Fantasy Tip: Hicks figures to benefit the most with more playing time with Alex Rodriguez (hamstring) on the DL with Beltran likely to serve as the main DH. Dustin Ackley could see more at-bats, too. Hicks is more known for his defense and has only two hits in 26 at-bats (.077) this year. Hicks and Ackley see a boost in fantasy value in the short term but are more of AL-only commodities for depth.

Fantasy Tip: Following a rebound season in 2015, Rodriguez has slumped to a .194/.275/.444 slash line through 80 plate appearances to start this season. His absence in the lineup will provide more at-bats for Aaron Hicks and Dustin Ackley, who both gain additional value in deep mixed and AL-only leagues. Slugger Aaron Judge has posted a .277/.320/.447 slash line with Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and could push for a promotion if the Yankees continue to struggle offensively. It's a situation to monitor. Rodriguez is a stash candidate, but if your DL slots are maxed, don't fret cutting ties in the majority of seasonal leagues.

New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez (hamstring) will undergo an MRI exam on his strained right hamstring Wednesday, May 4. Manager Joe Girardi said Rodriguez's injury is "worrisome." Rodriguez had gone 6-for-14 in the last six games but is hitting .203 on the season with five home runs and 12 RBI. 1B Nick Swisher could be called up if Rodriguez goes on the disabled list.
Fantasy Tip: Given A-Rod's age (40), an injury like this is likely to put him on the 15-day DL. Make alternate plans if you own him. Aaron Hicks or Dustin Ackley could see more at-bats as the DH if Rodriguez is sidelined for an extended period, but neither are very attractive outside of AL-only leagues.

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia will face the Baltimore Orioles Wednesday, May 4. He has a career 18-7 record lifetime against the Baltimore Orioles, but he is winless in his past eight starts at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
Fantasy Tip: It's a good idea to reserve Sabathia in fantasy leagues which allow daily transactions, and steer far clear of Sabathia in DFS play, too.

New York Yankees SP Luis Severino allowed four runs and five hits over six innings in a loss Tuesday, May 3, against the Baltimore Orioles, slipping to 0-4. While he allowed just five hits, many of Baltimore's outs were hit hard. He also dropped two flips from 1B Mark Teixeira on defense.
Fantasy Tip: Opponents are hitting .333 against Severino this season, and that ranks third-to-last in the majors. He also has a 6.31 ERA over five starts, and another stinker or two could land him a trip to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to iron out his problems. Fantasy owners should be concerned.

Fantasy Tip: The severity of the injury is unknown but the Yankees would be in real trouble if A-Rod has to miss any time. More information should be available after the game but in the meantime, Ackley will benefit the most for as long as Rodriguez is out. He's not worth picking up in most leagues, however, considering he's just 1-for-16 on the year thus far.

New York Yankees RP Aroldis Chapman is expected to make two more appearances in the Gulf Coast League before Monday, May 9, when his 30-game suspension is set to expire. Manager Joe Girardi said Chapman would get the call, should the Yankees enter the ninth inning with a lead on that night.
Fantasy Tip: This is all very positive news for his fantasy owners, as it looks like Chapman will get to close right away, rather than wait a period of time to be eased back in. While the Yankees have struggled thus far through the season's first month, Chapman should still be one of the best closers to own in the league.

New York Yankees 3B Chase Headley or any of the other Yankees starters won't be benched, according to general manager Brian Cashman. New York has only scored 81 runs on the year, which is tied for the third fewest in all of baseball.
Fantasy Tip: Headley is hitting a measly .156 (10-for-64) to begin the year with no home runs and two RBI. He shouldn't be owned anywhere besides AL-only leagues as corner infield depth, and he could start losing playing time quickly if he doesn't turn things around.
Sun, 01 May 2016 20:48:39 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez is hitting just .203, but he has three home runs in the last four games, so his bat could be waking up. He could still end up being a decent source of power in deeper mixed and AL-only formats.
Sun, 01 May 2016 16:04:31 -0700
Fantasy Tip: It's a classic case of lefty vs. lefty, so McCann will sit despite a .345 batting average. Romine has just one at-bat against Price, so sit him against the Red Sox. He is untested in terms of fantasy value.
Sun, 01 May 2016 16:01:42 -0700
Fantasy Tip: With Price pitching for the Red Sox, Gregorius will take a seat and avoid the lefty vs. lefty matchup. Torreyes has no batting average against Price, so for the moment he has little fantasy value.
Sun, 01 May 2016 15:56:37 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Beltran has a .250 batting average for his career against Price, so this appears to be just a normal night off for the veteran. Hicks has a .308 average against Price, but he also struck out six times in 13 at-bats so be a little wary.

New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda pitched a little better Saturday, April 30, against the Boston Red Sox, allowing two earned runs, five hits and three walks with three strikeouts over five innings in a loss.
Fantasy Tip: Pineda hasn't pitched particularly well this season, but he also has received a total of five runs of support over his past four outings. Stick with him in AL-only fantasy leagues and deeper mixed formats, especially for his strikeout potential.
Fri, 29 Apr 2016 19:44:29 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Tanaka has allowed three runs or fewer in each of his five starts this season and is averaging nearly a strikeout an inning. However, he should be viewed as a somewhat risky play in daily contests for his next scheduled start against the Baltimore Orioles Thursday, May 4.
Wed, 27 Apr 2016 23:58:39 -0700
Fantasy Tip: The outing was Sabathia's best of the season, but it still wasn't good enough to pick up his first win since April 9. He has a 5.06 ERA and 1.69 WHIP with 15 strikeouts over 21 1/3 innings. He is worth rostering in AL-only fantasy play, but he has tailed off so much that mixed leaguers won't want to bother with him.
