Fantasy Tip: Tanaka ended the season with a 12-7 record, 3.51 ERA and 0.99 WHIP with 139 strikeouts during the season, so he will be a popular pick in 2016 in FantasyScore.

Updating a previous report, New York Yankees OF Jacoby Ellsbury's swing hasn't been right since he crashed into a wall trying to make a catch last Wednesday, according to hitting coach Jeff Pentland. Ellsbury is not in the lineup for the wild-card game against the Houston Astros Tuesday, Oct. 6.
Fantasy Tip: With the Yanks facing a tough lefty in Dallas Keuchel tonight, Ellsbury is on the bench. He hit just .202 (23-for-114) with no homers and three RBI in September. Make sure to avoid him tonight. Chris Young ($5,900, 11.8% of cap), a noted lefty killer, is a very interesting sleeper pick on FantasyScore tonight and is hitting second in the lineup.

New York Yankees 2B Rob Refsnyder is starting at second base and is hitting eighth against Houston Astros SP Dallas Keuchel in the wild-card game Tuesday, Oct. 6. 2B Dustin Ackley will start on the bench against the left-hander.
Fantasy Tip: Refsnyder ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) only had 30 at-bats against lefties this year and hit .267 with no home runs and an RBI. He's strictly a source of salary cap relief on FantasyScore for the wild-card round.

Fantasy Tip: Tanaka ($8,800, 17.6% of cap) is the cheapest of the four starting pitchers in the two wild-card games on FantasyScore after he allowed four runs in five innings in his final start of the regular season. There's plenty of risk against a powerful Houston lineup, and Tanaka could be removed early if he's ineffective in this winner-take-all contest.

New York Yankees OF Jacoby Ellsbury is not starting the American League wild-card game Tuesday, Oct. 6, against the Houston Astros. OF Chris Young is in his place. Two fellow lefties, OF Brett Gardner and C Brian McCann, are in the lineup.
Fantasy Tip: Ellsbury ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) has a .253-2-11 line against lefties, which isn't much worse than his luck against right-handers. Young ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) hits .300 against Astros SP Dallas Keuchel with two doubles and a triple, so he may have some more luck.

Fantasy Tip: These slumps may or may not last into next season, but for now it is something to keep an eye on if you are doing a postseason fantasy league or contest.

New York Yankees C J.R. Murphy could catch the wild-card game against Houston Astros left-handed SP Dallas Keuchel Tuesday, Oct. 6, over C Brian McCann. The Yankees have included C Gary Sanchez on their playoff roster, which would give the Yankees more flexibility to put McCann in the game when the Astros go to their bullpen.
Fantasy Tip: Either way you slice it, McCann ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) isn't a good option for FantasyScore owners. Even if he starts, McCann had just six of his 26 home runs against left-handers and is in a matchup to avoid. It's best to go cheap on catcher for the wild-card games.

Fantasy Tip: Tanaka ($8,800, 17.6% of cap) faced the Astros just once this season, allowing six runs and seven hits, tying a season-worst for homers allowed, in a no-decision in five innings in Houston June 27. Tanaka's ERA has improved in each month since June, and the Astros have won just 18 of their past 59 on the road.

Fantasy Tip: Sabathia finished the season strong, but his overall body of work along with his injury concerns were already making him a shaky pitcher for fantasy owners in 2016. Adding his problems with alcohol on top of it and he's probably one to avoid, at least in shallow mixed formats.
Mon, 05 Oct 2015 10:10:12 -0700
Fantasy Tip: This is a big blow to the Yankees for a potential playoff run. Sabathia had a 4.68 ERA during the regular season but had been pitching well over the last month. He's expected to be ready to pitch for New York next year, but along with Sabathia's declining skills and health concerns, this is yet another reason to be skeptical about drafting him at all in shallow mixed leagues in 2016.

Fantasy Tip: Ackley ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is hitting .231 over the last seven days but two of his three hits have been home runs. Owners on FantasyScore should be able to find a better option to use.

Fantasy Tip: Ackley ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is 7-for-14 (.500) lifetime off Ubaldo Jimenez and has a couple homers this week. He's a low-end flyer worth consideration on FantasyScore.
Sat, 03 Oct 2015 15:15:31 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Beltran ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) has a .391-3-6 line in 23 career at-bats against Ubaldo Jimenez. He's a midrange option on FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Ellsbury ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) is 7-for-14 (.500) lifetime against Ubaldo Jimenez and is a midrange option on FantasyScore.

New York Yankees 1B Greg Bird and SS Didi Gregorius are not in the starting lineup for the first game of a doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles Saturday, Oct. 3. C Austin Romine will start at first base against SP Wei-Yin Chen and is batting eighth in the lineup, while SS Brendan Ryan will start at shortstop and is batting ninth.
Fantasy Tip: Bird ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) and Gregorius ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) likely are sitting out because the team if facing a left-handed pitcher. Ryan ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) and Romine ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) have not done much at the plate this season and are not great option for fantasy owners.
