Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton suggested his mechanics were off and that he was "too rotational" after struggling in his second straight start Sunday, April 19. He allowed seven runs and nine hits in just 2 2/3 innings against the Texas Rangers. However, manager Lloyd McClendon refused to blame poor mechanics on Paxton's outing.
Fantasy Tip: Paxton ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA and 1.47 WHIP and 12 strikeouts in 15 innings in his two 2015 starts. You'll want to avoid him at FantasyScore until he gets things turned around.

Seattle Mariners OF Nelson Cruz was named the American League Player of the Week after hitting six home runs and knocking in 10 runs in six games. Cruz ended the week with two home runs and five RBI Sunday, April 19. Cruz was 12-for-24 overall in the week.
Fantasy Tip: Cruz ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) is en fuego and can't be ignored at FantasyScore right now while he's swinging a hot stick. He'll yet again be a strong start in daily games tonight against the Houston Astros and Asher Wojciechowski.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) currently leads the majors with eight homers, and all eight have come in his last eight games. For the price, he is a no-brainer addition to FantasyScore lineups while he is on his power binge.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson Cruz ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) will start in right field and Justin Ruggiano ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) will start in left field because Seattle is facing a left-handed pitcher. Cruz already has six home runs this season and is a bargain on FantasyScore, while Ruggiano has struggled at the plate during the first two weeks of the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: The light-hitting Mike Zunino ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) is receiving his first day off this season. Sucre ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is the least expensive catching option available on FantasyScore and is attractive to owners who would prefer to sink their cap money into other positions.

Fantasy Tip: Bloomquist ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is filling in for Brad Miller ($2,400, 4.8% of cap), who is being given the day off. FantasyScore owners should be able to find better options for a comparable price.

Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez (quadriceps, ankle) struck out 12 batters through seven innings to win his second game of the season over the Texas Rangers Saturday, April 18. Hernandez allowed a single earned run on two hits and two walks.
Fantasy Tip: Hernandez ($9,300, 18.6% of cap) eased any injury concern for his seasonal owners, and those who spent up for him in daily contests were rewarded handsomely. FantasyScore players should continue to view King Felix as a top-tier starter, and against inferior lineups, he has contest-winning upside. He proved it Saturday.

Fantasy Tip: Nelly ($4,100, 8.2% of your cap) can carry a fantasy team during these streaks and is at a dirt-cheap price on FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: After leading the league in homers in 2014, Cruz ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) has picked up where he's left off, homering in his last five games, with six homers overall. Even better news is he's done it all in pitcher-friendly parks, even though he's yet to homer in Seattle. Ride the streak while it lasts at FantasyScore.

Seattle Mariners RP Fernando Rodney has had a couple of bad outings of late, including a blown save and loss against the Los Angeles Dodgers Tuesday, April 14, but manager Lloyd McClendon plans to ride out the storm with Rodney. Last year, Rodney blew just three saves in 51 attempts, but he also allowed at least one runner in 47 of 69 outings, including 34 of his 51 save chances. If McClendon chooses to go in another direction, RPs Danny Farquhar and Tom Wilhelmsen (on the disabled list) have closing experience, and RP Carson Smith has closer's stuff.
Fantasy Tip: Rodney owners should be a bit worried by his early-season struggles, especially at age 38. Rodney likely has somewhat of a long leash because of his 2014 season in Seattle, but saves poachers should be looking at Yoervis Medina and Farquhar in case Rodney continues to stumble. Smith is an intriguing bullpen arm, but he might be too far down the pecking order to matter.

Fantasy Tip: The Athletics got to Hernandez ($9,300, 18.6% of cap) in his last outing, but he remains a top-tier starting pitcher for daily contests. The only concern is whether you can fill out a competitive lineup with so much cap space allotted to King Felix. Typically, there are plenty of hitter discounts to enable spending up for top arms, though.

Seattle Mariners RP Fernando Rodney suffered his first blown save since July 20 of last year in a loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers Tuesday, April 14. It was his second straight rough outing after he gave up four runs in a non-save situation Sunday, April 12. Rodney said his velocity is "fine," but his location has not been sharp. "It's only eight games," Rodney said. "I'm going to prepare myself for tomorrow and try to be ready, because I know I've got my stuff."
Fantasy Tip: Rodney owners have to take the good with the bad. It's early in the season, too, so those that own him shouldn't be all that worried in early April. The good news is that he has plenty of job security in Seattle as the ninth-inning fireman.

Seattle Mariners 1B Logan Morrison is not in the starting lineup against Los Angeles Dodgers SP David Huff Tuesday, April 14. SS Willie Bloomquist is starting at first base and hitting eighth in the lineup.
Fantasy Tip: Morrison is sitting tonight while the team faces a lefty. Bloomquist ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is a defensive specialist and should be ignored in FantasyScore contests.

Seattle Mariners OF Rickie Weeks is starting in left field and hitting leadoff against Los Angeles Dodgers left-handed SP David Huff Tuesday, April 14. Both OFs Dustin Ackley and Seth Smith will start on the bench.
Fantasy Tip: Weeks ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is involved in a platoon situation in the outfield for the M's. He's a career .261 hitter against lefties, too, and he clubbed seven of his eight home runs in 2014 off southpaws. That'll make him a cost-effective, sleeper pick at FantasyScore on games that he's playing, and a matchup against Huff Tuesday could work in his favor.

Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez (quadriceps, ankle) is expected to be good to go for his start Saturday, April 18, according to manager Lloyd McClendon. However, Seattle will wait to make a decision until after they see him throw Wednesday, April 15.
Fantasy Tip: If Hernandez ($9,300, 18.6% of cap) is able to make his start Saturday against the Texas Rangers, he should be a strong play at FantasyScore against a Texas team that is already dealing with several injuries and is a weaker offensive opponent.
