San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner looks for better results against the San Diego Padres Monday, May 4. In his first meeting with the Padres April 11 he was pounded for five runs and 10 hits while lasting just three innings.
Fantasy Tip: Bumgarner ($8,500; 17.0% of cap) pieced it together for FantasyScore owners last time out, and he rarely struggles in back-to-back outings against anyone, so look for a much better stat line Monday.

San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence (arm) will take batting practice the next two days and then rest Wednesday, May 6, then take BP again the next two days, according to manager Bruce Bochy. Pence would then go on a minor league rehab assignment.
Fantasy Tip: Pence ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) could be back with the team later this month to make his season debut. In the meantime, Justin Maxwell ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is likely to continue seeing the majority of starts in right field. He started hot last month but has since come back down to earth. Maxwell is a weaker outfield play at FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Peavy ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) will likely return to the starting rotation and bump Ryan Vogelsong back to a long-relief role when he's ready. However, at Peavy's age, the Giants likely won't rush him back. Peavy is strictly an NL-only commodity that should only be chosen at FantasyScore if the matchup is juicy.

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy (back) threw 20-25 fastballs at 70-80 percent during a bullpen session Saturday, May 2, and reportedly felt improvement in his lower back. It was the first time he had thrown off a mound since landing on the disabled list.
Fantasy Tip: It is uncertain if Peavy ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) will be sent on a minor league rehab assignment before he is activated from the disabled list. Regardless of what happens, FantasyScore owners should monitor the results of his first game back before seriously considering him as a pitching option.

Fantasy Tip: Cain will not return for a while, so fantasy owners in standard leagues need to be patient. FantasyScore players can estimate Cain will not be back for at least a month, if not longer. Everyone stay patient.

Fantasy Tip: Peavy is making his way back from a strained lower back. It's uncertain if he will need to go out on a minor-league rehab stint or if he will be activated from the DL when eligible in a few days. Either way, FantasyScore owners need to wait to see him officially return and make his way through a full start without lingering effects of the injury before trusting him again.

Fantasy Tip: Pence should be avoided by FantasyScore owners until he can officially return and play a handful of games to knock off the rust after his considerable layoff.

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik is not in the starting lineup against a left-handed pitcher Friday, May 1. 2B Matt Duffy is starting at the keystone and hitting second in the batting order against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson.
Fantasy Tip: Duffy ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is hitting only .239 (11-for-46) with one home run and seven RBI, and he doesn't have a ton of offensive upside. A high lineup position makes him a low-priced sleeper, however, against Wilson.

Fantasy Tip: Huddy ($4,500, 9.0% of your cap) isn't the underrated star he used to be, but he's still a decent matchup play on FantasyScore.

San Francisco Giants SP Ryan Vogelsong had four home runs hit off of him Wednesday, April 29, in a 7-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. "I warmed up fine in the bullpen and felt fine, physically. I just didn't make very good pitches," Vogelsong said. "Not all of them were up, but some were, for sure. They weren't terrible pitches, just not as good as they needed to be."
Fantasy Tip: Vogelsong ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) has been pretty shaky as of late, so the best thing to do is stay away from this pitcher. He is in the rotation to replace the injured Jake Peavy, but he could end up demoted after a performance like this.

Fantasy Tip: Pence is making progress, but FantasyScore players should still not expect to use him until at least mid-May. He might return soon, but give him a handful of games to knock off the rust and get into the groove before trusting him again.

Fantasy Tip: Cain ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) is yet to appear in the majors in 2015 and isn't worthy of a roster spot in season-long leagues. Cain will be worth the occasional spot-start on FantasyScore, in favorable matchups. Owners should allow him a handful of starts after returning before making the investment.

San Francisco Giants SS Brandon Crawford is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 28. 3B Joaquin Arias is starting at the 6 and hitting eighth in the batting order against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw.
Fantasy Tip: Arias ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is a very weak third base option in daily games tonight. He is 9-for-34 (.265) with one RBI in his career against Kershaw.

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 28. 2B Matt Duffy is starting at the keystone and hitting second in the batting order against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw.
Fantasy Tip: Duffy ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has three hits in five career at-bats against Kershaw, but we don't recommend him as a cheap option for your second base spot at FantasyScore tonight.

San Francisco Giants OF Justin Maxwell homered in each of the two games over the weekend and is batting .308 with a 1.015 OPS in 39 at-bats this season, and manager Bruce Bochy said he'll keep playing Maxwell in right field until OF Hunter Pence (arm) returns. Maxwell could knock OF Norichika Aoki out of the lineup once Pence returns on occasion.
Fantasy Tip: It's hard not to want to sneak Maxwell ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) into your FantasyScore lineups while he's on fire. Tonight is another one of those occasions, as he's facing Los Angeles Dodgers left-handed starter Brett Anderson.
