San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence (hamstring) isn't hitting at all Tuesday, May 24, and he plans to let his hamstring heal. Pence thinks he can return to the lineup Friday, May 27, but he won't say for sure.
Fantasy Tip: Pence had a pinch-hit appearance in the ninth inning Monday night and had the game-winning hit, so his injury isn't too serious. But he and the Giants don't want to make it worse, so he might be out until Friday. Plan accordingly. In the meantime, Jarrett Parker and Gregor Blanco should see starts in the outfield with Angel Pagan on the DL. Both players can return decent value in daily games, with Parker having more of a power stroke. Blanco becomes and option for depth in deep mixed and NL-only leagues with Pagan hurt.

Fantasy Tip: The Shark has gone at least 7 2/3 innings in all four of his starts this month, including going eight strong three times. He has struck out eight in three of his four starts. Facing the Padres for the second time in a week, Samardzija is a strong play everywhere.

Fantasy Tip: Posey continues to prove he's an elite fantasy backstop and perhaps the top option at the position with a .263/.324/.421 line with five home runs and 17 RBI. He's always a fine choice as your backstop in daily games if you're willing to spend big, and he's a must-start in all traditional leagues.

San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence (hamstring) remains out of the starting lineup Tuesday, May 24. OF Gregor Blanco is starting in right field and is hitting eighth against San Diego Padres SP Andrew Cashner.
Fantasy Tip: Blanco is hitting only .221 on the season but is an underrated player against right-handed pitchers. His lineup spot is a tough one for daily considerations, but he could still return decent value as a sleeper against a struggling pitcher coming off an injury. Blanco's fantasy value in seasonal leagues sees a boost in the short term with Angel Pagan landing on the DL Tuesday.

San Francisco Giants OF Angel Pagan (hamstring) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, May 24, with a left hamstring strain. OF Jarrett Parker was recalled from Class AAA Sacramento in a corresponding roster move.
Fantasy Tip: Pagan missed 11 games earlier this season with the same injury, and Pagan's hamstring could be balky enough to cause him issues through the rest of the year. For now, go ahead and clear a roster spot because Pagan's numbers don't merit keeping him around until his bat heats up. OF Gregor Blanco will likely benefit the most from Pagan's injury status.

San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija discovered late last September that he had been tipping his pitches with the Chicago White Sox based on the time he stayed set in the stretch. "I'm over fighting myself, I'm going to go with what feels natural," Samardzija recalled thinking. "Sometimes, you've got to hit the wall to realize that you've got to let go a little bit."
Fantasy Tip: The Shark's last two stellar outings with Chicago paved the way for his turnaround with the Giants in 2016. He's currently sporting a 6-2 record, 2.66 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 7.7 strikeouts per nine innings. Samardzija has been an incredible value so far for those that took the chance on him as their third or fourth starter.

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt has a career .339 batting average on balls in play, and it's a direct result of the high number of line drives that he hits. He ranked first in the majors in line-drive percentage last year and ranks ninth in that category this year.
Fantasy Tip: That means that Belt is a good bet to keep his high average (.287) throughout the season. Although he has only four long balls, Belt has the capability of reaching the 20-homer mark for the first time in his career after slugging 18 in 2015. He's a midrange fantasy starter at first base in all formats.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto is 3-0 with a 2.11 ERA, a 0.94 WHIP and 34 K's in 38 1/3 innings this month. He has had some favorable matchups, and this tear could be aided by that. We don't think he'll fall off a cliff the rest of the way, but it's the optimal time to sell high on him.

Fantasy Tip: Pagan missed time because of his hamstring injury earlier this month and likely will miss at least a few games. Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation to see if he will need to be placed on the disabled list. Gregor Blanco likely will be in the starting lineup with Pagan out and can be a decent option in daily fantasy leagues.

San Francisco Giants RP Sergio Romo (forearm) is set to begin his rehab with Class AAA Sacramento Monday, May 23, and make additional appearances with them every other day until Monday, May 30, when he is expected to rejoin the team if there are no setbacks. He'll "largely" be the eighth inning guy again.
Fantasy Tip: Romo was out to a nice start this year, picking up a hold each of his four appearances before going down with injury. He hasn't pitched since April 10, so there might be some rust involved, but when he's settled in again, the 33-year-old right-hander is one of the best set-up men in the business and should be owned in all leagues that score holds.

Updating a previous report, San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence's (hamstring) MRI exam showed a mild strain of his hamstring. He will hit on the field Monday, May 23, and the team isn't ruling out getting him into the lineup.
Fantasy Tip: The initial lineup has Gregor Blanco replacing Pence Monday night. Pence has missed the last three games and isn't worth the risk if he actually makes it into the starting lineup. He should return tomorrow if he's out tonight, though, and he needs to be immediately returned to all starting lineups.

San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence (hamstring) is out for his third straight game with a hamstring strain Monday, May 23. OF Gregor Blanco is starting in right field and batting eighth against San Diego Padres SP Drew Pomeranz. Also, OF Angel Pagan moves up to fifth in the batting order.
Fantasy Tip: Pence is day-to-day and could return to the lineup tomorrow. Get him back in all lineups when he's ready. Be hesitant when considering Blanco or Pagan for daily lineups tonight against the left-hander Pomeranz. Lefties are hitting only .180 with one home run on the season against him.
Mon, 23 May 2016 10:38:49 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Romo is at least a week away from returning to the Giants bullpen, where he'll likely resume his role as the primary eighth-inning setup man to Santiago Casilla. Hunter Strickland is another option in the ninth if Casilla falters, though, so Romo's fantasy value is very limited as a handcuff for Casilla owners.

Fantasy Tip: Pence is having a solid offensive season, and he should be reinserted into lineups as soon as his return is confirmed.

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy's spot in the rotation is not in jeopardy, according to manager Bruce Bochy. "I don't have a leash on him right now, so I don't know how long," Bochy said. "Jake, he's going to be fine. He had a hiccup in his last start. He's had a couple of good ones too."
Fantasy Tip: Peavy sports an ugly 8.21 ERA, and you can afford to let him sit on waivers while he tries to find his form.
