Pittsburgh Pirates SP Gerrit Cole allowed four earned runs, six hits and a walk with four strikeouts over five innings in a loss in the National League Wild Card Game against the Chicago Cubs Wednesday, Oct. 7.
Fantasy Tip: Cole had a tremendous season, but it certainly ended with a whimper against the divisional rivals. He was 2-1 with a 2.13 ERA in three regular season outings against the Cubs with no homers allowed, but that wasn't the case Wednesday.

Pittsburgh Pirates 2B Josh Harrison owns a .378 batting average and a .425 on-base percentage with 10 extra-base hits over his past 74 at-bats since Thursday, Sept. 10. With 3B Aramis Ramirez mired in a 2-for-20 stretch at the plate over his past 20 games, Harrison is starting at third base and batting second against Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta Wednesday, Oct. 7.
Fantasy Tip: It is no wonder Harrison ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) received the starting nod over Ramirez ($4,300, 8.6% of cap), but FantasyScore players will want to think twice about loading up Harrison in their FantasyScore lineups Wednesday. After all, Arrieta ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) has allowed just four earned runs over his past 12 starts.

Fantasy Tip: Marte ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) is a high-end fantasy option in all formats, but it is an incredibly daunting matchup against Arrieta ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) Wednesday. FantasyScore players should view Marte as a high-risk, high-reward play in contests.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the success for McCutchen ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) against Arrieta in the past, he's pretty expensive to rely on at FantasyScore against a Cy Young candidate this season. Plus, McCutchen isn't coming in hot; he went 26-for-110 (.236) in the last month of the season.

Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Aramis Ramirez and 1B Pedro Alvarez are not in the starting lineup for the wild-card game Wednesday, Oct. 7. 3B Josh Harrison is starting at third base and hitting second, while 1B Sean Rodriguez is at first base and is batting eighth against Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta.
Fantasy Tip: It's hard to recommend anyone against Arrieta, who had the best second half of any pitcher in baseball history. However, Harrison ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) is attractive at his price and lineup position. Rodriguez ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) should be avoided.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) likely will be in the lineup for the wild-card playoff game. Harrison ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) has picked up five hits in his last five games but has not recorded an RBI in his last nine games. Owners may be able to find better options to use.

Fantasy Tip: Morse ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) takes on lefty Brandon Finnegan, but he hasn't stood out against lefties this year. There are better options on FantasyScore.
Sat, 03 Oct 2015 13:20:48 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Harrison ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) takes on lefty Brandon Finnegan, and he has hit slightly better against lefties with .288 average this season. He's a low-to-midrange option on FantasyScore.
Wed, 30 Sep 2015 18:50:31 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Cervelli's ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) slam was his seventh home run of the year but his first since Aug. 9. His high batting average and modest price could make him attractive to FantasyScore owners but don't count on seeing much power out of him.

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Gerrit Cole (19-8) allowed two runs on seven hits over seven innings in a victory over the St. Louis Cardinals Wednesday, Sept. 30, in the first game of a doubleheader. He walked none and struck out two.
Fantasy Tip: Cole ($9,400, 18.8% of cap) has thrown seven innings in four of his last five outings. He won't pitch again during the regular season but makes a solid postseason playoff option in FantasyScore.

Pittsburgh Pirates 2B Neil Walker and 1B Pedro Alvarez are not in the lineup for Game 2 of a doubleheader against St. Louis Cardinals left-handed SP Tyler Lyons Wednesday, Sept. 30. 3B Josh Harrison is starting at second base and hitting leadoff, while 1B Michael Morse is at first base and is batting sixth.
Fantasy Tip: Harrison ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) has a triple slash line of .293/.355/.374 against lefties this year and has been hot in September. He makes for a great value pick tonight against the lefty Lyon. Morse ($3,300, 6.6% of cap), on the other hand, hasn't done much all year and is strictly a lotto ticket as a deep sleeper.
Wed, 30 Sep 2015 08:16:39 -0700
Fantasy Tip: A-Ram ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) is 2-for-6 (.333) with a homer off Michael Wacha. He is hitting just .188 the last week, but Ramirez has owned the Cardinals in his career. He's a speculative flyer on FantasyScore.
Tue, 29 Sep 2015 13:33:58 -0700
The game between the St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 29, was postponed due to inclement weather. Cardinals SP Michael Wacha was slated to face Pirates SP Charlie Morton.
Fantasy Tip: Hurry up and make sure you take all players from this game out of your daily lineups.
Mon, 28 Sep 2015 13:16:47 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Harrison ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) doesn't have any home runs and just four RBI this month, but he's also hitting .306 (22-for-72) with six doubles. Lynn has been up and down this month but had six shutout innings in his last inning. You could do much worse than Harrison as a value play on FantasyScore tonight.
Sat, 26 Sep 2015 08:10:26 -0700
Pittsburgh Pirates OF Gregory Polanco is not in the starting lineup against Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel Saturday, Sept. 26. OF Travis Snider will start in right field and is batting second in the lineup.
Fantasy Tip: Polanco ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) probably will return to the starting lineup in the next few days. Snider ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) is hitting only .200 this month but does have eight RBI during that span. Owners should be able to find better options to use in their lineups.
