Fantasy Tip: Webster was once a top prospect but had an awful 2015 campaign. He'll be an NL-only option. If he has a good spring, he could sneak into the mixed league flyer bin.

Fantasy Tip: Pittsburgh may be trying to deal Walker because he's projected to earn more than $10 million in arbitration. He hit .269 with 32 doubles, 16 home runs and 71 RBIs in 151 regular-season games in 2015 and is a solid fantasy performer at the keystone position.

Pittsburgh Pirates 1B Josh Bell is believed to be ready to contribute at first base at the major league level in the near future, according to general manager Neal Huntington. It's one of the reasons the Pirates didn't make a strong run at Korean 1B Byung-Ho Park.
Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners should take note of Bell, who could contribute as early as next season at some point. Put him on your radar in deep mixed leagues and look to stash him this year in dynasty and keeper formats.

Fantasy Tip: Alvarez is strictly a power threat for fantasy owners (27 homers in 2015), but he'll also hurt you in the average department (.236 career average), and his fantasy appeal could be lessened if he moves to a more pitcher-friendly venue.

Fantasy Tip: Melancon had an outstanding season, going 3-2 with a 2.23 ERA and a career-high 51 saves in 76 2/3 innings for the Bucs. His fantasy value has peaked. He'll come at a high price in fantasy leagues next year, probably regardless of whether he's traded.

Fantasy Tip: Josh Harrison could be in the third base mix if the team doesn't decide to upgrade. He came back to Earth a bit in 2015 but is worth a late flyer.

Fantasy Tip: In 78 regular-season games, Melancon went 3-2 with a 2.23 ERA, successfully converting 51-of-53 save opportunities. He walked 14 and struck out 62 batters over 76 2/3 innings. Melancon should be one of the first relievers picked in seasonal fantasy baseball drafts next spring.

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Gerrit Cole allowed four earned runs, six hits and a walk with four strikeouts over five innings in a loss in the National League Wild Card Game against the Chicago Cubs Wednesday, Oct. 7.
Fantasy Tip: Cole had a tremendous season, but it certainly ended with a whimper against the divisional rivals. He was 2-1 with a 2.13 ERA in three regular season outings against the Cubs with no homers allowed, but that wasn't the case Wednesday.

Pittsburgh Pirates 2B Josh Harrison owns a .378 batting average and a .425 on-base percentage with 10 extra-base hits over his past 74 at-bats since Thursday, Sept. 10. With 3B Aramis Ramirez mired in a 2-for-20 stretch at the plate over his past 20 games, Harrison is starting at third base and batting second against Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta Wednesday, Oct. 7.
Fantasy Tip: It is no wonder Harrison ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) received the starting nod over Ramirez ($4,300, 8.6% of cap), but FantasyScore players will want to think twice about loading up Harrison in their FantasyScore lineups Wednesday. After all, Arrieta ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) has allowed just four earned runs over his past 12 starts.

Fantasy Tip: Marte ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) is a high-end fantasy option in all formats, but it is an incredibly daunting matchup against Arrieta ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) Wednesday. FantasyScore players should view Marte as a high-risk, high-reward play in contests.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the success for McCutchen ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) against Arrieta in the past, he's pretty expensive to rely on at FantasyScore against a Cy Young candidate this season. Plus, McCutchen isn't coming in hot; he went 26-for-110 (.236) in the last month of the season.

Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Aramis Ramirez and 1B Pedro Alvarez are not in the starting lineup for the wild-card game Wednesday, Oct. 7. 3B Josh Harrison is starting at third base and hitting second, while 1B Sean Rodriguez is at first base and is batting eighth against Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta.
Fantasy Tip: It's hard to recommend anyone against Arrieta, who had the best second half of any pitcher in baseball history. However, Harrison ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) is attractive at his price and lineup position. Rodriguez ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) should be avoided.
Sun, 04 Oct 2015 10:17:05 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Ramirez ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) likely will be in the lineup for the wild-card playoff game. Harrison ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) has picked up five hits in his last five games but has not recorded an RBI in his last nine games. Owners may be able to find better options to use.
Sat, 03 Oct 2015 13:21:08 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Morse ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) takes on lefty Brandon Finnegan, but he hasn't stood out against lefties this year. There are better options on FantasyScore.
Sat, 03 Oct 2015 13:20:48 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Harrison ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) takes on lefty Brandon Finnegan, and he has hit slightly better against lefties with .288 average this season. He's a low-to-midrange option on FantasyScore.
