New York Yankees RP Dellin Betances, who has a 7.11 ERA in seven spring outings, allowed an unearned run while striking out two in an inning Sunday, March 29, but his fastball reached the mid-90s. Manager Joe Girardi said he's not worried at all about Betances' confidence heading into the regular season.
Fantasy Tip: Betances is expected to have the first crack at closing duties in the Bronx, although Girardi has yet to announce a closer. Andrew Miller is another candidate for save chances. Betances has been overvalued a tad in drafts this spring, but perhaps his shaky spring performance has kept owners more honest. Handcuffing Miller to Betances is the ideal situation.

Fantasy Tip: If Ellsbury ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) comes through fine this week while playing in spring games, he should be ready to go on opening day. However, after missing two weeks of spring training at-bats, there's a chance Ellsbury will be slow out of the gates. You may want to wait and see with him in the first week of the regular season at FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: His batting average has plummeted in recent years, but he still has the power to approach 30 homers. Teixeira ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) hit 18 of his 22 home runs against left-handed pitchers last year, and if you are going to take a chance on him at FantasyScore, make sure the matchup is right.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should monitor the situation to see if Teixeira ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) is dealing with a serious injury. If Teixeira is ready for the regular season, he could be an option for owners on FantasyScore looking for some power in their lineups.

Fantasy Tip: Baker hasn't had a productive fantasy season since 2011 with the Minnesota Twins. It is unlikely Baker receives anything other than a minor-league deal at this point, and is very unlikely to possess any fantasy value this season.

New York Yankees SS Didi Gregorius (wrist) said he is improving, Sunday, March 29, and should take batting practice Tuesday, March 31. Gregorius expects to be ready for opening day Monday, April 6, against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Fantasy Tip: Gregorius ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) is slated to be the Yankees every day short stop this season. Gregorius never played in more than 103 games while with the Arizona Diamondbacks and it will be interesting to see what he can do with a true, full-time role. Gregorius enters the 2015 season with almost no fantasy value, but is someone that owners should be watching on the waiver wire. It's quite possible that Gregorius could emerge as a middle infield option.

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia is not concerned with his spring training performance so far. "It is what it is. I've had spring trainings where I've given up a lot of runs and went out and had a good season. I've had spring trainings like last year where I didn't give up [any] runs and I gave up [six] in the first game [April 1 at Houston]. So you all can put stock in whatever you want. I'm not really worried about it," Sabathia said after allowing five home runs over five innings pitched Saturday, March 28, against the Pittsburgh Pirates Triple-A affiliate.
Fantasy Tip: Sabathia ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) won't be starting his club's season opener for the first time since 2005, and will instead start the third game of the season, Thursday, April 9, against the Toronto Blue Jays. Owners shouldn't be too worried about any of the issues surrounding Sabathia, according to the pitcher himself, but it's difficult not to be scared away somewhat after last season's disaster. Sabathia is currently being drafted at an average draft position of 281. There is plenty of upside to be had at that value, but owners may want to see at least one quality start from Sabathia before trusting him in a lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Betances is the popular pick to land the closer's role for the Yankees, but he certainly isn't seizing the opportunity. He has the chance to be an elite fantasy closer because of his strikeout potential, but there is no guarantee he will reach his ceiling. If you draft him, make sure you pair him with another reliable reliever or two.

Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) is worth a late-round flier in seasonal leagues, but it would be a surprise if he is able to stay healthy and productive for the entire season. Be prepared to cut him loose for a better option.
Sat, 28 Mar 2015 15:29:28 -0700
Fantasy Tip: He has time to be ready for the opener. He's a value play at $3,600 (7.2% of your cap) on FantasyScore. His offense has been sparse at the big league level thus far, but he's hitting .308 this spring. He's still developing and will receive plenty of rope at short.

New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda tossed five shutout innings in spring training Friday, March 27, allowing five hits while striking out five and walking none. Pineda threw 62 pitches and lowered his spring ERA to 1.32 in his fourth start.
Fantasy Tip: Pineda was strong in his return to the Yanks last year, going 5-5 with a 1.89 ERA and 0.83 WHIP and 59 strikeouts in 76 1/3 innings over 13 starts. Now that he's fully healthy, Pineda could be in line for a great 2015 season, and he'll come cheap in fantasy drafts.

Fantasy Tip: The restriction doesn't limit him a whole lot. He'll just have to be efficient to be able to pitch more than five or six innings in order to put up a banner game on FantasyScore. At $7,400 (14.8% of your cap), he loses a bit of upside but remains a low-end SP1.

Fantasy Tip: Tanaka will have the cloud of doubt lingering over him the first couple of months with a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament that could give way at any point. Tanaka ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) has been brilliant this spring with a 1.74 ERA, 0.68 WHIP and 12 strikeouts in 10 1/3 innings. He'll have a tough matchup against the Toronto Blue Jays, but his price point is decent for a top-flight starter on FantasyScore.

New York Yankees OF Jacoby Ellsbury (oblique) will take swings during soft toss Thursday, March 26, and he thinks it'll be a good test to see if he can be ready for opening day. He hasn't played in a game since March 15 due to a right oblique strain that the team is calling "extremely mild." If Ellsbury can play in a game by March 31, he should be ready for opening day, according to manager Joe Girardi. Ellsbury has also been doing sprints, playing catch and swinging a broomstick.
Fantasy Tip: The Yanks are being extremely cautious with Ellsbury because of the nature of his injury. It remains to be seen if he'll be ready for opening day, but unless he suffers a setback, his draft value shouldn't change. You may want to be cautious in using Ellsbury ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) at FantasyScore right out of the gates, though.

New York Yankees DH Alex Rodriguez is subject to increased drug testing by Major League Baseball as a result of his 162-game suspension for using performance-enhancing drugs, according to baseball commissioner Rob Manfred.
Fantasy Tip: This news shouldn't sway your outlook of Rodriguez's ($3,300) fantasy stock. He is a late-round flier, and the risk associated with his age (39) and health (just 181 plate appearances since the beginning of 2013) are far more prominent than anything related to performance-enhancing drugs. However, Rodriguez is having a nice spring (a double, two home runs and a .286/.394/.536 slash line) and could be a nice speculative grab in the endgame of drafts, especially with his pedigree and news of ample at-bats.
