Fantasy Tip: The game went 12 innings, and closer Santiago Casilla had already thrown two scoreless frames. Strickland can be left on the waiver wire for now, but keep his name in mind if something happens to Casilla.

San Francisco Giants C Buster Posey (foot) will start at catcher and bat fourth against New York Yankees SP Ivan Nova Saturday, July 23. Posey left the game Friday, July 22, after fouling a ball off his left foot, but X-rays were negative.
Fantasy Tip: Posey hasn't recorded a hit in four career at-bats against Nova, but he's still one of the most consistent catching plays night in and night out. It remains to be seen if he'll be hampered by the foot ailment, but he should still be started in seasonal leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Williamson only brings a .237 average into today's contest, but he has played well during the Giants' road trip so far. He has a long ball and four runs batted in in his last two games, including a pinch-hit RBi double last night. Williamson is worth a look as a cheap outfield play in daily contests.

Fantasy Tip: Parker had a good game yesterday, drawing two walks and scoring a run as the DH. He's not a bad buy-low option in daily formats facing a right-handed pitcher in a park that caters to left-handed hitters with good power.

San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto will be the starting pitcher against the New York Yankees Saturday, July 23. SP Jeff Samardzija was originally scheduled to start Saturday but will now start Sunday, July 24.
Fantasy Tip: Cueto has allowed at least four runs in three of his last four starts but still has a 2.64 ERA this season. He should be a fine starting candidate in most fantasy leagues Saturday.

Fantasy Tip: Cashner is receiving interest from several teams and probably will be moved before the trade deadline. Cashner has been pitching well over the last few weeks and should be a decent fantasy option no matter where he plays.

Fantasy Tip: Trevor Brown will likely see most of the start for as long as Posey is out, and Brown could be a useful sleeper in DFS formats.

San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence (hamstring) and 2B Joe Panik (concussion) are taking the day off in their rehab assignment at Class AAA Sacramento Friday, July 22. Pence's rest was planned, but Panik "just wasn't feeling great" after Thursday, July 21. General manager Bobby Evans said Panik has passed his concussion protocols and wasn't woozy. Rather, Panik's timing at the plate has been off. There remain no tentative dates for Pence and Panik to return from the disabled list.
Fantasy Tip: The Giants are being very cautious with both of their regulars. Pence is the more attractive fantasy commodity and should still be stashed in all leagues as he nears a return. He isn't running anymore these days, but his .298 average and seven home runs looked nice before his injury. Panik offers very modest returns in all categories at the keystone and is more of a depth piece in deep mixed and NL-only leagues when he's back.

Fantasy Tip: Duffy has posted an underwhelming .253/.313/.358 slash line this season with only four home runs and 21 RBI in 70 games. He's not worth stashing outside of very deep mixed leagues and NL-only universes.

Fantasy Tip: While not a dominant closer by any stretch, Santiago Casilla isn't in any danger of losing his ninth-inning job, so Gomez and Hernandez would just bolster the back end. Gomez is a low-end fantasy closer without many strikeouts, and he'd lose most of his value in a setup role with the Giants.

Fantasy Tip: Making his first appearance since July 3, Brown showed no signs of rust and continues to produce well (.261-5-15 in 111 ABs) behind Buster Posey. He doesn't play enough to warrant a roster spot, but if anything were to happen to Posey, Brown would deserve a look.

San Francisco Giants SP Matt Cain surrendered five runs on six hits over 2 1/3 innings against the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday, July 20. It was his first start since June 13 due to a hamstring injury.
Fantasy Tip: Cain was rolling in May, but injuries have limited him to two unimpressive starts in June and July combined. That previous flash of dominance might be enough to hold onto him in NL-only leagues, but all other owners should steer clear.

San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence (hamstring) is still not ready to resume his rehab assignment with Class AAA Sacramento, four days after he aggravated his right hamstring in a rehab game. Manager Bruce Bochy said the Giants are being cautious with Pence, and he could rehab Thursday, July 21. Pence is at least a week behind his target date of Monday, July 25, but Bochy says the setback was "a little one."
Fantasy Tip: Pence is making his way back from a torn hamstring that came completely off the bone, so it's understandable for the Giants to practice caution here. When healthy, Pence is a middle-tier fantasy outfielder who was batting a healthy .298 with seven long balls and 36 RBI before his injury. He doesn't run anymore but can still help owners in all leagues when he's back.

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (concussion) seems ready to return from the 7-day concussion disabled list Friday, July 22. He didn't have any recurrence of concussion symptoms after his rehab appearance with Class AAA Sacramento Tuesday, July 19. He'll play seven innings Wednesday, July 20, and nine innings Thursday, July 21.
Fantasy Tip: Panik is a modest contributor across all categories for the Gigantes and was hitting .256 with only seven home runs, 36 RBI and five steals before his head injury. Still, he moves the needle in NL-only leagues because he'll return to regular starting duties at second base.
Wed, 20 Jul 2016 14:37:01 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Duffy is a stash candidate, but if you're forced to make a tough roster decision, he hasn't been a great fantasy contributor this season and clearly isn't close to returning. Plus, he's posted an underwhelming .253/.313/.358 slash line this year.
