Fantasy Tip: Over his last nine starts, Peavy has allowed two runs or fewer six times, but this is his second really rough outing in that stretch -- he gave up five runs in 1 2/3 innings on May 20 against the Cubs. While Peavy is still a viable starter in deeper mixed leagues, his inconsistency makes him a tough sell in standard formats.

San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner will hit for himself against the Oakland Athletics on Thursday, June 30. It marks the first time since 1976 that a pitcher has intentionally batted for himself in an AL ballpark.
Fantasy Tip: This news doesn't affect fantasy owners, but it's interesting in that it hasn't happened in 40 years. For the record, Bumgarner's .175 average is 58 points below that of Mac Williamson, who has the lowest BA among position players.

San Francisco Giants INF Kelby Tomlinson (thumb) will serve as the designated hitter during his rehab assignment this weekend for Class A San Jose, before continuing his assignment with Class AAA Sacramento next week.
Fantasy Tip: When healthy, Tomlinson should be viewed as an option for deep NL-only fantasy leagues and as an inexpensive flier for daily fantasy games. He was batting .289 with three RBI in 76 at-bats before landing on the disabled list.

San Francisco Giants INF Ruben Tejada is expected to serve as the club's primary option at third base versus left-handed pitching, according to manager Bruce Bochy. He can also be used to back up SS Brandon Crawford.
Fantasy Tip: Tejada hit just .176 in 34 at-bats for the St. Louis Cardinals this season but was 4-for-12 versus southpaws and is a career .282 hitter against lefties. He's worth rostering in deep NL-only fantasy leagues and can be used as a productive source of cap relief in DFS whenever the Giants are facing a lefty.

Fantasy Tip: Romo will return to a setup role when he is activated from the disabled list, so he is only worth rostering in NL-only fantasy leagues or as a handcuff for RP Santiago Casilla, who appears to be in no danger of losing his job as the closer.

Fantasy Tip: Panik doesn't do anything particular well in any fantasy category that makes him valuable in mixed leagues. In his absence, Ramiro Pena or Tejada could see starts at the keystone, but neither have much offensive upside and can be ignored in most fantasy formats.

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (head) remains out of the starting lineup Wednesday, June 29. 2B Ramiro Pena is starting at the keystone and is hitting eighth against Oakland Athletics SP Sean Manaea.
Fantasy Tip: Panik is in the concussion protocol after concussion symptoms resurfaced for him after being beaned in the head around 10 days ago. There's a chance he could be put on the 7-day concussion DL if his symptoms don't clear soon. Stay tuned for updates. Pena has 14 hits in 34 at-bats (.412) for the Giants this year but only has eight career homers in seven seasons in the majors and is a weak-hitting, low-end DFS pick tonight.

Fantasy Tip: Casilla, who hadn't worked since Friday, entered the game with the Giants trailing 10-9 and let the A's build a four-run lead; the Giants would lose, 13-11. That broke a string of six straight scoreless outings, during which Casilla was 5-for-5 on save opportunities. He's obviously not an airtight option as a closer, but the Giants seem willing to work through these hiccups.

Fantasy Tip: This was Gillaspie's second four-hit performance in eight games since Matt Duffy went on the DL. In that time, Gillaspie is 12-for-29 (.414) with a home run, six RBI and six runs scored. His long-term value is almost nil, but he could provide a short-term boost in NL-only setups.
Tue, 28 Jun 2016 23:24:24 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Crawford came up a home run short of the cycle, but it was still a huge night with his five RBI matching a season high (set May 17 against the Padres). He's still without a home run in June, but his 49 RBI are one shy of Trevor Story/Xander Bogaerts, who lead the position with 50. Even with that, Crawford is better suited to larger mixed leagues until he rediscovers his power stroke.

Updating a previous report, San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (concussion) had passed concussion tests for three consecutive days. He was hit in the head 10 days ago against the Tampa Bay Rays, and is feeling concussion-like symptoms again.
Fantasy Tip: Panik should be avoided in all fantasy leagues and DFS play until he is able to officially return and play a full game or two without any lingering effects of his injury.
Tue, 28 Jun 2016 17:17:29 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Romo has been one of the better setup men in baseball the last few years, and he had a 2.70 ERA and 0.60 WHIP in four outings before his injury. Santiago Casilla isn't in danger of losing his job as the closer anytime soon, though, so Romo's fantasy value is limited to much deeper leagues or as a handcuff for Casilla owners.

San Francisco Giants SP Matt Cain (hamstring) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday, June 28, and make a rehab start in the Arizona League Friday, July 1, and he's expected to return after the All-Star break.
Fantasy Tip: Cain is far from the fantasy ace he was a handful of years ago for the Giants, and his 5.34 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 6.4 K/9 in 2016 is evidence of that. He's merely a matchup play in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues when he's back in SF's rotation.
Tue, 28 Jun 2016 16:55:19 -0700
Fantasy Tip: This stems from a beaning in Tampa 10 days ago, so it's troubling for Panik and the Giants. He could need a trip to the 7-day concussion DL, and concussions are always tricky to recover from. Panik is more of an NL-only commodity with a limited offensive profile at the keystone. Stay tuned for more details from the Giants tonight or tomorrow.
Tue, 28 Jun 2016 15:17:04 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Williamson shouldn't be on many owners' radars. He's hitting .263 with two home runs and four RBI in at-bats for the Gigantes. Consider him a deep sleeper for daily leagues tonight.
