Fantasy Tip: Trumbo's numbers didn't suffer much in Safeco Field last season as he hit .264-12-41 at home and .259-10-23 on the road. He would have some upside if he left the spacious confines, though and projects as a third or fourth outfielder in fantasy.

Seattle Mariners C Mike Zunino has company behind the plate, as the team signed C Chris Iannetta (Angels). General manager Jerry Dipoto said Iannetta was brought in to serve as the team's primary catcher.
Fantasy Tip: Zunino's future is unclear, as it is uncertain if he will be the team's backup, if he will be used as the designated hitter, learn a new position or be traded to another organization. Right now, his fantasy outlook is certainly in the air.

Fantasy Tip: Iannetta is expected to be the starting catcher with Mike Zunino serving as his backup. Iannetta knows the American League West well since he is coming over from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, a team Dipoto previously served as general manager.

Seattle Mariners 2B Robinson Cano and his representative refuted a report the player is unhappy in Seattle. General manager Jerry Dipoto said Monday, Nov. 23, that Cano's agent called him and said that the comments weren't from Robinson.
Fantasy Tip: Winning cures everything, and if Cano really is unhappy, perhaps that will solve things. He posted 21 homers in 2015, which was nice, but he also struck out a career-high 107 times while his average tumbled to .287, lowest since 2008. Cano's 79 RBI were also his lowest since 2008.

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton (finger) throw a seven-inning simulated game Monday, Nov. 23, general manager Jerry Dipoto said. He is expected to repeat that one more time to building his innings count.
Fantasy Tip: Paxton is making his way back from a finger issue which shut him down in the final month. He should be fine well in time for spring training.

Fantasy Tip: Iannetta had his worst season as a pro in 2015 with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, hitting only .188 (51-for-272) with 10 home runs and 34 RBI. While there's a good chance he'll hit over .200 next year with double-digit home runs, Iannetta's fantasy value remains limited to two-catcher leagues, especially with the move to pitcher-friendly Safeco Field. The signing also shows how much Seattle has soured on Mike Zunino.

Fantasy Tip: Iannetta hit 10 home runs last season in just 317 plate appearances, but his .188 batting average is too much of an anchor to roster in the majority of seasonal leagues. At best, Iannetta is a low-end catcher in AL-only, cavernous mixed and two-catcher formats heading into the 2016 season.

Fantasy Tip: He was once one of the top prospects in all of baseball, but Hultzen missed most of the last three years due to a shoulder injury. He's still only 25. Keep tabs on him in case the lefty can make it back.

Seattle Mariners OF Leonys Martin is likely to enter next season as the starting center fielder. He played in just 95 games last year for the Texas Rangers after breaking a bone in his right hand, but he still managed to record 13 outfield assists.
Fantasy Tip: Martin had a down year for Texas, hitting only .219 (63-for-288) with five home runs and 25 RBI. He's primarily defense first, but he did manage to steal 30-plus bases in both 2013 and 2014, and he hasn't lost any speed. Target him as a late-round sleeper source of thefts in 2016 in fantasy drafts.

The Seattle Mariners acquired OF Leonys Martin from the Texas Rangers in exchange for RP Tom Wilhelmsen Monday, Nov. 16, according to sources. There are expected to be other players involved in the deal.
Fantasy Tip: After combining for 67 stolen bases during the 2013 and 2014 seasons, Martin flamed out in 2015 and played just 98 games. He returned a .579 OPS and was a huge fantasy bust after showing promising the previous two years. A relocation could help his fantasy stock, and he projects as an endgame source of speed for drafts this spring.

Fantasy Tip: Over the past two seasons, Iwakuma has posted a 3.53 ERA, a 3.45 FIP, a 1.06 WHIP and a 7.7 K/9 through 308 2/3 innings. And while seasonal owners should count on him continuing his downward trend since his career-best 2013 season, Iwakuma projects to provide nice value in the later rounds of drafts this spring.

Fantasy Tip: The 22-year-old switch-hitter batted .283 with two home runs and 17 RBIs in 57 games during his rookie season and has decent speed. He could be a middle infield option for fantasy teams in AL-only and deep mixed leagues next season.
Thu, 12 Nov 2015 10:27:22 -0800
Fantasy Tip: The Mariners are really trying to fortify their bullpen for 2016, and they may not be done adding. It's unclear who would be the favorite to close with Tom Wilhelmsen and Carson Smith currently the top candidates. Benoit would likely fill more of an eighth-inning setup role like he did with San Diego, but he could fall into some closing opportunities if injuries strike.
Wed, 11 Nov 2015 17:06:46 -0800
Fantasy Tip: Iannetta isn't much of an offensive upgrade over the backstops Seattle used last season and it's uncertain if he would immediately step into a starting role. He hit .188 with 10 home runs and 34 RBIs in 272 at-bats last season and should only be considered as a backup option in single-universe fantasy leagues.
Wed, 11 Nov 2015 13:40:53 -0800
Fantasy Tip: Gutierrez hit 15 home runs and drove in 35 runs with a .974 OPS over just 189 plate appearances last season, and he posted an OPS above .970 against both lefties and right-handed hurlers. Still, career-best ratios at age 32 should be cause for pause before jacking the veteran up your rankings for the 2016 season. At best, he is a low-end outfielder in deep mixed leagues.
