Fantasy Tip: Bassitt is safe to drop in all seasonal fantasy formats, and he isn't a priority is keeper/dynasty leagues, either. Tommy John returnees typically require 12 to 16 months of recovery and rehab to return to the majors.

Fantasy Tip: The fourth-year shortstop flashed his unexpected power talents in 2015 when he finished with 15 home runs in his first season in Oakland. Only a month into the new campaign, he already has approximately half that total. While he's hitting just .209, Semien still has something to offer fantasy rosters in most formats.

Oakland Athletics SP Sean Manaea gave up four runs in five innings in his second career start Wednesday, May 4, against the Seattle Mariners. He issued seven hits, one walk and struck out six, while picking up a no-decision.
Fantasy Tip: If nothing else, the top prospect has been consistent in his first two starts, although not necessarily in a good way, as Manaea has now surrendered four runs in five innings in both his starts, while also yielding eight baserunners in each outing as well. Manaea doesn't look like he's going to stick long, especially with Henderson Alvarez looming. Owners might want to look ahead and nab Alvarez for when he inevitably enters the rotation, if he's on the wire.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like a minor ailment, but with the 36-year-old injury-prone outfielder, you can't be totally sure. Crisp is hitting only .208 (15-for-72) with three home runs and eight RBI, and he's really only useful as outfield depth in AL-only leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Butler is hitting .212 with one RBI this year and draws King Felix today. He's not worth the flyer.

Oakland Athletics C Josh Phegley is starting behind the plate and is hitting sixth against Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma Tuesday, May 3. OF Coco Crisp will start on the bench. C Stephen Vogt is serving as the designated hitter.
Fantasy Tip: You could certainly do worst than Phegley if you're looking for low-priced catching options in DFS action, but keep in mind the A's backup catcher hit only .220 with four of his nine home runs against right-handers in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Davis has a .234-5-12 line, and he's a midrange consideration in DFS if he can keep up the hot hitting.

Oakland Athletics 2B Jed Lowrie is not in the starting lineup Monday, May 2. 2B/OF Chris Coghlan shifts to second base and is batting sixth against Seattle Mariners SP Nathan Karns. OF Mark Canha is playing third base and hitting seventh. Also, OF Coco Crisp moves up to the two-hole.
Fantasy Tip: Coghlan has four home runs and 10 RBI in just 75 at-bats but is hitting .160 on the year. He's a sleeper pick in daily formats if you're looking to save a little money. Canha and Crisp could also project as fine value plays in DFS action tonight against Karns. Canha is hitting .264 with 14 of his 19 career home runs against right-handers.

Fantasy Tip: Although Alvarez is a ground-ball pitcher who will be playing his home games in a pitcher-friendly ballpark this season, he should be viewed as a low-end starting option in mixed fantasy leagues because of his low strikeout totals. If all goes well, he could return to action later this month.

Updating a previous report, Oakland Athletics 3B Danny Valencia (hamstring) is expected to play three rehab games with Class A Stockton this week. He will play in the field Monday, May 2, and Wednesday, May 4, and will serve as the designated hitter Tuesday, May 3. Valencia said he feels completely healthy and expects to be activated from the disabled list Friday, May 6, before the A's begin a series against the Baltimore Orioles.
Fantasy Tip: Valencia's return will likely result in a significant decrease in playing time for INF/OF Chris Coghlan. When healthy, Valencia should be viewed as an option for AL-only and cavernous mixed fantasy leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Hahn had bright moments in San Diego and could be a solid waiver pickup if you're lacking at the back end of your rotation.

Oakland Athletics SP Chris Bassitt (elbow) has been diagnosed with a partial tear of his ulnar collateral ligament, according to manager Bob Melvin. He will visit Dr. Timothy Kremchek in Cincinnati for a second opinion Thursday, May 5, and could wind up needing to undergo Tommy John surgery if the diagnosis is confirmed.
Fantasy Tip: There's a good chance that Bassitt may have thrown his final pitch of the 2016 season and he is not worth stashing in the majority of seasonal fantasy leagues. The 27-year-old right-hander went 0-2 with a 6.11 ERA in five starts this year, with 14 walks and 23 strikeouts over 28 innings.

Fantasy Tip: When healthy, Valencia's fantasy value is limited to deep mixed and AL-only formats. He is batting .294 with just two RBI through 14 games this season. However, he will receive full-time at-bats, which should help him maintain a solid fantasy floor. His return will significantly cut into Chris Coghlan's playing time. Stay tuned for updates.

Fantasy Tip: Phegley is receiving the start because the A's are playing a day game following a night game. He has eight hits through his first 23 at-bats (.348) this year and is worth considering as a productive means of salary cap relief in daily fantasy contests. Expect Vogt to return to action Sunday, May 1.
Sat, 30 Apr 2016 05:26:39 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Manaea is expected to stay in the rotation for the time being and should have better outings moving forward. He is scheduled to face the Seattle Mariners in his next start, which makes him a risky option in mixed leagues.
