Fantasy Tip: The lefty Overton had been remarkable in the minors this year, but that didn't translate to the majors in his first two starts, and he allowed five home runs in his 8 2/3 frames. He's one to keep an eye on in AL-only and keeper leagues if he resurfaces again later this year for Oakland.

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) is being shut down from throwing due to "subtle changes" in his labrum, according to manager Bob Melvin. An MRI exam showed inflammation in the front of his left shoulder after he dealt with a rotator-cuff injury in 2015. There is no specific timetable for Doolittle's return.
Fantasy Tip: This is a troubling development for Doolittle, who dealt with a serious shoulder ailment last year. He thinks it's not related, but stay tuned. Since he could be out a while, Doolittle can likely be dumped in most deeper leagues. Ryan Madson gains a stronger hold on the ninth inning as a result.

Oakland Athletics SP Dillon Overton surrendered eight runs and eight hits with a strikeout and three walks Thursday, June 30, in three innings of work. The Athletics fell, 12-6, to the San Francisco Giants.
Fantasy Tip: This is why you have to analyze a pitcher carefully following his first major league start. Sometimes the question about what you do for an encore is one you don't want to answer. Granted, it was the hard-hitting Giants, but the fact Overton was hard-hit makes him a less attractive pitcher in fantasy circles.

Fantasy Tip: Semien has had great luck at the plate even though his batting average has decreased by 13 points. Semien's slugging percentage has gone from .405 to .463, and that has helped his fantasy value rise in all formats.

Oakland Athletics OF Khris Davis (shoulder) said his shoulder stiffened on him when he crashed into the outfield wall Wednesday, June 29, but he feels better Thursday, June 30, and will take batting practice and probably start Friday, July 1.
Fantasy Tip: Davis won't contribute a high average (.253), but he has power that plays anywhere with 19 bombs and 53 RBI on the season. That kind of pop is valuable in all fantasy formats. Get him back into all starting lineups if he's back in there tomorrow evening.

Fantasy Tip: Puk is a tall and lanky lefty that has plenty of promise down the road in the major leagues. However, he'll need to prove he can command his offerings for strikes consistently in the minors and repeat his delivery before he becomes a realistic option at the next level.

Oakland Athletics OF Khris Davis (shoulder) remains out of the starting lineup Thursday, June 30. OF Billy Burns is in center field and is hitting ninth against San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner. OF Coco Crisp moves to left field and remains in the leadoff spot.
Fantasy Tip: Crisp and Burns are both lefty slap hitters mainly, so they both facing a very difficult matching with the MadBum tonight. Crisp has more appeal as an against-the-grain DFS pick in the leadoff spot, but Burns should be left alone. Burns has value for his speed in seasonal leagues, but the return of Josh Reddick has put him as the club's fourth outfielder.

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick and C Stephen Vogt are not in the starting lineup against San Francisco Giants left-handed SP Madison Bumgarner Thursday, June 30. OF Jake Smolinski is starting in right field and hitting sixth, while C Josh Phegley draws the start behind the dish and is batting seventh.
Fantasy Tip: The A's are resting their sluggers in the tough lefty-lefty matchup tonight. Against MadBum, Neither Smolinski nor Phegley will be popular DFS targets as sleepers.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle is a low-end own in deep mixed leagues because of his cross-category production pitching in high-leverage situations. He has two wins and four saves with a 2.93 ERA, a 1.04 WHIP and 35 strikeouts over 30 2/3 innings. With that said, he likely isn't worth stashing. Ryan Madson's hold on the closer role tightens with Doolittle injured, too.

Fantasy Tip: Activated from the DL earlier in the day, Manaea shut down the Giants en route to his third win of the season. There's a lot of upside with the 24-year-old southpaw, so this has to be considered encouraging. Pick him up in AL-only leagues and hope this is a sign of things to come.

Oakland Athletics OF Billy Burns will bat ninth and play center field versus the San Francisco Giants Wednesday, June 29, after OF Khris Davis (shoulder) was scratched from the lineup due to a left shoulder contusion. OF Coco Crisp, who was in the original lineup as the center fielder, will move to left field.
Fantasy Tip: Burns is batting just .171 with five RBI in 70 at-bats this month and is not a recommended fantasy option this evening.

Fantasy Tip: Davis had been playing well recently, batting .385 with three home runs and eight RBI over the past seven days. Remove him from your fantasy lineups tonight and check back occasionally for updates on his status going forward.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle has four saves on the year and a sub-3.00 ERA. He has value in deeper leagues as the main handcuff to Ryan Madson. With Madson throwing two innings last night and Doolittle possibly unavailable, too, John Axford could be in line for a save chance this evening.
Wed, 29 Jun 2016 16:05:28 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Madson tossed two innings but allowed four hits (two home runs) and three earned runs for his 15th save of the year Tuesday night. He doesn't have any specific injury but will likely be rested after his first multi-inning outing this year. Sean Doolittle could be called upon for a save with Madson being rested.
Wed, 29 Jun 2016 13:00:37 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Manaea is a promising young lefty for the A's, but he's been up and down in his rookie season, going 2-4 with a 6.02 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 7.3 K/9. He can be useful in the right matchups, but he's probably far too risky for most to rely on in his first start off the DL tonight against the Giants.
