Oakland Athletics 1B Ike Davis will bat sixth against Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez Saturday, July 4. C/1B Stephen Vogt, who played first base Friday, July 3, will catch Saturday, with C Josh Phegley getting the day off.
Fantasy Tip: With Hernandez on the mound, Davis ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is not a great FantasyScore option this afternoon. He is 1-for-5 against the righty in his career.

Oakland Athletics 2B Eric Sogard will bat eighth against Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez Saturday, July 4. INF/OF Ben Zobrist, who played second base Friday, July 3, will start in left field Saturday and bat third.
Fantasy Tip: Sogard ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is batting .308 over the past week and is 8-for-31 in his career against Hernandez. He is worth considering in FantasyScore if you need salary cap relief.

Fantasy Tip: Canha ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) isn't playing as frequently as he was earlier in the season, but he has started the past four games. Still, he is nothing more than an option for cavernous mixed and AL-only owners in seasonal leagues. At FantasyScore, Canha is a matchup play, especially against right-handed pitchers.

Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray (illness) said he will not need to be placed on the 15-day disabled list because of his illness. Gray likely will receive more time off and could start Tuesday, July 7, against the New York Yankees.
Fantasy Tip: Gray ($9,300, 18.6% of cap) appears to be fine after dealing with an illness and will make a start next week. He has allowed nine runs in his last two starts but still has a 2.09 ERA. Gray could be a risky option against the Yankees if he starts against them, but owners on FantasyScore could still consider him an option.

Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray (illness) could be placed on the 15-day disabled list after a bad bout with salmonella poisoning. Gray's illness was caused by salmonella that attacked his colon, which, Gray said, swelled to twice its normal size. He had a fever of 103 degrees. "I got five bags of fluids one night and I was still dehydrated. My body was kind of shutting down," Gray said. "My internal organs were so out of whack. It was not good."
Fantasy Tip: Gray ($9,300, 18.6% of cap) will miss at least his start this weekend, and it sounds like he'll need some time to get his body weight and strength back. Avoid him on FantasyScore, and stash him in traditional formats.

Fantasy Tip: Chavez ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) may be an effective choice for this game in FantasyScore contests. He is up against Mariners starter J.A. Happ, who is winless in his past four appearances.
Fri, 03 Jul 2015 04:34:50 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Kazmir ($7,000, 14.0% of cap) is one of those cases where you may want to be careful. He is the subject of trade talk, but if he goes away from the AL West he could slump badly. That isn't likely to happen, but it's a question you might want to ask. For now, start Kazmir in FantasyScore when he faces AL West teams.

Fantasy Tip: With Gray ($9,300, 18.6% of cap) likely out of the rotation for at least one turn, Chris Bassitt is considered likely to make the spot start Sunday. Bassitt allowed just one earned run over five innings in his lone major league start this season, and he can be considered as a cheap option for GPP tournaments on FantasyScore.
Thu, 02 Jul 2015 15:37:00 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Canha ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) is just 7-for-62 against southpaws this season, and he should be avoided for FantasyScore purposes.
Thu, 02 Jul 2015 15:29:16 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Phegley ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is crushing left-handed pitching to the tune of a .340 batting average this season. Phegley is worth a start any time he's facing a southpaw, and he offers a measure of cap relief to FantasyScore owners.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle has no timetable for a return and won't even be guaranteed the closer's role probably whenever he does return. Of course that could become easier to attain if the A's deal Tyler Clippard at the trade deadline. For now, the best successors to the role are Evan Scribner and Drew Pomeranz.

Fantasy Tip: Butler ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) is riding a modest four-game hit streak, but for the most part, his production has been mediocre throughout the year. Given his lack of upside, there are usually better options available at FantasyScore in the same price range.
Wed, 01 Jul 2015 19:46:08 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Clippard has recorded more than three outs in three of his last four saves, and the Athletics appear to have plenty of confidence in him. With Sean Doolittle still more than a month away, Clippard looks like a safe bet to hold down the closer's job for the remainder of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Gray ($9,300, 18.6% of cap) was treated for severe gastroenteritis, and he missed his start Tuesday, June 30. It is the only hiccup in what has been a dominant season for the young righty. Continue to check back for updates.

Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray (illness) is dealing with severe gastroenteritis and remains in the hospital. He continues to receive fluids and antibiotics, and he could be released from the hospital Wednesday, July 1, or Thursday, July 2. However, there is no timetable for his return to the mound, and the A's are keeping SP Chris Bassitt around in case Gray can't make his next turn Sunday, July 5.
Fantasy Tip: This is the only setback in what has been an excellent season for Gray ($9,300, 18.6% of cap) in 2015. A matchup against the Seattle Mariners Sunday is nice, but you should be skeptical of paying up for him on FantasyScore if he makes the start, since he could still be weak from his illness or on a pitch limit.
