Phillies | Tommy Joseph on the bench

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 12:38:16 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Tommy Joseph is not in the starting lineup against Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler Tuesday, July 26. 1B Ryan Howard will start at first base and is batting fourth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Howard has been playing better in July with a .250 batting average and three home runs in 13 games. Owners in daily fantasy leagues that need power could consider using him, but he probably should still be avoided in most leagues.

Phillies | Jerad Eickhoff to face Miami again

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 21:20:35 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Jerad Eickhoff is scheduled to start Tuesday, July 26, against the Miami Marlins. He allowed six runs - five earned - and nine hits over five innings in his most recent start July 21 against the Marlins in Philadelphia.

Fantasy Tip: Eickhoff is 6-11 with a 3.98 ERA. He is a solid fantasy option in most deeper NL-only leagues for his work in the ERA and WHIP categories, but his lack of wins takes away from his appeal.

Phillies | Maikel Franco draws three walks

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 20:09:04 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Maikel Franco went 1-for-2 with a double, runs scored and three walks Monday, July 25, against the Miami Marlins.

Fantasy Tip: Franco is hitting .324 (24-for-74) in the month of July to raise his average from .243 to .260. He is a must-start fantasy option and he has a bright future.

Phillies | Jeremy Hellickson looks sharp

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 20:08:36 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Jeremy Hellickson allowed one hit and one walk over six scoreless innings in a no-decision Monday, July 25, against the Miami Marlins. He threw 45 of his 70 pitches for strikes, working at least six innings for a ninth straight start.

Fantasy Tip: Hellickson is on the trade block, and Miami could be one of the destinations. He certainly improved his stock with this performance, and for that Philadelphia thanks him.

Phillies | Maikel Franco returns from injury

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 13:45:41 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Maikel Franco (wrist) is back in the starting lineup and is hitting third against Miami Marlins SP Jarred Cosart Monday, July 25.

Fantasy Tip: Franco's wrist injury wasn't too serious, as he only missed a few games. Get the young slugger back into all fantasy lineups. He's hitting a decent .259 with 18 long balls and 55 RBI on the season.

Phillies | Andres Blanco breaks finger

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 16:54:30 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SS Andres Blanco (finger) suffered a broken index finger against the Pittsburgh Pirates Sunday, July 24, and is expected to land on the 15-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Blanco was little more than a DFS flier, so his injury shouldn't have much of an impact on owners in season-long formats.

Phillies | Cameron Rupp sitting vs. Pirates

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 08:50:37 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies C Cameron Rupp is not in the starting lineup Sunday, July 24. C Carlos Ruiz is starting behind the plate and batting fifth against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jameson Taillon Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Rupp is having a serviceable season in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and NL-only leagues with 23 runs, 10 home runs, 29 RBI and a .276/.323/.487 slash line. Ruiz is a potential flier in daily contests Sunday, but his seasonal value is extremely limited. He's handing over more and more playing time to Rupp.

Phillies | No Tommy Joseph against the Pirates

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 08:46:36 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Tommy Joseph is not in the starting lineup Sunday, July 24. 1B Ryan Howard is starting at first base and is batting fourth against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jameson Taillon Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph has some feast or famine in his game with a .264/.299/.529 slash line and 13 home runs through 187 plate appearances. He's a fringe own in mixed leagues and viable option in deeper formats. Howard is nothing more than a desperation flier in daily contests Sunday, albeit one with power potential.

Phillies | Maikel Franco sitting again vs. Pirates

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 08:35:51 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Maikel Franco (wrist) is not in the starting lineup Sunday, July 24. INF Andres Blanco is starting at third base and batting third against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jameson Taillon Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Franco is missing his second consecutive game after being hit by a pitch in the wrist and leaving the game Friday, July 22. He's emerging as a solid power option at the hot corner with 18 home runs and 55 RBI this season. Blanco is nothing more than a low-priced flier in daily contests Sunday.

Phillies | Cameron Rupp does not have concussion

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 17:24:13 -0700

Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Phillies C Cameron Rupp (head) did not show signs of sustaining a concussion Saturday, July 23, after being hit in the head by a 91-mph fastball from Pittsburgh Pirates SP Tyler Glasnow in the third inning, according to trainers from both teams.

Fantasy Tip: Consider Rupp day-to-day. Carlos Ruiz could see several starts behind the plate in his absence and he makes a solid value play for daily fantasy games. He is 9-for-18 (.500) with a double and two RBI during the month of July.

Phillies | Aaron Nola could be demoted

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 17:06:32 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Aaron Nola (5-9) allowed six runs on six hits over four innings in a loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates Saturday, July 23, with two walks and five strikeouts. The team may consider sending him to Class AAA Lehigh Valley in the next few days to work on command of his fastball and focus on pitching more aggressively.

Fantasy Tip: The 23-year-old right-hander has struggled mightily since June 11, posting a 10.61 ERA in seven starts, and he has failed to make it past the fifth inning while allowing four or more runs in six of those outings. If he is not demoted, his next start will come against the Atlanta Braves Thursday, July 28, although he is not a recommended option in any fantasy format right now.

Phillies | Cameron Rupp exits

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 14:39:12 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies C Cameron Rupp (head) exited the game Saturday, July 23, after he was hit in the head by a pitch.

Fantasy Tip: Carlos Ruiz could see a few extra starts in the next few days, and he's actually 7-for-15 (.467) this month with hits in five straight games. He's a matchup play in DFS.

Phillies | Maikel Franco out of the lineup

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 11:07:53 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Maikel Franco (wrist) is not in the starting lineup Saturday, July 23. 3B Andres Blanco will take his place at third base and bat third against Pittsburgh Pirates Tyler Glasnow.

Fantasy Tip: Blanco is a capable replacement for Franco in the heart of the lineup. He has hit better on the left side, too. Blanco is a decent starting option at a lower-than-usual price for a starter batting third in the lineup.

Phillies | Maikel Franco makes early exit Friday

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 19:20:26 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Maikel Franco (wrist) was removed from the game against the Pittsburgh Pirates for precautionary reasons in the fourth inning Friday, July 22, after getting hit in the left wrist by a pitch from SP Gerrit Cole in the first inning.

Fantasy Tip: Franco singled in his only other plate appearance Friday, and should be considered day-to-day. The 23-year-old is batting .257 with 18 home runs and 55 RBI through 92 games this year.

Phillies | Cameron Rupp drives in three runs Friday

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 19:05:10 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies C Cameron Rupp went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in a victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates Friday, July 22.

Fantasy Tip: Rupp is batting .292 with three home runs and 10 RBI through 48 at-bats this month and makes a solid catching option in all fantasy formats.
