Philadelphia Phillies news, rumors and injuries

Fantasy Tip: Harang ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) had allowed at least four runs in six straight starts, but he will need to do more than scatter nine hits over five innings to make him worth taking a chance on at FantasyScore moving forward.
Thu, 30 Jul 2015 20:28:52 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Giles has converted both his save chances since Jonathan Papelbon was sent to Washington, and with 56 strikeouts in 45 2/3 innings and a 1.77 ERA, he has the stuff to be a great fantasy closer the rest of the way.

Philadelphia Phillies OF Cody Asche is not in the starting lineup Thursday, July 30. OF Odubel Herrera draws into the lineup, and he is playing center field and batting fifth against Atlanta Braves SP Shelby Miller Thursday. OF Jeff Francoeur is also not in the starting lineup Thursday.
Fantasy Tip: The Phillies outfield is beginning look like a bit of a daily shuffle with no one starting each of the past four games. Asche ($2,500, 5.0% of cap), Herrera ($3,100, 6.2% of cap), Francoeur ($2,800, 5.6% of cap), Domonic Brown ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) and Ben Revere ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) are all currently competing for playing time, but it wouldn't be shocking to see one of them traded and open up more at-bats. Against Miller ($8,600, 17.2% of cap) Thursday, none of the Philadelphia outfielders are worth a look at FantasyScore, though, and they're all low-end fantasy outfield options.

Fantasy Tip: Revere ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) has quietly had a really nice season on the worst team in baseball, hitting .298 (108-for-362) with a home run, 26 RBI and 24 stolen bases. He remains very relevant for his fantasy owners, but a trade to a contending club in the AL could boost his fantasy value even more.

Fantasy Tip: Harang ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) has been out since July 1 with a foot injury. He's given up 36 earned runs in 46 2/3 innings in his last eight starts, including allowing 10 home runs. Even against the struggling Atlanta Braves, Harang should be considered a very weak FantasyScore option in his start Thursday.

The Philadelphia Phillies reportedly discussed a potential trade that would have sent SP Cole Hamels to the San Francisco Giants, in exchange for C Andrew Susac, SP Tyler Beede and two minor leaguers.
Fantasy Tip: Susac ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is batting .241 with three home runs and 11 RBIs through 41 games and has his path to regular playing time behind the plate blocked by Buster Posey ($5,500, 11.0% of cap). Beede was a first-round pick in the 2014 draft and is 4-6 with a 3.47 ERA through 17 minor league starts this year. In the event that Hamels does not get traded, he is expected to start against the Atlanta Braves Friday, July 31, or Saturday, Aug. 1.
Wed, 29 Jul 2015 14:41:23 -0700
Philadelphia Phillies 2B Cesar Hernandez is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 29. SS Andres Blanco is starting at second base and batting ninth against Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey Wednesday.
Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Hernandez ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) in all fantasy formats Wednesday. He is cooling off of late with a .172/.238/.241 slash line over his past 15 games. Blanco ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) is nothing more than a desperation source of cap relief for FantasyScore players, and you should likely aim higher.
Wed, 29 Jul 2015 14:28:37 -0700
Philadelphia Phillies OF Cody Asche is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 29. OF Domonic Brown is playing right field and batting sixth, and OF Jeff Francoeur is playing left field and batting fifth against Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey Wednesday.
Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Asche ($2,500,5.0% of cap) in all fantasy formats Wednesday. Brown ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) and Francoeur ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) draw knuckleballer Dickey ($5,000, 10.0% of cap), which is a hit-or-miss matchup, so they should be viewed as high-risk, high-reward fliers for FantasyScore contests Wednesday.
Wed, 29 Jul 2015 10:51:25 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Harang ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) has not pitched since he allowed eight runs in a start July 1. He is coming off a foot injury and has not pitched in any rehab games, so owners on FantasyScore may want to avoid him.
Tue, 28 Jul 2015 20:15:02 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Despite the win, Morgan ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is still a risky FantasyScore play going forward as the Phillies have the worst run differential in the majors.
Tue, 28 Jul 2015 15:55:50 -0700
Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels will not start against the Atlanta Braves Thursday, July 30, and is now scheduled to start against the Braves Friday, July 31, but he may be traded before the deadline. The Phillies did not want the possibility of an injury before the deadline.
Fantasy Tip: Hamels ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) may have made his last start with the Phillies, so his next start is uncertain at this point. Hamels has received interest from several teams and could be traded in the next few days. Hamels should be a solid option on FantasyScore not matter where he plays.
Tue, 28 Jul 2015 15:34:18 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Ken Giles is the most likely candidate to take over as the closer for the Phillies, which will help his fantasy value. Owners should look to add Giles if he is available in their leagues.
Tue, 28 Jul 2015 14:11:45 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Rupp ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has been sharing time at catcher and is hitting only .226 this season, so he is not a great option on FantasyScore.
Tue, 28 Jul 2015 14:03:38 -0700
Philadelphia Phillies SS Freddy Galvis is not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP Felix Doubront Tuesday, July 28. SS Andres Blanco will start at shortstop and is batting eighth in the lineup.
Fantasy Tip: Galvis ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) likely is receiving a day off and should return in the near future. Blanco ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) is hitting .343 against left-handed pitchers this season, but owners should still be able to find a better option on FantasyScore.
Tue, 28 Jul 2015 13:51:37 -0700
Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard will serve as the designated hitter against Toronto Blue Jays SP Felix Doubront Tuesday, July 28, and is batting fifth in the lineup. OF Darin Ruf will start at first base and is batting sixth in the lineup.
Fantasy Tip: Howard ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is in the lineup even though he has struggled against left-handed pitchers with a .139 batting average. Owners on FantasyScore may want to avoid using Howard against this matchup. Ruf ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is batting .308 in limited playing time this month and could be an option on FantasyScore if owners want to spend money at other positions.
