Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp is not in the starting lineup against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Jered Weaver Friday, June 24. OF Khris Davis will start in left field, while 1B Billy Butler will serve as the designated hitter and is batting sixth.
Fantasy Tip: Butler has eight hits and two RBI over his last seven games and is hitting .333 this month. Butler could be a decent starting candidate in some daily fantasy leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Hill may need three rehab starts or so before returning. Keep him stashed in all formats.

Oakland Athletics SP Eric Surkamp could have his next scheduled start pushed up one day if the team decides to promote SP Dillon Overton from Class AAA Nashville to pitch Saturday, June 25, versus the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Surkamp is currently pencilled in as Saturday's starter but may wind up pitching Friday, June 24, instead.
Fantasy Tip: If Surkamp is not tapped to pitch Friday, the A's may recall SP Jesse Hahn from the minors to face the Halos, although he has not pitched well recently. Neither starter is a recommended fantasy option in any format.

The Oakland Athletics are considering bringing up SP Dillon Overton from Class AAA Nashville to make his MLB debut versus the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Saturday, June 25. He is 8-4 with a 3.01 ERA this year and has not allowed an earned run in his last three starts.
Fantasy Tip: Overton is a 24-year-old southpaw who was selected in the second round of the 2013 draft. He makes a risky play in all fantasy formats due to his lack of a track record.

Oakland Athletics SP Daniel Mengden was impressive again in just his third major league start Wednesday, June 22, versus the Milwaukee Brewers. The right-hander churned out a quality start, going six innings and allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk, including a home run. He also registered nine strikeouts.
Fantasy Tip: That's now two quality starts in three tries for the 23-year-old, who was also just one out shy of claiming a quality start in his first career outing. Mengden has also exhibited some solid strikeout potential, as he's now racked up 21 K's in 18 total innings. Although he remains winless, owners should consider adding the A's rookie in AL-only formats and even deep mixed leagues. Also remember that his home park is the pitcher-friendly O.co Coliseum.

Fantasy Tip: Lowrie is hitting just .262 with one RBI in 65 at-bats this month. Moving into a prime spot in the order gives him some upside against Junior Guerra, though. Phegley is hitting close to .300 this month and is worth a basement play.

Fantasy Tip: Semien is now 17-for-64 (.266) with two home runs, seven RBI and seven runs scored in June. His average is still low, but he's fifth among shortstops in home runs (12) and tied for 10th in RBI (31) on the year. As such, Semien has modest value in larger mixed leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Incredibly, Madson's last save came on May 30, so he went three full weeks without one. To be fair, this was only his seventh appearance in June, so the A's haven't been giving him loads of chances. While he's on the low end of major-league closers, Madson holds value as long as he holds down the ninth inning; still, you might do well to listen to any reasonable trade offers.

Fantasy Tip: Gray was pretty good Tuesday night, scattering six singles and a double. He left with the score 2-2 so he didn't pick up the win. In four winless starts since returning from the DL, Gray has a 3.65 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP in 24 2/3 innings, during which he has struck out 19. Those are already pretty decent numbers, but remember that half of the 10 runs he has allowed came in one inning against the Texas Rangers. There are subtle signs that Gray is rounding into form. If he's available in your league, now would be the time to scoop him up and hope this upward trend continues.

Fantasy Tip: Manaea probably will make one or two rehab starts before he will be able to return to the starting lineup. He is 2-4 with 6.02 ERA so far this season and probably should only be used against favorable matchups.

Oakland Athletics OF Billy Burns in not in the starting lineup against Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson Tuesday, June 21. OF Coco Crisp will start in center field, while OF Khris Davis will start in left field. 1B Billy Butler will serve as the designated hitter and is batting sixth.
Fantasy Tip: Butler is hitting .387 with one home run and seven RBI this month and has eight hits in his last five games. He should be a decent starting option in daily fantasy leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Alcantara is a potential grab in cavernous mixed and AL-only setups. Through 255 plate appearances in Class AAA this year, he has an underwhelming .248/.299/.415 slash line. However, those teams in need of stolen bases could unlock a hidden gem with Alcantara. He has gone 26-for-26 on the base paths this season in the minors, after all. Still, he likely isn't going to see enough regular playing time to make a major dent in the category.

The Oakland Athletics promoted SP Daniel Mengden to the majors out of necessity due to injuries. The original plan was to have him spend half of the season at the Class AA level, and the other half at the Class AAA level. He made his big league debut June 11.
Fantasy Tip: Mengden has pitched well in his two starts since his promotion, but once the A's get healthy look for Mengden to head back down to the minors for more seasoning. His fantasy appeal is short-term in AL-only leagues.

Fantasy Tip: With each setback, it becomes less likely that Alvarez will provide any useful production for fantasy owners. Feel free to stash him if you have a DL spot, but don't count on him contributing.
Sun, 19 Jun 2016 17:34:20 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Davis has tremendous power, making him worth a roster spot in deeper mixed leagues despite a lackluster batting average.
