Phillies | Darin Ruf not in lineup

Mon, 02 May 2016 15:08:19 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Darin Ruf (rest) is not in the lineup Monday, May 2. OF David Lough is in left field instead and batting seventh versus St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright.

Fantasy Tip: Ruf had actually been getting more at-bats lately against right-handed pitching, but that won't be the case here. Lough draws the start, and although he'd be considered a dart throw by most in daily leagues, he is out to a fine start, having registered a .310/.364/.379 line through 10 games. His ceiling is limited, however.

Cardinals | Matt Adams starting vs. Phillies

Mon, 02 May 2016 12:31:38 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Matt Adams is batting sixth against Philadelphia Phillies SP Jeremy Hellickson Monday, May 2. OF Randal Grichuk is not in the starting lineup Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Adams has been better of late with an active 8-for-26 stretch leading into Monday, including two runs, three RBI and a .879 OPS over 29 plate appearances. He checks out as an upside option in daily contests Monday. Grichuk is off to an incredibly slow start with a .179/.261/.359 slash line, however, he has made the most of that horrible line with 15 runs, three home runs, 12 RBI and two stolen bases. Still, Grichuk's fantasy value and playing time are dwindling.

Phillies | Odubel Herrera thriving

Mon, 02 May 2016 10:54:48 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Odubel Herrera is hitting .301/.449/.410 and has more walks this year than Washington Nationals OF Bryce Harper. Herrera already has 23 walks in 25 games this year after walking 28 times in 147 games in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Herrera should be owned everywhere. His excellent plate discipline gains early this year are encouraging. Herrera's line-drive stroke combined with plus speed make him a real fantasy baseball commodity that hits at the top of the Philly order. He's a real emerging talent on a rebuilding team. Don't lose sight of him.

Phillies | Dalier Hinojosa lands on DL

Mon, 02 May 2016 10:10:07 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies RP Dalier Hinojosa (hand) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right hand contusion over the weekend.

Fantasy Tip: Hinojosa opened the season with a chance to lock down the closer's role, but he failed at that and now doesn't have much fantasy relevance at all. You can drop him in any deep leagues where you were holding him if you were speculating for saves. Jeanmar Gomez has run with his opportunity in the ninth.

Phillies | Odubel Herrera's streak snapped

Sun, 01 May 2016 17:27:40 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Odubel Herrera went 0-for-3 in a win over the Cleveland Indians Sunday, May 1, snapping his 11-game hitting streak.

Fantasy Tip: Herrera has been one of the biggest surprises of the young season, and he is worth owning in all mixed formats until he stops producing.

Phillies | Vincent Velasquez continues to shine

Sun, 01 May 2016 17:22:30 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Vincent Velasquez allowed two hits while walking four and striking out six over six scoreless innings in a win over the Cleveland Indians Sunday, May 1.

Fantasy Tip: Velasquez is now 4-1 with a 1.44 ERA with 39 strikeouts in 31 1/3 innings, and the 23-year-old should be owned and starting in all formats at this point.

Phillies | Odubel Herrera hit streak at 11 games

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 23:32:20 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Odubel Herrera extended his hitting streak to 11 games Saturday, April 30, in a 4-3 win over the Cleveland Indians.

Fantasy Tip: Herrera is showing signs he is no fluke. With a .313 batting average Herrera is telling people he is worth hitting in the leadoff spot, and you should adjust your fantasy lineup accordingly.

Phillies | Jeanmar Gomez records eighth save

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 23:27:50 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies RP Jeanmar Gomez picked up his eighth save Saturday, April 30, in a 4-3 win over the Cleveland Indians.

Fantasy Tip: Gomez has turned into a pretty decent closer as the Phillies are off to a better-than-expected 14-10 start. Still, the question remains. How long can he keep this job? You may want to draft Andrew Bailey onto your roster as insurance just in case Gomez slides. For now, Philadelphia's decent play makes Gomez a good fantasy option.

Phillies | Freddy Galvis helps extend win streak

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 23:22:11 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 2B Freddy Galvis homered and singled Saturday, April 30, in a 4-3 win over the Cleveland Indians. The Phillies have won five straight games.

Fantasy Tip: Galvis can use this game to jump-start his anemic bat. He has a .220 average to go with two home runs and seven runs batted in, after a .263-7-50 record in 2015. He has at least one hit in six of the last eight games, so maybe his bat is headed in the right direction.

Phillies | Odubel Herrera extends hit streak

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 21:48:54 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Odubel Herrera went 2-for-4 with a walk Friday, April 29, against the Cleveland Indians to push his hitting streak to 10 games.

Fantasy Tip: It wasn't all great, as Herrera was picked off. He is hitting .371 (13-for-35) during the impressive hitting streak, and is a must-start in all NL-only fantasy formats, deeper mixed play and DFS leagues at a mid-tier price.

Phillies | Ryan Howard goes deep

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 21:41:55 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, a double and two runs scored in a 4-3 win over the Cleveland Indians Friday, April 29.

Fantasy Tip: Howard is hitting just .214, but he does have five home runs. In NL-only leagues, his power can still be useful if you can absorb the blow to batting average.

Phillies | Adam Morgan starting vs. Cleveland

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 13:13:52 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Adam Morgan was officially recalled to start against the Cleveland Indians Friday, April 29.

Fantasy Tip: Morgan struck out just 49 batters through 84 1/3 innings over 15 starts last year with a 4.48 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. He has limited fantasy appeal and is nothing more than a desperation start in all fantasy formats Friday. There could be value in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues if he sticks in the rotation, but for now, take a wait-and-see approach with Morgan.

Phillies | Aaron Nola delivers sparkling outing

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 17:00:29 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Aaron Nola worked seven excellent scoreless innings Thursday, April 28, opposite the Washington Nationals. He surrendered just two hits, one walk and struck out seven.

Fantasy Tip: Impressively, the 22-year-old right-hander has gone seven innings in all but one of his five starts this season, while allowing one run or less in three of those outings. And remember, this is a guy that was drafted only two years ago. Clearly, he has a very high ceiling, and it appears Nola is harnessing his potential faster than most people anticipated. He merits a spot on fantasy rosters in just about all leagues with how solid he's been.

Phillies | Jeremy Hellickson impressive Wednesday

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 19:10:56 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Jeremy Hellickson (2-1) allowed two hits and three walks over seven scoreless innings in a victory over the Washington Nationals Wednesday, April 27, with eight strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: This marked the first time in five starts this year where Hellickson was able to pitch into the seventh inning. See if he can put together a few more decent starts in a row before considering him as a viable pitching option in daily fantasy games.

Phillies | Charlie Morton's season over

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 09:25:38 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Charlie Morton (hamstring) needs surgery to repair his left hamstring, and he'll miss the rest of the season.

Fantasy Tip: It's another unfortunate twist for Morton after a really good start to the season. Adam Morgan has taken his rotation spot, but he's only NL-only depth at this point.
