Fantasy Tip: It was his second solid start in a row. At $3,900 (7.8% of cap), he might be a sleeper starter to consider on FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Taillon, who had been recovering from reconstructive elbow surgery, is considered to be one of the top pitching prospects in baseball. After suffering this latest setback, it's possible that he won't resume pitching until 2016. Despite these injuries, he remains worthy of monitoring in long-term keeper and dynasty leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Melancon has allowed just a single unearned run since May 11, and he's walked just three batters in that span. Melancon has cast aside the early-season doubts, but his owners may want to sell high if they have other sources of saves.

Pittsburgh Pirates 2B Neil Walker collected his second straight four-hit game Thursday, July 2, against the Detroit Tigers. Walker went 10-for-17 in the series, while driving in seven runs, and he raised his batting average by more than 20 points.
Fantasy Tip: Walker ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) now has hits in six consecutive games. Walker has a considerable preference for right-handed pitching, and he needs to be in FantasyScore lineups for the next few days.

Fantasy Tip: Liriano ($8,500, 17.0% of cap) pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing five hits and three walks, while striking out five. That's now two strong outings by Liriano, since he allowed five earned runs June 20, against the Washington Nationals. Liriano will be a top option Tuesday, July 7, against the San Diego Padres.

Fantasy Tip: Mercer ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is a good plug-and-play against the youthful Kyle Ryan today. Mercer is hitting .448 with six RBI in the last seven days. Walker ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has a .417-2-4 line the last seven days, but he's hitting just .200 against lefties this year. Avoid Walker against the lefty.

Fantasy Tip: Kang ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) hit only .221 (17-for-77) with a home run and eight RBI in June, but he owns a .293/.383/.512 slash line with an .895 OPS and two of his four home runs against southpaws this year. Kang is a good choice as a value play on FantasyScore this afternoon against Ryan.

Fantasy Tip: Sean-Rod ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) and his .250-3-5 line isn't much of an option on FantasyScore despite the matchup against youngster Kyle Ryan.

Fantasy Tip: Walker ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is riding a five-game hitting streak, and he has multiple hits in three of his last four games. He could make a nice lower-priced sleeper at FantasyScore while he is swinging the bat well.

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Sean Rodriguez is starting at first base and hitting ninth against Detroit Tigers SP Alfredo Simon Wednesday, July 1. 1B Pedro Alvarez is serving as the designated hitter in an American League park.
Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) isn't very attractive to FantasyScore gamers normally, let alone hitting at the bottom of the team's lineup. Consider him a very weak sleeper pick.

Fantasy Tip: Hart has been sidelined since June 22 due to a left shoulder injury. FantasyScore players will want to see him officially return and prove his health in a full game before trusting him again.

Pittsburgh Pirates 1B Pedro Alvarez was blasting the ball in pre-game batting practice last week, but during the game he has been struggling. He is on pace for 23 home runs, which would be his second straight season under 30 homers. Hitting coach Jeff Branson has been working with him and has identified the issue with his lost power. "It's contact point more than anything," Branson said. "The ground-ball rate is up because it's a lot of offspeed. The ground-ball rate is up because the contact is going to be out front because of the off-speed pitches and not letting the ball travel in the zone enough."
Fantasy Tip: Alvarez has been ranked as one of the worst defensive first basemen in the game, so he really needs the power to return. FantasyScore players and owners in other formats do not care about his defense as long as he is hitting.
Tue, 30 Jun 2015 13:32:25 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Polanco ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) has a .231 average and seven steals in the top spot, so the Pirates may be playing the leadoff game with Polanco in the hopes to establish speed. His value goes up significantly in FantasyScore.
Tue, 30 Jun 2015 13:25:27 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Kang ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) has really tailed off as of late with a .188 average, but he is hitting .209-3-12 on the road. That may be a bit too much to pay for Kang, despite his improved road stats. Mercer ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) has a .211 road average but is batting .423 in the past week. That may be enough to spend a little money on in FantasyScore.
Tue, 30 Jun 2015 12:58:47 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Harrison ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) appears to be the odd man out because the Pirates are playing in an AL park. Francisco Cervelli ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is at designated hitter so Chris Stewart ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is at catcher.
