Oakland Athletics news, rumors and injuries

Fantasy Tip: Fuld ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has scored just one run and doesn't have an RBI this month. He has no business being in lineups at FantasyScore right now.

Fantasy Tip: Pomeranz is worth stashing in cavernous mixed and AL-only formats. Expect a clearer timeline for his return to be announced soon. Until then, continue to check back for updates on his progress. It isn't out of the question to cut bait for a player with more upside given the nature of Pomeranz's injury, though.

Fantasy Tip: After a sterling spring training, Graveman flamed out in a hurry earlier this season. Consider him a high-risk, high-reward start in all fantasy formats Saturday, and outside of cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues he likely doesn't warrant a roster spot at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Crisp's ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) fantasy stock is dwindling, and at this point, he should not be owned in shallow mixed leagues, and you should consider replacing him in all other leagues, too. Billy Burns ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) and Sam Fuld ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) project to return to the platoon in center field they had when Crisp was out earlier this season. Burns has more upside, although both outfielders are stolen base threats. FantasyScore players should only target them when they land in a favorable matchup.

Oakland Athletics OFs Billy Burns and Sam Fuld are both in the starting lineup against Tampa Bay Rays SP Alex Colome Thursday, May 21. Burns is starting in center field and hitting leadoff, while Fuld is in left and hitting eighth in the order.
Fantasy Tip: Burns ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) and Fuld ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) should both see more playing time with Coco Crisp (neck) out indefinitely. Burns is the much better option at FantasyScore, especially since he's likely to hit leadoff more often than not. The same thinking goes for their values tonight against Colome.

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp (neck) will travel to Dallas to see a doctor Thursday, May 21, and he could be out for an extended period of time and might need surgery. "I'll try to come back sometime this year," Crisp said. "And if not, then next year." He's hitting only .044 in 13 games since coming off the disabled list after having elbow surgery. Crisp played in just 126 games in 2014 due to neck problems.
Fantasy Tip: Crisp ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) should not be owned at this point in shallow mixed leagues, and you should consider dropping him in all other leagues, as well. Billy Burns ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) and Sam Fuld ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) are expected to platoon in center field with Crisp out. Burns is the much better FantasyScore commodity with more upside, although both outfielders are stolen base threats.

Fantasy Tip: Unfortunately, Lawrie ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) has just seven runs and 12 RBI, and seasonal owners have to be somewhat disappointed his solid work at the dish isn't being rewarded with more counting stats. At Lawrie's cap hit, FantasyScore players have a potential bargain on their hands, and the counting stats should begin to follow.

Fantasy Tip: Billy Burns ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) projects to receive a significant fantasy boost for the duration of Crisp's absence, and Burns is worth a speculative add in deep mixed leagues. Check back for updates on the severity of Crisp's injury, but his value is dwindling, and the injury appears serious.

Fantasy Tip: Normally daily leagues and other fantasy leagues don't penalize for defense, and this is what Washington is expected to shore up. Still, Washington's arrival could produce stronger results for players like Marcus Semien ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) and other infielders.

Fantasy Tip: The A's are on the road against the Tampa Bay Rays this weekend. Graveman posted an 8.27 ERA in four starts before being sent down to the minors. He's gone 2-1 with a 1.85 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in his three starts for Class AAA Nashville (Tenn.). He could grab a rotation spot and run with it if he performs well with Drew Pomeranz (shoulder) on the DL. Grab Graveman in AL-only leagues and take a wait-and-see approach with him in deep mixed formats and at FantasyScore for his start on Saturday.

Oakland Athletics SP Jarrod Parker (elbow) had a fractured bone cleaned during his surgery Tuesday, May 19, and a ligament and tendon were also reattached. Parker will be in a cast for four to six weeks.
Fantasy Tip: The good news for Parker is that he won't need a third Tommy John procedure. The bad news is he'll likely miss the rest of the 2015 season. You can drop him everywhere.
Wed, 20 May 2015 09:50:11 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Doolittle may be close to returning, but his velocity has been in question during his rehab. The A's figure to ease him back into late-inning duties when he's activated from the DL, meaning Tyler Clippard will still have some fantasy value as a closer when Doolittle comes back. You may want to ease Doolittle back into your starting lineups, as well.

Oakland Athletics 2B Ben Zobrist (knee) will play seven innings in the outfield with Class A Stockton (Calif.) Wednesday, May 20, and then he'll move his rehab to Class AAA Fresno (Calif.) to play Friday, May 22.
Fantasy Tip: Zobrist ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is nearing a return and should return to starting second base duties when he's ready. That'll push Eric Sogard ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) back to a bench role. Sogard is a low-end keystone play at FantasyScore in the meantime.
Wed, 20 May 2015 09:43:30 -0700
Fantasy Tip: With Drew Pomeranz (shoulder) on the DL now, Griffin could find himself with a rotation spot open once he's ready sometime next month. In deep mixed and AL-only leagues, it's time to stash him away.
Wed, 20 May 2015 09:19:58 -0700
Oakland Athletics OF Craig Gentry is starting in left field and hitting eighth in the batting order against Houston Astros SP Dallas Keuchel Wednesday, May 20. OF Coco Crisp (neck) is not in the lineup.
Fantasy Tip: Gentry ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is hitting only .086 (3-for-35) with no homers and two RBI and should be an afterthought in daily games.
