New York Yankees 3B Chase Headley (jaw) was hit in the jaw by a 96 mph fastball Thursday, Sept. 11, and he did not travel with the team to Baltimore Friday, Sept. 12. He headed to the hospital for tests, including a facial X-ray, according to manager Joe Girardi. Girardi said he didn't think Headley would need stitches, and all of his teeth were intact. The team will watch for any concussion symptoms.

New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka (elbow) must declare himself healthy after throwing a simulated game against instructional league hitters Monday, Sept. 15, if he is to appear in a game before the end of the season. General manager Brian Cashman said the team could extend Tanaka's rehab past the end of the season if he has any minor setbacks. If his elbow doesn't hold up, he'll have Tommy John surgery and miss the 2015 season.
