New York Yankees SS Didi Gregorius appears to have the inside track to start at shortstop, manager Joe Girardi indicated Wednesday, April 1. With both Gregorius and SS Stephen Drew healthy, Drew will be used as the backup shortstop.
Fantasy Tip: Gregorius will have a ton of pressure replacing a legend like Derek Jeter at shortstop in the Bronx. However, he has a good stick and FantasyScore owners might find him to be a good value at just $3,600 (or 7.2% of cap).

Fantasy Tip: Drew will have some FantasyScore appeal when he draws a start, but it might take an injury to Gregorius for a regular role to open.

Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain when Pirela will be able to return. He could emerge as a low-end FantasyScore option if he makes the opening day roster, but all indications are that the window might be closing, if it isn't closed already.

New York Yankees 2B Robert Refsnyder has been a named mentioned in internal meetings as the team gets ready to set its final roster for opening day. Refsnyder's cause to make the club might have been helped by the injury to 2B Brendan Ryan (calf) Wednesday, April 1. "I can't really control any of those situations. I really don't know. I'm just going about my business, trying to get in rhythm for the season," Refsnyder said.
Fantasy Tip: Refsnyder entered play Wednesday with 13 hits in 39 spring at-bats (.333) while connecting for a homer and five RBIs in 23 games. However, he also leads all big leaguers this spring with six errors at second base. If he makes the team it will be in a utility role, and perhaps only until Ryan is ready to return from an expected trip to the 15-day disabled list. In FantasyScore he could have some value at just $2,000 (or 4.0% of cap) if and when he draws a start.

New York Yankees 2B Brendan Ryan (calf) limped off the field during the Grapefruit League spring game Wednesday, April 1, due to a strained right calf. The injury is expected to force him to the 15-day disabled list to start the regular season.
Fantasy Tip: The utility infielder Ryan ($2,000; 4.0% of cap) should be avoided in FantasyScore until at least mid-April when he is likely to return. In the meantime, Robert Refsnyder ($2,000; 4.0% of cap) might make the team and see occasional starts when one of the regulars needs a breather.

Fantasy Tip: Warren would likely make his first start against the Boston Red Sox, which doesn't project favorably for daily contests. He tips the scales in AL-only formats and the odd points league where relief-eligible starters hold additional value. Take a wait-and-see approach in the majority of leagues, though. He only has three starts in his career with a 6.97 ERA and 1.84 WHIP.

New York Yankees SS Didi Gregorius (wrist) wasn't in the spring lineup Wednesday, April 1, but he insists that his sprained left wrist won't keep him from playing on opening day. "I'm not worried about it," Gregorius said. "I have all the range of motion in it, so it's going good. Really good." Gregorius worked out before the game Wednesday, and the swelling in his wrist had gone down. SS Brendan Ryan would likely start at shortstop on opening day if Gregorius has any setbacks.
Fantasy Tip: Gregorius ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) isn't exactly an offensive juggernaut for fantasy clubs; he hit .226 with six homers and three stolen bases in 2014 for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Gregorius is mainly an AL-only commodity in deep leagues, and he should be left alone on opening day at FantasyScore against Drew Hutchison and the Toronto Blue Jays.

Fantasy Tip: Ellsbury ($5,900, 11.8% of your cap) needs to prove his health before investing this much in him on FantasyScore when the season starts.
Wed, 01 Apr 2015 07:47:08 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Gregorius ($3,600, 7.2% of your cap) needs to return in the next couple of days to have a reasonable chance at being ready for the opener. He's a low-end SS worth targeting in good matchups on FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Ellsbury ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) should have time to shake off the rust before opening day. He remains an early-round pick in standard leagues, however, waiting to use him in FantasyScore contests would be a prudent decision.

New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka (elbow) is heading into the regular season fully healthy after making his final spring start Tuesday, March 31. Tanaka allowed six runs (five earned) and 13 hits for a 3.07 spring ERA in 14 2/3 innings, with one walk and 13 strikeouts. He appears to be throwing close to 100% intensity this spring, and he feels good heading into opening day. Tanaka said he has gone away from four-seam fastballs because of the fact his four-seamers were hit hard last year. He sat between 87-90 mph during his outing, but Tanaka was unconcerned with his dip in velocity.
Fantasy Tip: Tanaka ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) will face the Toronto Blue Jays on opening day April 6. He's expected to be at an innings cap of around 90 pitches in his first start, too. Toronto is one of the most imposing lineups in the league in 2015, too, making Tanaka more of a weak play.

Fantasy Tip: Ellsbury ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) hasn't played in a spring game since early March. He dealt with an injury last spring but came out of the gates hot in 2014, giving owners optimism that he could do something similar this year. However, being safe and holding off on Ellsbury in the opening week at FantasyScore makes sense.

New York Yankees RP Dellin Betances, who has a 7.11 ERA in seven spring outings, allowed an unearned run while striking out two in an inning Sunday, March 29, but his fastball reached the mid-90s. Manager Joe Girardi said he's not worried at all about Betances' confidence heading into the regular season.
Fantasy Tip: Betances is expected to have the first crack at closing duties in the Bronx, although Girardi has yet to announce a closer. Andrew Miller is another candidate for save chances. Betances has been overvalued a tad in drafts this spring, but perhaps his shaky spring performance has kept owners more honest. Handcuffing Miller to Betances is the ideal situation.

Fantasy Tip: If Ellsbury ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) comes through fine this week while playing in spring games, he should be ready to go on opening day. However, after missing two weeks of spring training at-bats, there's a chance Ellsbury will be slow out of the gates. You may want to wait and see with him in the first week of the regular season at FantasyScore.
Sun, 29 Mar 2015 19:48:29 -0700
Fantasy Tip: His batting average has plummeted in recent years, but he still has the power to approach 30 homers. Teixeira ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) hit 18 of his 22 home runs against left-handed pitchers last year, and if you are going to take a chance on him at FantasyScore, make sure the matchup is right.
