 -0700
Fantasy Tip: This would be a big blow to the Yankees' organizational depth at catcher. Sanchez was hitting .290 with six home runs and 26 RBI for Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this year and is New York's catcher of the future. He has plus power that will play nicely in the Bronx. Keep tabs on him in keeper/dynasty formats, and he's worth stashing in those leagues unless his injury turns out to sideline him for a long chunk of time.
Wed, 25 May 2016 15:32:21 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Tex's neck problems combined with his ugly .195/.294/.282 slash line and three home runs mean he probably should be dumped to the waiver wire in most mixed leagues. If you're forced to hang on, keep him benched until he's healthy enough to return or shows signs of life. Dustin Ackley is the main backup at first base and could gain significant value in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues as corner infield depth if Teixeira is forced to go on the DL.
Wed, 25 May 2016 13:09:38 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez is worth owning in the majority of seasonal leagues, and he did hit 33 home runs last season, but you'll want to keep your expectations in check with the 40-year-old veteran. It might be best to take a wait-and-see approach since he posted an underwhelming .194/.275/.444 slash line through 80 plate appearances before the injury.
Wed, 25 May 2016 13:01:39 -0700
New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (neck) is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 25, and manager Joe Girardi said there is no timetable for Teixeira's return, but that the first baseman will visit with the team doctor Wednesday. 2B Dustin Ackley is starting at first base and batting sixth against Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada Wednesday.
Fantasy Tip: Teixeira is off to a miserable start to 2016 with just three home runs and a .195/.294/.282 slash line. It isn't out of the question to move on from the 36-year-old veteran in most mixed leagues given his lengthy injury history. View Ackley as a low-priced flier in daily contests Wednesday.
