Mariners | Jesus Sucre playing Saturday

Sat, 04 Jul 2015 11:06:50 -0700

Seattle Mariners C Jesus Sucre will bat ninth against Oakland Athletics SP Kendall Graveman Saturday, July 4.

Fantasy Tip: C Mike Zunino ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) is receiving a scheduled day off. Sucre ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has one hit in 23 at-bats this season and is not worthy of FantasyScore consideration.

Mariners | Robinson Cano continues resurgence

Sat, 04 Jul 2015 05:31:00 -0700

Seattle Mariners 2B Robinson Cano went 3-for-5 with a run and a double during the Mariners 9-3 win over the Oakland Athletics Friday, July 3.

Fantasy Tip: Cano ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) now sports a .302/.318/.524 slash line over his past 16 games with eight runs, three home runs and eight RBI. While a far cry from the production and expectations that come with being a high draft pick this spring, Cano is starting to pull it together. FantasyScore players will want to note his salary hasn't caught up with his recent play, and seasonal owners will want to note Cano has always been a better second-half player.

Mariners | Willie Bloomquist designated

Fri, 03 Jul 2015 04:40:21 -0700

Seattle Mariners SS Willie Bloomquist was designated for assignment on Thursday, July 2. Bloomquist hit just .159 in 35 games this season.

Fantasy Tip: Bloomquist ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) saw his main value come as a utility player. Since he played at first, second, third, shortstop and the outfield, he displayed versatility. Too bad the batting average didn't match his fielding skills. Unplug him from your FantasyScore options, not that he was there anyway.

Mariners | Robinson Cano struggling against lefties

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 19:06:45 -0700

Seattle Mariners 2B Robinson Cano is hitting .218 with .517 OPS against left-handed pitchers this season compared to .276 in the previous three seasons.

Fantasy Tip: Cano ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has been having a down year overall, and he really shouldn't even be considered at FantasyScore right now when a lefty is on the hill.

Mariners | Brad Miller still the SS

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 16:45:16 -0700

Seattle Mariners SS Brad Miller will remain as the team's primary shortstop despite the call-up of SS Chris Taylor from the minors Thursday, July 2.

Fantasy Tip: Miller ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) remains a low-end shortstop play on FantasyScore, but there's plenty to value to be had if he's facing the right right-handed pitcher. Miller has all seven of his dingers and an .821 OPS against righties in 2015.

Mariners | Mark Trumbo hitting sixth

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 15:49:55 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Mark Trumbo will start in right field and hit sixth in the order Thursday, July 2, against the Oakland Athletics.

Fantasy Tip: Trumbo ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is just 1-for-23 in his last six games, but his upside comes against lefties. Trumbo can be used in GPP tournaments, as he has five home runs in just 67 plate appearances against southpaws this season.

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 15:44:04 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Austin Jackson is back in the leadoff spot Thursday, July 2, against the Oakland Athletics and LHP Scott Kazmir. 1B Logan Morrison will hit seventh in the order.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker continues dominance

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 16:11:42 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker struck out seven batters over six scoreless innings while allowing just one hit during the Mariners' 7-0 win over the San Diego Padres Wednesday, July 1.

Fantasy Tip: Walker ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) entered the start with a 5-1 record, a 1.91 ERA and 44 strikeouts through 42 1/3 innings over his previous six outings. He should be owned and started with confidence in all seasonal leagues, and FantasyScore players have an excellent option on their hands considering Walker's reasonable cap hit.

Mariners | Mark Trumbo out again

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 10:38:21 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Mark Trumbo is out of the lineup against with no designated hitter in play against San Diego Padres SP James Shields Wednesday, July 1. OF Franklin Gutierrez is starting in left field and hitting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Gutierrez ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) is a very weak play today on FantasyScore against Shields, who is fanning 10.7 hitters per nine innings in 2015. Be skeptical of using Trumbo this week while his team plays in a National League park without the DH.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker has been nasty

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 09:47:46 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker has won four straight starts and is 5-1 with a 1.91 ERA in his last six outings. Walker is 6-6 on the season with a 4.64 ERA.

Fantasy Tip: Walker ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) is almost a no-brainer play against the San Diego Padres Wednesday afternoon. The Padres are second in baseball with 512 strikeouts against right-handed pitchers, and Walker is fanning 8.8 hitters per nine innings this season. It also helps that the game is being played at pitcher-friendly Petco Park.

Mariners | Felix Hernandez is fine

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 09:43:21 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez (cramps) is fine after leaving his last start after six innings because of heat exhaustion and cramps.

Fantasy Tip: King Felix ($9,200, 18.4% of cap) had a couple of very uncharacteristic starts in the month of June, allowing seven and eight earned runs in two separate starts. He should be just fine for his next outing, and he'll probably be worth paying up for on FantasyScore yet again.

Mariners | Mike Montgomery amazing again

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 00:03:13 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Mike Montgomery threw a one-hit shutout against the San Diego Padres Tuesday, June 30. He allowed four walks and struck out seven in the complete-game win.

Fantasy Tip: Montgomery ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) is 3-2 with a 1.62 ERA and 0.90 WHIP in his first six starts and should be owned universally. He's a great option for the price on FantasyScore.

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 17:52:53 -0700

Seattle Mariners 3B Kyle Seager will hit third in the order Tuesday, June 30, against the San Diego Padres and RHP Ian Kennedy.

Fantasy Tip: Seager ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) homered Sunday, and he's a career .272 hitter against righties. FantasyScore owners can consider Seager for GPP tournaments.

Mariners | Mark Trumbo sitting

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 17:40:51 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Mark Trumbo comes out of the lineup Tuesday, June 30, against the San Diego Padres. With the Mariners playing in a National League park they lose their designated hitter, so OF Nelson Cruz will start in right field against RHP Ian Kennedy.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) is 4-for-12 with three doubles in his last three games. While he doesn't fare quite as well against righties, Cruz is still worth a look on FantasyScore.

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 17:40:06 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Austin Jackson has been moved down to sixth in the order Tuesday, June 30, against the San Diego Padres and RHP Ian Kennedy.

Fantasy Tip: Jackson ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) went 5-for-12 in his last three games, but he is hitting just .244 for the season against right-handed pitchers. FantasyScore owners can leave Jackson alone.
