Updating a previous report, San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt (ankle) said he could play Friday, May 27, or Saturday, May 28, after he took batting practice in the batting cage Friday. Belt sprained his left ankle sliding into second base during the game against the San Diego Padres Wednesday, May 25.
Fantasy Tip: Injuries seem to always creep up and limit Belt from fulfilling the upside he flashes in spurts. However, it seems he will be able to return soon this time. Thus far, Belt has a respectable 22 runs and 22 RBI with a .276/.407/.442 slash line, but owners hope he beefs up the power, as he sits with just four long flies. Check back to see if Belt returns to the starting lineup Saturday.

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt (ankle) and OF Hunter Pence (hamstring) remain out of the starting lineup Friday, May 27. C Trevor Brown is starting at first base and hitting eighth, while OF Jarrett Parker is in right field and batting seventh against Colorado Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood.
Fantasy Tip: Both Belt and Pence are considered day-to-day and could return to the lineup as soon as tomorrow. Get them both back into starting lineups everywhere when they're ready. The young Parker has serious power upside (23 homers last year in minors), so he's worth a cheap flier in DFS. Brown has surprised with four home runs in 56 at-bats as the backup catcher. His upside is limited low in the order, but you can do worse as a low-end catcher to save salary cap space tonight.

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt (ankle) could return to play against the Colorado Rockies Friday, May 27, after X-rays on his mild left ankle sprain came back negative. "It didn't look great," Belt told reporters. "But I feel like unless something happens (on Thursday) and I wake up and it's swollen, I feel like I'll be able to play Friday."
Fantasy Tip: The Giants are off on Thursday, so Belt may not wind up missing any games at all. His owners may have dodged a bullet, as Belt has been contributing nice numbers (.276-4-22) as a solid starting fantasy first baseman in all leagues. Check back Friday to make sure he's back in there before putting him back into your starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Peavy was 1-5 with an 8.21 ERA in nine games entering play Wednesday, so this was easily one of his best outings of 2016. Avoid using him in DFS for now so that Peavy can prove that this performance wasn't a fluke.

Fantasy Tip: Belt owners can collectively breathe a sigh of relief after that news. Be prepared to keep him out for a few days at least, but this doesn't look like it'll put him on the DL. Belt is a fine starting first baseman in all fantasy leagues and could threaten to hit 20 home runs for the first time in his career in 2016.
Wed, 25 May 2016 15:23:08 -0700
Fantasy Tip: This is concerning news for Belt owners, as the first baseman was off to a fine start with a .281/.411/.451 slash line with four home runs and 22 RBI. His high rate of line drives makes him a good bet to continue hitting for a high average, and he could top 20 home runs for the first time if he stays healthy all year. Check back for updates.

San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence (hamstring) remains out of the starting lineup Wednesday, May 25. OF Gregor Blanco is starting in right field again and is batting seventh against San Diego Padres SP James Shields.
Fantasy Tip: Blanco doesn't have much power and is limited fantasy-wise hitting lower in the order, but he does have a .353 career average with four RBI in 19 career plate appearances against Shields. Consider Blanco a low-end sleeper pick in DFS.

Fantasy Tip: Brown is hitting a mediocre .250, but he does have four home runs and 10 RBI in 52 at-bats. He has some pop as a low-end catching candidate in daily leagues.

San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija pushed his May record to 4-1 with a win over the San Diego Padres on Tuesday, May 24. Samardzija allowed one run in 6 2/3 innings, making it the fourth time this month he has yielded a single run in a start.
Fantasy Tip: Coming off a tough season with the White Sox, Samardzija suddenly looks like a top-of-the-rotation workhorse for the Giants. His strikeout numbers are coming along as well, as he has now struck out at least a hitter per inning in five of his last six starts. It's looking like a potential breakout year for Samardzija.

San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence (hamstring) isn't hitting at all Tuesday, May 24, and he plans to let his hamstring heal. Pence thinks he can return to the lineup Friday, May 27, but he won't say for sure.
Fantasy Tip: Pence had a pinch-hit appearance in the ninth inning Monday night and had the game-winning hit, so his injury isn't too serious. But he and the Giants don't want to make it worse, so he might be out until Friday. Plan accordingly. In the meantime, Jarrett Parker and Gregor Blanco should see starts in the outfield with Angel Pagan on the DL. Both players can return decent value in daily games, with Parker having more of a power stroke. Blanco becomes and option for depth in deep mixed and NL-only leagues with Pagan hurt.

Fantasy Tip: The Shark has gone at least 7 2/3 innings in all four of his starts this month, including going eight strong three times. He has struck out eight in three of his four starts. Facing the Padres for the second time in a week, Samardzija is a strong play everywhere.
Tue, 24 May 2016 15:55:59 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Posey continues to prove he's an elite fantasy backstop and perhaps the top option at the position with a .263/.324/.421 line with five home runs and 17 RBI. He's always a fine choice as your backstop in daily games if you're willing to spend big, and he's a must-start in all traditional leagues.

San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence (hamstring) remains out of the starting lineup Tuesday, May 24. OF Gregor Blanco is starting in right field and is hitting eighth against San Diego Padres SP Andrew Cashner.
Fantasy Tip: Blanco is hitting only .221 on the season but is an underrated player against right-handed pitchers. His lineup spot is a tough one for daily considerations, but he could still return decent value as a sleeper against a struggling pitcher coming off an injury. Blanco's fantasy value in seasonal leagues sees a boost in the short term with Angel Pagan landing on the DL Tuesday.

San Francisco Giants OF Angel Pagan (hamstring) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, May 24, with a left hamstring strain. OF Jarrett Parker was recalled from Class AAA Sacramento in a corresponding roster move.
Fantasy Tip: Pagan missed 11 games earlier this season with the same injury, and Pagan's hamstring could be balky enough to cause him issues through the rest of the year. For now, go ahead and clear a roster spot because Pagan's numbers don't merit keeping him around until his bat heats up. OF Gregor Blanco will likely benefit the most from Pagan's injury status.

San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija discovered late last September that he had been tipping his pitches with the Chicago White Sox based on the time he stayed set in the stretch. "I'm over fighting myself, I'm going to go with what feels natural," Samardzija recalled thinking. "Sometimes, you've got to hit the wall to realize that you've got to let go a little bit."
Fantasy Tip: The Shark's last two stellar outings with Chicago paved the way for his turnaround with the Giants in 2016. He's currently sporting a 6-2 record, 2.66 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 7.7 strikeouts per nine innings. Samardzija has been an incredible value so far for those that took the chance on him as their third or fourth starter.
